With stories that matter to you, this is Fox 6 Wake Up News.
Now at 8.01, he was a part
of the last Milwaukee team to win the World Series.
Now, he's hopeful this team will be able to pull it off again.
Okay, so we've got crows, we've got cats with ideas,
we've got a crow eating a Cheeto.
We have a variety of things here, and with Gallery Night MKE tonight,
make sure you stop by, get all the great details,
and we're in a remodeled space right now.
It's going to be really exciting. I can't wait
to show you everything that goes into this special event coming up.
All right. Good morning. Welcome to movie state of mind.
You're really immersed in the art there.
I know. We love to see it.
Art there, art in the sky, as we can see.
Honestly, this is a postcard as we're waking up.
I mean, it's gorgeous, right? I just need
the temperature up a little bit.
I know. It's a little chilly.
I did keep my windows open last night, and I thought...
Me too. Big mistake.
Yeah. So can you do a little coverage?
But you know, sometimes that's nice, though.
You get the nice blanket on you.
You feel a little cozy.
And we are still going to have some
of the cooler temperatures this morning, Bria.
But I will say we'll probably be ditching
these long sleeves as we head later on in the week.
Oh, that's some good news.
We are going to have some good news in the temperature department.
Stay tuned for that.
We are focusing right now, though, on the cold weather headlines.
Yes, we are dealing with freeze warnings as well as frost
advisories stretching from New England all the way down to Texas.
So there's a large area of the United States being impacted
with the cold, not just us here locally, but we are going
to talk about Wisconsin because we still have frost advisories
and freeze warnings holding across our counties until 9 a.m.
So at least another hour. I will say if you're heading out, though,
I have seen a lot of frost on some car windshields, so you might need
to pull out that ice scraper for the first time of the season.
We are now at least hanging on,
not into the 20s, but the 30s everywhere.
We're 30 in Juneau, 32 West Bend,
34 Waukesha, 38 Milwaukee, and 36 in Kenosha.
So a spread of the 30s,
some of the warmer temperatures and less frost will be, of course,
near our warmer areas near the lakefront.
But it is going to be a chilly morning with temperatures
that are about 15 to almost 20 degrees colder than yesterday.
So bundle up if you're heading outside.
We'll have lots of sun today.
That, in addition to the winds, will help us get into the 50s.
By the afternoon, we're going to talk more about your weekend forecast
because there's pros and cons to both.
But overall, I'll tell you this, rain free.
That's your hint.
Something we had yesterday, we won't have today or tomorrow.
More coming up.
All right, thanks, Lisa.
Now, they are the heroes of Milwaukee,
and now they're back home getting ready for the World Series.
Last night, the Brewers arrived home
from Los Angeles after sweeping the Dodgers in the NLCS.
They now have just under a week to get rested,
get ready for Game One of the Fall Classic.
Now, they will be playing the winner of the Rays-Guardians series.
Now, we found some Brewers fans who go way back with the team.
85-year-old Terry Sheehan in Elm Grove was the visiting team's bat boy
for the 1957 team that won the World Series.
Back then, it was the Milwaukee Braves.
Sheehan shared fond memories and even showed off a bat he has under
a glass at his home signed by the entire 57 team.
He got the bat boy gig when he was 15 years old.
A friend's father just happened
to be the Braves front office executive.
He asked me when we were done playing golf, he said,
would you like to come down to County Stadium with me?
It's the last series of the year
and they're cleaning the lockers out because this is going to be it.
And I think you'd get a kick out of it.
I said, yes, I would absolutely love to do that.
So we took the streetcar down there, went down to County Stadium,
cleaned out all the lockers.
Sheehan says he thinks this current roster is great,
but nothing compares to that '57 lineup.
Still, he's confident
the Brewers will deliver another World Series win.
And let's take a look at the World Series schedule.
Game 1 and 2 are next Friday and Saturday at American Family Field.
Then the series moves to the home
of the American League champion for Games 3 and 4.
If necessary, Game 5 will be Wednesday the 28th on the road.
Then the series would shift back to Milwaukee for Game 6
and 7 on October 30th and Halloween October 31st.
All games are set to start at 7 p.m.
You can watch all of them right here on Fox 6.
In other sports news, Packers star running back Josh Jacobs may
be back in action as soon as next Sunday.
The NFL has notified the Packers that Jacobs will soon
be removed from the commissioner exempt list.
It will be after Sunday's game with the Cowboys, making him eligible
to play on October 25th against the Lions in Detroit.
Jacobs had been barred from practicing or playing in games after
an altercation with his then-girlfriend back in May.
The running back pleaded no contest to battery
and criminal damage to property.
And time now, 8:06, still to come on Wake Up.
They performed at the Milwaukee Public Museum last week
for Hispanic Heritage Month.
That's just one part of Combining Cultures Company's dance mission
to inspire unity through dance.
And we're getting a taste of winter this morning.
But Ebony and I, they'll be here in the studio
to show us how we can glide into the season with purpose.
You're watching Weather First with meteorologist Lisa Michaels.
Well, good morning, good morning.
We're waking up with lots of sunshine,
but frigid temperatures, at least compared to what we've had.
Yes, we are in the low and mid-30s, no matter where you are,
with Milwaukee being the warmest at 38.
One of our coolest that we're seeing on this graphic
is 32 in Watertown, 34 in Waukesha, and 36 in Kenosha.
So we are going to be on the cold side. You will want
to make sure you have the appropriate thicker layers this morning,
and you might need that ice scraper for the first time of the year
to get some of that off your vehicle.
It will be the coolest day today of the next six days.
We're expected to reach the low to mid-50s,
five degrees below average this time of year.
Sixties arrive back tomorrow,
and notice the gradual warming trend each and every day this week,
where we could get near 15 degrees back
above average by the end of the week.
Upper 60s, low 70s, not out of the question.
And even as we look at our long-term trend here,
October 24th through 30th.
Take a look at who's expected to have
the warmer temperatures across the United States.
It's us here in the Midwest,
so we have more warmer temps forecasted for the weeks ahead.
Again, we're going to continue to break down the forecast
a little more in depth, though, for this weekend first.
Coming up.
All right, you can hear our next guest,
a very special guest in the studio today.
Time now for Adopt-A-Pet.
Becky Glinecki from the Wisconsin Humane
Society joins us live in the studio.
Hello.
Oh, okay.
We want to know all about Rocco.
Lots of energy in the studio today.
Good morning.
This is Rocco.
Hi, friend.
He's 11 months old.
A little goofball.
Loves to play.
Had to say hi to everybody this morning on the way in.
Having the best day of his life saying hi to everybody.
He is available for adoption at our Milwaukee campus.
He is about 50 pounds, but he is neutered,
microchipped, and vaccinated and 11 months old.
11 months old.
He does not look like he's 11 months old.
No, he's pretty big for an 11-month-old.
Okay, I know we usually kind of talk about
the family's high energy here,
very loving, very friendly.
What kind of family is our buddy Rocco looking for?
If you're interested in him, you can meet with our counselors,
and they can go over more information about him.
And he loves treats.
He loves treats.
Might just need some manners classes,
but he would be a great fit for anybody's family.
I love that.
Okay, and we also want to talk about, what do we have?
We have Girl Scout Night.
Yeah.
You guys always have something going on.
We always have stuff going on at our campuses.
We do offer Girl Scout nights at our Milwaukee,
Racine, and Ozaukee campuses.
They are for anybody, even though the name is Girl Scouts.
It's open to Boy Scouts, youth groups,
anybody from the ages in kindergarten all the way through 12th grade.
During the program, it's about an hour and a half.
During that time, you get a lesson where
the kids learn what pets need to have to be safe and healthy.
They get a tour of our facility.
They also get to do a service project to help out the animals.
And then, of course, everybody's favorite part,
meeting all of our animal friends at the shelter.
You also can get an exclusive WHS patch to show that you came.
And then tickets to participate are only $15 per scout.
So it's a really fun evening for them.
A lot of the kids have a lot of fun during it.
And you can just register right on our website at wihumane.org.
All right. Thank you.
Okay, Rocco, come on.
Look in the camera.
There's your close-up over there.
He's like, absolutely not.
Okay.
All right.
Available for adoption 11 months old.
One more time here.
Rocko, which campus again?
Milwaukee.
Milwaukee campus.
What time do you guys open there?
At 10.
10 o'clock.
All right.
You can go bring Rocko home
at the Wisconsin Humane Society Milwaukee campus starting at
10 o'clock this morning.
11 months old, full of energy and so super cute.
Lisa, he's also, he's in season.
He has a little blue handkerchief on right now.
Matching you.
I love it.
Yeah.
You know, this is the time.
where maybe you're putting a little bandana on your pet.
Maybe you're also putting a jacket
on your pet if it doesn't have long fur.
But it is going to be a great day for some
of our long-haired animals to get outside.
We're taking a look at a picture from yesterday.
Rainbow here.
Steve sent this in, and it was gorgeous.
Of course, what wasn't gorgeous was some
of the showers that we did have
that really produced some heavy rain.
but we did have some beautiful viewer photos that were sent in,
so thanks for sending that in.
A different shot this morning still.
Equally as beautiful, it's plenty of sun, but we still have a frigid
and frosty start if you're heading out the door.
And the reason why our temperatures have dropped
so much is we've had a northerly wind that has become calm overnight,
but we've been really cloud-free, so both have allowed
to cooling of temperatures even in the upper 20s this morning.
Still cold across the state, but because the sun is up,
we are getting out of the 20s now and heading more so into the 30s.
We're 38 in Milwaukee, one of the warmest locations across the state,
32 in Madison and West Bend, 30 in Juneau.
And again, it is going to be very chilly compared to what we've had.
So certainly needing to wear the appropriate layers
is what you'll have to do as you step out the door.
Now you could wait several hours.
We'll still have some upper 30s and low 40s mixed in at 9 o'clock,
but we'll really start to approach much like yesterday.
Some of the low to mid 50s.
In fact, our high today could be the same as yesterday,
but the difference is the sunshine
and our winds aren't coming out of the north like yesterday.
So it is looking at changing out of the southwest.
It will feel a little warmer as we head into the afternoon.
If you have any evening plans,
you'll still want to have some sort of jacket early tonight.
We'll have low 40s, but we should be dipping potentially
into some upper 30s for our inland areas
and low 40s near the lakefront by Sunday morning.
We will get a little bit warmer tomorrow,
expected to see some low 60s out there.
And again, each and every day this week, we look to continue
that warming trend because of the shift of our winds.
So as we look at things on Sky Vision Plus,
we'll continue to talk about a plentiful amount of sunshine today.
Winds will be more noticeable changing out
of the southwest this afternoon and tonight.
And as they shift out of the southwest,
they could get a little more on the breezy side at times today.
Winds will be still out of the southwest tonight and not as calm
as what we had this evening, last evening into this morning.
So that will also prevent any kind of frost from forming
on surfaces as it looks right now as we head into Sunday morning.
Winds will continue to intensify tomorrow,
so definitely a breezy day on Sunday.
But again, warmer and still sunny, so all in all,
not looking to be a bad weekend forecast.
We will continue that warming trend,
more mid-60s by Monday and Tuesday.
Lots of sunshine, bringing
a little more cloud cover Wednesday, Thursday.
But at least we see our temperatures push back into the upper 60s
and can't rule out maybe a 70 degrees
as we head into Thursday and Friday.
All right, thanks, Nathan.
Our Glover's Dream today in Milwaukee.
It's Gallery Night in Payne,
where galleries will be opening their doors
for visitors to check out
and purchase local art right in the heart of the city.
Our Andrew Muzza is live checking out some of the art.
Andrew, what have you found this time?
Well, Brad, we are at stop number three,
second floor of the Marshall Building,
and there is plenty to show here.
And I kind of want to get right into it.
Frank, you're the gallery owner here.
We're seeing a whole lot on the walls here.
This is a remodeled space, too.
This is a beautiful space.
I mean, this is, there's a wide variety here.
Yeah, yeah.
So I've been in the Marshall Building for 14 years.
I feature mostly local artists I'm international this show I have seven
local artists that I'm featuring Wow okay let's sort of just take us
through what we're sort of checking out here obviously
a variety of artists here
and different things that we're looking
at even framing too yeah actually so I
feature mostly original paintings oils
and acrylics on canvas and I do all
in-house custom framing I generally look
for artists that are prolific and have a
long you know a career of creating art
and creating a style and working really
hard to make a cohesive group of paintings
that I can represent yeah and
you even told me 14 years you sort
of been doing this and you've seen the
evolution of the you know
this entire events throughout the years you also
mentioned that people from Chicago even drive up
to yeah actually last night I
had quite a few couples from chicago i think uh
our scene up here is getting well known more and
more because gallery nights have been going on for 40 years i believe
and i've been down here for 14
which it's been great you know and they just keep growing
and growing and i think getting
more and more well known yeah yeah as a art hub down here
in a big art community yeah and you're
just seeing just the the wide variety here
and even i feel like we're also getting closer to
to a popular section that you say,
right over here with these paintings?
Yes, yes, Jack Schnabel's work.
I think people resonate with these
because they're all, you know, Milwaukee scenes,
so they can identify with them.
And the red dots mean they're sold, right?
Yes, correct, yeah.
Had quite a few of Jack's pieces last night,
a number of pieces sold, so it was a good night.
And today we're here from 11 to three,
so if anyone likes to come down and check out the space,
you're welcome to come in and enjoy the paintings.
And yeah, it's a great building, the Marshall Building,
come in lots of people here Third Ward
for sure yeah especially in this remodeled space i'll even
ask you this too because you said you're you're
my art product you've seen the evolution not just
yeah here in the in the art scene
but also the Third Ward what does it mean now that more people
are are driving here you even called it sort of this growing art hub
but now you're seeing even
more of that you're showcasing artists
on full display here yeah yeah i would say you know the
building, and Bob
DeToro, who manages and owns this building,
he's great at supporting
all of us and keeping the building active.
And, of course, the Historic
Third Ward Association and their promotion
of everything that goes on down here.
So it's a great community, and we really enjoy
it. We really enjoy it. So if you're looking for
something to do, the Third Ward is where
to come. You make it really easy
to really enjoy this space. And listen,
this is three of four, and the next
one coming up. Is that a different building?
But there's a variety of things that you can always
Check out not just here in the Marshall
Building, but a variety of locations.
We'll get into more of that later on.
But, yes, definitely a lot to see
and a lot to show here at the Gallery Night MKE.
Today is Gallery Day because it is during the day.
So check out all you can see here in Milwaukee.
But for now, we'll send it back to you, Bria, in the studio.
All right. Thanks, Andrew.
We'll be right back after the break.
See you there.
You're watching Fox 6 News with Bria Jones.
As the weather gets colder,
it's almost time to start thinking about snow season.
Hate it or love it, but in this case, we're loving it.
Our next guest, hey, they say that doesn't have to be a bad thing.
Ebony Ice is a local chapter
of the National Brotherhood of Snow Sports,
creating opportunities for people of color to experience winter sports.
Joining us live in the studio this morning, we have Madam President.
I'll let you introduce yourself, and then, fellas,
I'll let you introduce yourselves as well.
Hi, my name is Ranjit Singh.
I am the proud president of Ebony Ice,
a non-profit ski club, and our mission is to diversify
snow sports.
Okay, so we have Vaughn.
Yes.
Okay, Vaughn, tell me your age
and how long you've been a part of Ebony Ice.
Twelve years old, and I've been skiing for five years.
Wow.
I was five.
Since you were five.
Okay, so you've been skiing for about seven years.
Were you introduced to skiing through Ebony Ice?
It was because of my parents.
They introduced me to Ebony Ice.
Really?
Us parents actually met in Ebony Ice.
Oh, wow.
What about you, Khalil?
I started skiing last year.
You like it?
Yes, it's really fun.
I used to do, like, skating in the winter,
but I got to this level where I had to compete
or I couldn't skate anymore,
so I wanted to try something more outdoors,
and this is where I kind of landed.
Yeah.
What is it like for you to see these two young men of color here
talking about their love for snow sports really
um it is a dream manifested and not just my dream
but the dream of Ebony Ice the organization
that's been around for over 35 years now
and it's just so beautiful to see someone
who's been a part of the organization since he was
just five years old and then a new participant
and then how snow sports and their love for just
getting together has formed a great friendship i believe
that will last a long time here yeah
Okay, so we've got to get to the open houses. That's why we're here.
You were trying to recruit more people,
let everybody know what you're doing.
Tell us about the open house and what people can expect.
Okay, so today is our annual open house, and it
is a day where we really get stoked about the upcoming winter season.
It's going to be at Discourse Coffee from 1 to 4 p.m.
We have a lot of programming.
One of the really awesome things we do is an auction.
That is supported by a lot of local businesses
who support us and believe in our mission,
including some really great partnerships with REI.
We are an official partner of REI.
Our local ski shop, Les Moises, shows us a lot of love,
and the national organizations like Burton show us love as well.
So we've got a really amazing...
And there's some fashion in the mix, too.
Oh, there's a fashion show, and it's not just a fashion show,
but it is a really awesome fashion show.
Last year, you were in the designs. Is this what we can expect?
Well, you know, it's a little teaser.
I'm going to bust out my jacket later on,
But really, it's an opportunity to educate
because we really want our participants to be prepared.
And if you don't know how to dress for success,
then you might not have a great time.
And so we just try to nip all of that in the bud
and get everybody up to speed at Open House.
Oh, thank you so much.
Okay, boys, really quickly, two words here.
What would you say to a kid watching this morning?
Why should they join Ebony Ice?
Or maybe a sentence if two words is too hard.
Um, if you're anything like me, like an outdoors type
of guy that loves adventure or, like, challenging yourself
and being competitive, like, I think you should come join Ebony Ice
because, like, some places where we go for skiing and snowboarding,
they have, like, jumps, ramps, and then they have tall hills,
bumpy hills, and you can meet, like,
a lot of new people that will help you push yourself.
All right, okay, what about you, Khalil?
I think it's a really good thing for kids to do because
if they're inside and they don't know what to do and they're
not really into sports and stuff and they want to try something new
and they like the winter and being outside,
I think this is a great opportunity for them to learn something new.
Well, thank you all so much for being here with us.
Ebony Ice Annual Open House is today.
You can check out this interview on Fox6Now.com.
We'll see you on the other side of the break. Thanks, folks.
I appreciate you being here with us. You guys be good.
Well, a cool morning out there.
Temperatures sitting in the low to mid-30s,
but some of the cooler evenings,
that is enhancing our foliage here locally.
So let's take a look at that map
because we are tracking some of our high to peak level conditions
in northern portions of the state and even furthest areas north
into the U.P. is where we have peak colors right now.
On average, we usually see our peak colors here in southern Wisconsin
as we move into the last couple of weeks of October.
And I think that's kind of on track of where we are right now.
We have more moderate colors across southern portions of the state,
so it may be a nice day for a drive before some more of those leaves
may come down tomorrow with stronger winds that will be with us.
We are expected to at least get out of the 30s, though,
by the afternoon, with temperatures today below average,
but in the mid-50s, again, plenty of sunshine
and winds transitioning out of the southwest that will keep us warmer,
too, as we're heading into tonight and tomorrow.
I'll break down more of what you need to know coming up.
Alright, see you soon Lisa.
A 28-year-old teacher from Rufus King High School is now
in custody accused of sexually assaulting three students.
Police say all three students were 17 years old.
The school says they received reports of a staff member
inappropriately touching students and immediately called police.
According to the school, the teacher
is not currently working in the school.
Police will refer criminal charges
to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days.
Prosecutors have now charged a 13-year-old boy
with beating up a fellow student at a Milwaukee school.
The incident happened Thursday afternoon at Ralph Metcalf School.
Prosecutors say the 13-year-old beat up an 8-year-old
as the younger child walked into an empty classroom to eat lunch.
A 13-year-old boy is charged in juvenile court with three counts
of substantial battery and one count of child abuse.
Milwaukee Public Schools said in a statement the boy hit
his head on a doorframe after being stopped by another student.
The district says it's working with the Milwaukee Police
and will take any appropriate disciplinary action.
For the second night in a row, the Pleasant Prairie Police
Department uses its new grappler device to stop a fleeing driver.
Take a look. Officers tried stopping this SUV for speeding
and it did not have any lights on.
A chase lasted several miles before police used
a grappler to quickly end the pursuit.
Turns out the SUV had been stolen minutes before the chase.
The 39-year-old driver was taken into custody.
And after the break, we're going to be doing some dancing.
The Combining Cultures Dance Company teaches us some moves.
We'll be right back.
You're watching Weather First with meteorologist Lisa Michaels.
Well, some of the scattered showers yesterday put
on a display of some beautiful rainbows,
and we had a double rainbow picture sent in from Jamie in Elkhorn.
Yes, a lot of rainbow pictures, a lot of rain shaft pictures,
and today we are not looking at having any rain in the forecast.
Thankfully, your weekend, and even extending into next week, looks dry.
We have a rather calm weather pattern set up for us again this week,
But there are going to be some fluctuations in temperature day by day,
which we'll talk about coming up.
For right now, though, if you are waking up with us,
thank you for watching us this morning.
It's 38 degrees in Milwaukee.
Areas inland are as low as 32 degrees.
So it is a chilly and frosty start.
Dew points also in the 30s.
So very dry air in place.
But our pressure is steady.
Again, we don't have any major system impacting us
the next couple of days, thankfully.
We are tracking the winds right now that have changed
from the north to now out of the west.
But they're going to change even more today,
which will overall give us a nicer forecast heading into the weekend.
I'll talk more about it in just a few.
All right. See you soon, Lisa.
Well, in case you missed it, our wake-up team was at Racine Case in
Indian Trail High Schools yesterday for our morning kickoff coverage.
Here's just a taste of what it looked like.
Let's talk about the big game happening tonight.
We are talking Racine Case at Indian Trail.
Kicking off the Fox 6 morning kickoff,
Brian Cramp is hanging out at Racine Case.
Good morning, Brian.
How's it going over there in the gym?
I got to tell you, there's something about being inside
a gymnasium before a football game that throws you off.
But there's an energy here that's palpable.
And one of the reasons why, it's because, really,
Racine Unified does a great job all the way around.
And Jody, as the deputy superintendent here,
walking into a gym like this, it makes you smile, doesn't it?
Oh, my gosh.
This is why we do what we do, right?
This is amazing.
I love the high school.
I call it the rah-rah, right?
It's the reason we bring young people in every day.
They do school, but the rah-rah is what keeps them here.
And this school does an amazing job at that.
As we toss it to our next correspondent, shall I say, in the field.
It's going to be loud there.
It's going to be loud here.
But I love the competition, Donovan.
Come on, baby.
It's all about the competition.
We love the noise.
The Hawks behind me are bringing that noise.
We've got so many people reflected here at Indian Trail High School
where it is going down tonight.
Okay, we've got to talk about one of the guys at the helm
of the athletic director program here.
It is Dan Owens.
He's right to my left here.
Great to have you, my man.
Great to see you.
A huge night for you guys.
So I've got to talk about this.
This is your first year as the athletic director here.
What does that mean to you, sir?
Representing the school.
It's just a tremendous honor to do that.
I've been a part of the Kenosha community my entire life.
Indian Trail is just a phenomenal school with great leadership
and all these great kids too, so it's been a blast.
I love Donovan's Instagram.
He said they were holding it down
for the Ball Kings, and I agree with him.
Well, our Andrew Muzo, he also had a lot
of fun yesterday during the kickoff.
He was at Racine Case hanging out with a pro wrestler.
Here's how that turned out.
Haley, I survived! I survived! I survived!
Let's go!
Okay, don't worry, Andrew Muzoo, he is okay.
He's here now joining us live from Gallery Night MKE.
He's been there all morning speaking with local artists
who will be showcasing their work to people downtown.
Andrew, I'm happy you survived that attack there.
Oh my gosh, you're talking about the chairs from yesterday.
Oh my, that was entertaining for sure.
And listen, there's going to be another entertaining day ahead of us,
especially here in Milwaukee.
course for gallery night MKE with it being uh throughout
the day today it's gallery day so
make sure you head out to different locations we're
at a new location we're at the Marshall
building okay all morning long now we're
at a different place you sort of want to tell them
where we're at and i know the name
is pretty pretty familiar to you because it's your own
yes we're at my gallery which is Tory Follyard gallery
and i've been here for 38 years well just
was telling Andrew,
and we represent probably the largest collection of Wisconsin artists
as our primary group, but it's mainly,
the rest of them are from the Midwest, if there's
not a Wisconsin connection.
But they are from abstract to realistic painters,
sculptors, photographers, quite a great combination.
And they're from, also emerging to established artists.
And right now we're having a show of Charles Munch.
Excuse me.
Is this the stuff right here?
Yes.
These are the paintings in here.
And he is one of my older artists,
meaning he's been with me for, well, 35 years.
Really?
Wow.
Yes.
And he's extremely talented, as you can see.
He is Wisconsin-based.
He lives just outside of Spring Green in Lone Rock, Wisconsin.
And his work is all about nature and man's relationship to nature.
And they're all bold and colorful, as you can see.
Look at that.
Yeah, the clouds.
I mean, they're just great, great, great paintings.
and they're all i mean it's quite a variety
of sizes he works he's an interesting artist in that
he does several versions of the same painting okay
so in other words every time he changes the size
it becomes a different painting he can add things to it
or remove things and all the colors are
always the same and he's a wonderful colorist
as you can see he loves color definitely variety and
even more back here right well
this is this is the other artists that i represent they're all
through the gallery and then I have another small show
for gallery for this period of time it's uh
from Robert Koch and he's
in the East Gallery up front we can go we can walk through here
this way yeah we can go through here
but these are artists from all over the country
well this and represented all over
the country Tom Utick is one of probably our most
prominent artists right here uh
those are all landscapes Fred Stonehouse another big name in
wisconsin art and we can keep coming through here
because you're touring there's a lot of artwork here
and i've been asking people this question
because i think it's really interesting with this being
obviously here for decades what is something
that you would you know tell people this is their first
time going to an art gallery they want to learn more
or they're an artist themselves and they
picture themselves no pun intended of their work being
on the walls right what advice would you
give those type of people well if you mean
if they're looking for representation because that's
a whole other subject. And I think artists
that look for representation, well, they have
to have some background.
For me, they have to have a career in art. Or sometimes, just
through the number of galleries they have exhibited,
that's important. I mean, I look
for, does the style match what we do here?
Whether it's abstract or realistic, does it
feel the same quality as what we have?
So that's what I look for, well, within an
artist is the quality of the art yeah
and you're definitely seeing a lot of high quality stuff here
a lot of nature things and i think yes
that's really something that we're putting it on display
lisa i know we're talking about all things
are nature i know you have a lot coming up for us
in the forecast we certainly do and you know it might
be a great day to go inside there today
because it's a little bit warmer of course than outside
but we have a lot of sunshine and that
is going to warm us up and get rid of some
of the frost out there this may be the first time
of the season, you'll be pulling out the ice scraper.
I've seen a lot of vehicles with frost
on them, especially those that have been sitting out overnight.
It should be a relatively quick
scrape, but it's scraped nonetheless that we have
to then think about heading into the winter months
ahead. We are going to feel a little cooler today,
but because of the lack of clouds across the state
and calm winds overnight,
both of those allowed our temperatures to drop below freezing for some
spots and of course that
because we are cloud free
most part, our temperatur
rather quickly throughout
no longer seeing the 20s
near that freezing mark f
38 in Milwaukee and also
freezing mark near Juneau.
warming trend today will
no rain in the forecast.
through the upcoming hou
our temperatures right around the lunch hour
in the upper 40s to low 50s continuing to reach the
low to mid 50s today so it will still
be about five degrees below average but the 60s they come
back into play for your forecast tomorrow
the reason why we're going to explain it as we dig
in the sky vision plus we'll continue to talk about the winds
because with our winds that'll
be shifting out of the southwest by this afternoon
and tonight that is going to keep our temperatures
more mild. So we are still looking at having clear skies tonight,
but the forecast is going
to be different. Part one,
because of the wind direction coming out of the southwest, that's
going to keep our temperatures warmer.
But part two, we're also still tracking winds that could
be anywhere from 5 to 15 miles an hour overnight.
That would prevent any frost from forming as we
head into Sunday morning. So I do not think we
are going to be added to any more freeze warnings,
frost advisories but we still could have some inland areas
in the upper 30s with low 40s near
the lakefront by the time we wake up tomorrow tomorrow we'll
also have more sunshine but the
wind a little stronger out of the southwest gusts could
be near 25 30 miles an hour so plan on a
breezier second half of the weekend but even
though it's looking being breezier it's going
to be warmer we have temperatures looking
to reach the low 60s tomorrow mid 60s as we head
to monday tuesday and continuing to again see
the upper 60s possibly even some 70s by the end of the
week the big trend though is sunshine and staying dry
so we are really looking at having another
fall-like and wonderful week ahead with more warm temperatures
that could accompany us as we head
towards the end of the month
and lisa we've got some sunshine in the studio with us oh there's
no better way to celebrate diverse cultures than through dance
and that's what our next guests are
all about. They just had a performance
at the Milwaukee Public Museum for Hispanic Heritage
Month just last week. It was fabulous.
Now, the Combining Cultures Dance Company, they are here
with us in studio. Thank you for being here.
Thank you for having us. Okay, so I'll let you
guys introduce yourselves quickly.
Okay, I'm Audrey, a captain of Combining Cultures. My name
is Mikayla, and I'm a senior female lead.
My name is Analia, and I'm female lead, senior captain.
I'm senior, and I'm a teacher at Lake Geneva
Badger High School. Okay, let's, I want to know
all about this club i mean
this dance company here you guys obviously you practice you work
really hard together what's what's
the the the vibe here amongst the group how do you guys come
together to make this happen um we
do practices every single day monday through thursday we have
friday off for two and a half hours after school
um we're kind of just like a big family though so
the time flies really this is a lot of practice
which honestly makes it great i think because
you're still staying active after school
when it comes to the dance moves and how you chore
do your choreography is that something that you
do or do you let them all take part in
how they want to add i give them a small snippet
of small okay it's still a cool part though yes
it's small yeah and then i i just kind
of choreograph whatever the music tells me to do
and and then teach these guys
and then the room we're able to do it okay we got to know who you're
rep and tell us what high school you're from come
on add your high school all right okay when we
talk about combining cultures what kind of cultures
are you guys combining and has it been fun for you
all to learn different cultures it's been really fun we get
to learn a lot of different kinds of
dance a lot of it's from like cuba and stuff
and it's just so much fun to be able to dance all
these different moves that so many people have
learned before now what would you say is the
hardest part when it comes to dancing?
Because I've seen you practice earlier. You're all looking
like professionals, but we know it doesn't come easy, right?
Your hard work really pays off. What
is the most challenging part? I think timing.
So we all hit the same thing at the same time. Okay.
The little minute details are definitely a big thing,
but that's why we practice so much is to
hit all those perfect. Are you guys tough as captains?
That might be. Yeah. That's what keeps
the team running. What is it like for you
to make sure that you're immersing your students
in these cultures?
Well, the administration, first of all,
they support everything that we do at Badger.
And so I've had the opportunity to go and do this.
This is our 24th year.
Oh, wow.
That's incredible.
So shout out to all the former dancers.
But I don't know.
It's just I'm given an opportunity,
you know, on top of being a Spanish teacher,
just to go and extend it one step further with the culture.
It's not just about the language.
It's about all the other things.
Yeah.
OK, I wanted you guys to give us a quick little one, too,
because they're going to perform for us.
Just a few seconds, but if those are watching at home.
Well, maybe they want to enter into salsa
Where maybe a few little steps they could do simple steps. Yes
These girls are gonna take you through
the most important move in salsa dancing and it's basic steps
I have the girls step forward a little bit.
All right, and with the counting we're gonna step forward girls
You want to go and teach us actually?
So you're gonna step forward with your right foot
okay one and then you're going to step forward
with your left on two back with your right on
three then four is just not there just pretend it's
not okay it's not there yeah and then back
with your left on five back with your right on six
and forward with your left on seven okay and then
eight i don't think we did that well
but it doesn't matter because i'm gonna see you guys
do
we're
gonna
step
out
of the
way
and
let
you
guys
perform
it's
like
one
last
look
at our
six

be happy again it could be the music could
be the weather lots of sunshine this weekend cooler today
a little warmer but windier tomorrow
