Episode of What Happens With Sid.
Now I am joined by a dynamic duo that are doing great things in
the book community. Twins! And you guys know how much I love twins.
Haley and Heather, how are you
ladies? We are great. How are you? Great.
So thank you for taking the time to come on and chat with
me and fellow book lovers out there.
So before we kind of take a look at a couple of your favorite
books, because you guys read a lot,
tell us a little bit about the two of you, where you're
from and what really kind of motivated you guys
to be like hey we like to read books let's do all
of our content in front of the camera yeah well we're
from Ohio um and one night Hayley used to
come over to my house and just talk about books
and we'd have a glass of wine and one night we
had a couple glasses of wine
and decided it's gonna be a good time to film our first TikTok
and post it our husbands had been telling us to do it for forever
so we've just been obsessed with
reading and there's nothing better than having like
a good glass of wine and sitting down with
the book after like a long day
so yeah we just thought hey why not yeah share with everyone our
thoughts yeah and then it's nice to have a built-in best friend
and right buddy so yeah
I know we got lucky yeah yeah
so when it comes to books do you guys read the same one at the
same time and kind of dissect it
and then how do you guys go about if you disagree when it comes to
a book we we usually don't read the same book
at the same time honestly if like i read a book and
i didn't like it that much probably Hayley's not gonna read it
and vice versa just because we do
normally like the same thing yeah
um we don't normally disagree on a lot of sometimes very
rarely yeah we do like to read the same book sometimes together
and see if we have the same
rating like we will just set up
the camera film it like without telling each other how we felt
about it and then we'll like count to three
and say our rating and see if it's similar
and a lot of times it's it's exactly
the same yeah yeah now what is like if you could only
pick one what would you say is like
your number one go-to genre oh we're we are such seasonal
mood readers so like right now it's romancey
for me thrillers for me right now for sure
so it just depends like
in the summertime it's fluffy romances yeah for sure it's
romance-y for me but yeah yeah in fall i i there's nothing like
a good thriller yeah that's true like
i love thriller horror year round like i'm a spooky soul through
and through but then it's
like okay occasionally i'll try to get
into you know like the seasonal romance love stories and
then it's kind of like okay i'm tired
of the fluff i want like the i want to go back
are probably our one that we read like all year round the most the most
because i you just can't
go wrong with a good thriller no you can't
and it makes you think i feel like it makes you play
detective so like you're always thinking
and i just feel like it triggers something in your brain
that just makes you smarter because you're using
different parts trying to figure out who the
person is and it's plot twist after plot twist
you can never go wrong right yes you really can
although nine times out of ten i'm completely wrong yeah i know
so and so a couple of your
favorite books like i said you guys read a lot one
of them was dagger mouth which i've been like
i have it on my table and i'm like i'm going back
and forth because like i said i'm a mood reader so
I started a little bit of it
and I essentially get the feel of it as like Hunger Games a little bit
you know where how they have like everything kind of broken off
so tell us a little bit about what
you both loved about this story
so this one is true enemies to lovers um it follows a dagger
mouth who is hired to go kill the executioner
who is the president's son and when she is attempting
to do that she gets captured
and the president comes up with this idea to have them be married
and kind of join forces or look like they're joining forces
but the whole time they're trying
to like kill each other yeah um so it really
is like a true enemies lovers and I the feeling I
got when I read that book was the same
as when I read Fourth Wing you just like forget you're
reading because you're so immersed in the story yeah
and that's when I know it's like an amazing
book because I'm like oh my god I just flew through
that I didn't even like realize I was
reading you know plus there's a very big twist at the end yes
so if you have not read that one yet
look if you haven't finished it you got to finish it
so good yeah yeah and I like like I
said I started it and I love like how it
was action from like the very beginning because
usually when it comes to a book I'll give it like maybe
a good three to five chapters and if I'm not
feeling it I'm just gonna DNF it
because I don't want to be irritated and then I feel like if you
keep reading and you don't like it that's how you kind
fall out of the love for reading because
you're forcing yourself to read
so I will look forward to that plot twist when I get around
to read that one and then speaking of thrillers you guys
also liked A Guest Again which is
essentially around like the 10th anniversary
of like a young girl's disappearance so tell us a
little bit about what's in the story and even
though you guys liked it what would you say is
a pro and a con. Oh well, Charlie Donlehy is one
of our favorite thriller authors so it's hard
to say goodbye. Um, we've really been, I've been reading him for forever
and then I introduced
Hayley to him, but um, I think one of the reasons
that we like his books a lot and I that would
include Guess Again is because like they kind
of have like a true crime feel to it where like you
like all of these things could be happening like it
so it's like almost more scary because that
could be real life real life yeah
and that's kind of why we really like his because like they're
scary in that aspect of like oh my gosh
this could actually happen. Um, a con? What's a con? Well
the only thing the ending was a little bit like oh
my god now he left us with that, like it makes you
like there should have been a little bit more after
that you just want more. Maybe he could
come up with like a sequel after. Yeah, I think
that's why he ended that way so that maybe in
the future he could, but you are like wanting more like
to find out where do they go from here
um afterwards, so that's probably the only
con, but that book was one of our favorite thrillers, yeah
one of the only thrillers we've given five stars
too because we just loved everything, yeah. Now with
this book Guess Again, would you guys, do you guys think
that it could be like turn into an adaptation
whether like a movie or a TV show? Yes, I feel like
a lot of his could be, yeah, um for sure because
they're just so like, like true crime type stuff, yeah
and yeah, I could see it for sure being a good
which I would definitely watch that. Yeah.
I mean, you know, maybe Apple TV or, you know,
Netflix, you know, something will pick it up.
And so you guys also liked The Calamity Club
by Catherine Steadman. I absolutely loved her.
I had like a total fan moment when I had her on
the show, like a couple months ago.
And I've loved her ever since The Help, you know, and it's just
like her writing, her storyline, you know,
how she takes like real life examples and turn into a
story. And, you know, like the topics
that she touched on in this story, especially with it
taking you know place down south and like women's rights
and body and it's very similar to what a
lot of us are facing nowadays
so tell us a little bit about what drew you both to this story i think
it's first it was because we love The Help
so much yeah um and also we are very much influenced by
like book talk and stuff so people were reading it
and saying how great it was and then i think i i
think i actually we listened to it the audiobook
the audiobook was phenomenal um and i told Hayley
she had to read it because i gave it i i
immediately wanted to reread it as soon as i
was finished it's just the characters like fall
in love with each one of those characters and
then you miss them when when you're done
when they're gone you're like these are my friends
where did they go i i miss them yeah
um she just really makes you fall in love with each and every
character in that book yeah
and i think that's always a testament to the author whenever like
the book is over and then you just kind of sit there
and like wait a minute like i've been
spending the last couple days hours with these people even
though they're you know not real
and it's like you kind of get lost
in that universe where it's like crap now i gotta kind
of venture off into something else
and kind of forget about it it's hard to move on after a good
book like that i've literally wanted to go like reread
that so many times we have so many books
on our TBR i'm like you don't need to reread that already you know
but i wanted to you know and then
you guys also like atmosphere
which is kind of it takes place between like different times and i've
seen it all over Bookstagram all over BookTok now yeah
with this story what would you say is
maybe a lesson both of you have learned out
of this hmm okay a lesson well well i think it was
at a time where like females weren't doing like going to space
and stuff like that so these these
women astronauts were kind of like the not the norm yeah
so it was kind of proving that like
women can do anything and even if you know you're judged along
the way just push through and you can
do anything and I mean
then be so like groundbreaking you know yeah um yeah I also think like
follow your heart because it's like about two women falling in love
and um it's so beautiful
oh I was I was listening to it on a plane ride home
and I was sobbing on the plane listening to
it I could not even hold it in it was so good yeah yeah
and I love anytime like those books
pull those emotions like there's sometimes I'm
reading thrillers and there's a plot twist and
i literally sit up in the middle of my bed
and act like i'm talking to an imaginary person like
did that actually happen or you know like i'm not emotional
so it's like when i get teary i'm like
okay let's just reel it in that's
when you know it's a good book yeah it brings those emotions
out that's so true exactly and so Hayley
and Heather before i let you both go is there anything
else that you would like to say
to fellow book lovers out there especially with Bookstagram
and book talk being so huge right now i like
just people can read what they want to read yeah
there's no need to like if you didn't like a book
that's fine if someone else loves it that's fine
too everyone has their own opinions it's reading is subjective
and that's why it's so fun yeah
everyone can like so many different things
so um yeah we just love it because honestly we've met
so many cool people through it
so it's been fun to talk with everyone about books and that we one
thing that we all love yeah well thank you both
for what you're doing in the book community by
keeping us informed and constantly adding to our TBRs
with your recommendations and reviews and
thank you for taking the time to come and chat with me
and fellow book lovers we greatly appreciate it
yeah thank you so much
