Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe video documents the exploration of an abandoned rectory in Montreal's Quartier Saint-Paul, situated next to a historic church that was recently destroyed by a massive five-alarm fire. The footage blends a first-person walkthrough of the decaying residence with a historical overview of the parish's resilience and eventual loss.
What's up guys? Okay, take a look behind me here
and what you're looking at here
is what's remaining of a very,
very old abandoned church that burned down a bunch of fires,
but actually recently it completely collapsed after
a massive fire. So as you can see,
the roof is now gone. It's a complete disaster inside.
But where we are now guys, we're in a
residence that's attached to the church.
So we're going to go and explore this part. So let's go
guys turn around all right here we go
so we're kind of coming through the church and now very
old and decayed lots of peeling paint lots
of plaster everywhere paperwork and stuff that a
super cool shot right here this
double corridor nice and wide
we've got a little organ so as i
like to do i don't know what this building would be called
because as you know i don't do church
and religion but you guys do so what would
this building be called if it's a residence
that's attached to a huge church what would this be called guys
because i don't know nothing
isn't this nice though it's got offices it's got lots
of different rooms it's got bedrooms
huh we got some
leaks going
on here guys
lots of leaks
it's pretty cool a
lot of old furniture
in here too
for furniture oh

staircase here
go up there in
a minute tapes
and Christmas
stuff more
blankets
Metamucil
garden
cocktail
Teriyaki
peppercorn oh
there's a hole
in the floor
right there
Careful
it stinks
back here
I haven't been back here yet there's a lot
of bathrooms in this building there's another look
outside to the church
so we're not going to go
that way because there's
a big hole in the floor
right there but there's a super cool
looking old bathroom right there
so here's one of the many
bedrooms we have lots
of nice natural light
the bedrooms up
here guys check out
this little sink
right here oh the
library look at all
the books guys wow
whoa encyclopedias
maybe what are all
these it's all in French guys selection du livre well
these are Reader's Digest selections okay
the closet room
number five what's
that called
a Murphy bed i
think it's called
a Murphy bed
And you've got the drawers underneath.
I think we were already in here.
Yeah.
So you have rooms with a sink, but you don't have a toilet.
But you have a shared bathroom, such as this one right here.
But you don't have a sink in the bathroom.
Okay?
In Montreal's Quartier Saint-Paul,
the church that anchored
this neighborhood
for 150 years is gone.
All that remains is the building beside it, the rectory.
The first church went up here in 1876,
just after the village was founded,
and a stone rectory was built right next to it.
In 1899, lightning destroyed the church.
The parish rebuilt, and in 1910 and 1911,
it raised the church most people remember,
designed by architect Joseph-Arthur Godin,
with interior work by the artist Guido Nincheri.
Through all of it, the rectory was the parish's nerve center.
This was home to the priests.
It was the office where couples came to plan their weddings,
where families arranged baptisms
and funerals, and where generations of births,
marriages, and deaths were written into the parish
registers. Sunday collections were counted here.
The weekly bulletin went out from here. If the
church was the heart of Côte Saint-Paul,
the rectory was where its life was recorded. Then,
at 1:40 in the morning on February 23rd, 2026,
fire broke out in the church. More than 150
firefighters battled a five-alarm blaze.
By dawn, the roof had collapsed and the bell towers were
gone. Only fragments of the facade will be saved.
Now the rectory stands alone
and abandoned. The priests are gone
and the offices are empty. The church it
served is a ruin next door.
It's the last witness to a parish that was struck by
lightning, rebuilt, rebuilt again, and finally lost to fire.
Alright guys, we're gonna put a pin in this one.
This is a short little video
walkthrough. Pretty cool spot.
Hope you guys have liked this one. And I'm here
with my friends Frank, X-Photography and Sol Censeer,
and some other friends who
actually aren't explorers they're just joining along
so uh that's it guys i gotta go see you
