AI GeneratedThe severe thunderstorm watch for Nassau County has been canceled, but scattered showers and gusty winds will persist overnight. Steady rain is expected after midnight, accompanied by winds up to 40 mph. Temperatures will drop significantly through Saturday and Sunday, bringing chilly conditions before a drier, warmer trend begins next week.
If you are just joining us tonight, I just want to let you know
the earlier severe thunderstorm watch for Nassau County has
been canceled, and we don't expect severe thunderstorms
from this point forward, but we're in and out of rain showers.
Really, the heaviest rain really just grazed the North Shore
and had some brief gusty wind. That's now over the Long Island Sound.
And so pretty much from this point forward, you notice the wind first,
but you can run into some scattered showers,
even a brief downpour as we go throughout the rest of tonight.
But we're starting to notice some of those gusts in the 30 mile
per hour range, and we'll generally have 20 to 30
35 mile per hour wind gusts as we go throughout the overnight.
Can't even rule one out around 40 miles per hour.
So with the showers, with the gusty conditions,
there could be an isolated power outage overnight.
Not a whole lot of rain right now that is steady, just on the off
and on light to moderate rain shower chances we go throughout
from right now and say around midnight or so.
After midnight, I do think we get a round of some steadier rain
that is light to moderate most of the overnight,
but it's a steady rain paired with wind around 15 to 35 miles per hour.
And so it's just kind of a really nasty
overnight to be traveling. So just slow down
a little bit if you are out and about. I do expect
the rain to still end between six and eight in the morning.
Then it's cloudy and breezy and
certainly chilly for a while.
And as we get into the afternoon on Saturday, gradually we'll start
to see some breaks of sun, but it will take a while.
Some of the latest trends actually have
the clouds hanging on a little bit longer.
I do think we'll brighten up that sky in the afternoon
on Saturday, but it will just take a little
while for us to get there and see more of that sunshine.
Feels like temperatures going from the 60s tonight down
into the 50s after around two o'clock
Saturday morning. By the time you're out and about,
you're going to need the winter jacket
on Saturday. It'll feel like around 40 degrees first thing
in the morning. Mid 40s at best in
the afternoon. Coldest part of the weekend
is going to be Saturday night into Sunday morning.
It'll feel like the low 40s by around early Saturday evening.
Then it will feel like the
30s the rest of Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
So we do have colder weather on the way
into the weekend. So periods of rain overnight, windy becoming chilly.
Some of those gusts around
30 to 40 miles per hour into early in the morning
and it's still breezy on
Saturday. We're drying out though.
It's just going to be a much chillier feel
even through Sunday, but next week
feeling better with mostly dry weather.
