CBC's Stephanie Cram leads off our coverage
from outside of the hospital in Wainwright.
Stephanie, I was following along as you
were making your way towards Wainwright.
You saw emergency vehicles one after
another after another passing you by.
What information are you getting about the incident?
Yeah, so far we still don't know too much information,
but right now I'm standing outside of the hospital.
We arrived here and there are several ambulances.
I've counted 12 now they all have their lights
on and behind my camera there's also actually an
ambulance bus so that just speaks to the magnitude
of how big this situation is impacting the
community here and like you said on our way
into Wainwright from Edmonton we saw at least five
ambulances drive by with their lights on speeding down the highway
so I'm unsure if those are tied
to this incident but there's likely a good chance
that they might be now the base is not too far
from where we are. I looked it up.
It's about a 10 minute drive from the hospital. We could not
see anything from the highway with regards to the base.
Couldn't see any lights or anything coming
from that direction.
And we're being hit with really cold, windy weather right now. And we
heard that that added to the situation.
It amplified the situation. Right now it's seven
degrees but it feels more like three degrees
with winds up to 26 kilometers an hour our camera is
camera guy is having a hard time
with our light it's it's fallen down a few times so it's it's
very windy but right now we don't have a ton
of information it's unclear if we're going to be
getting more information from officers here
or our our medical services here in Wainwright but
we'll be here all night to see what they're they're willing
to tell us you should make sure
to stay safe. I know that those winds can be quite dangerous
when you're dealing with electrical
equipment like the ones that our camera crews use.
Stephanie, there is so much conjecture,
so many guesses happening, especially on social media.
One thing I heard is that they were putting
injured people in a nearby school that I guess
is next to that hospital in front of which you're
standing. Anything like that that you were able to confirm or deny?
Yeah, we haven't been able to
confirm we just arrived moments ago
so we're going to spend some time to figure out if that's
in fact true. We have heard accounts that that there's
an overflow situation into the school
that many of the patients are being shipped to the school
which is like you said nearby
the hospital but we'll just have to wait
and see what more we can find out. Thank you so much for
that. Stephanie stay safe
and I know you'll be joining us later as more information becomes
known. That's CBC's Stephanie Cram on the scene in Wainwright.
