AI GeneratedA reporter provides a live update on a house engulfed in flames during the Northridge fire. Despite firefighting efforts and the use of Phos-Chek, the home has suffered significant structural collapse. While this specific residence is currently the only one burning on its street, the event highlights the ongoing danger posed by high temperatures and wind in the region.
We want to bring you back in the fold here.
If you can, while we're making this switch,
kind of tell us what you're seeing right now.
I mean, look at this heavy smoke and the flames as
well. Yes. You know, this is in between the part
of the roof that collapsed and the part of the
home that is still standing as we see very,
very intense, fierce flames shooting up into the air
and sending all that black smoke up as well.
And this is what we've been watching for the past,
you know half hour or longer is just them getting kind
of the the flames to die down a little bit
here and then they just roar back
and I can feel the heat of it now actually it's the first time
I'm feeling the heat of it we did move
a little closer than we were before but we're still keeping
of course a safe distance letting these crews
do their jobs you could see all of those flames
and you can see below where the roof
is still standing that one side where the chimney is
You can just see those flames touching the top of it there,
really roaring through that
part of the house.
This other part where the garage is,
is still standing as far as we can tell, at least from
the outside, but the rest of that house has just given way
to these very intense flames
that won't stop.
Thankfully, we're getting a little break
in the wind right now, and the crews are kind
of assessing how they're going to attack it next.
I would imagine in the next couple
of minutes they're going to start hitting this with water
again.
And we continue to see a little bit of white smoke, some smoke
billowing out of some of the roof here a little closer to us.
But those flames just keep going.
Again, pushing all of this black smoke
into the neighborhood right here.
And we're not far from the coast.
We certainly could see the smoke from miles away
as we made our way down the five.
And I'm just watching.
You kind of see how the crews reassess every few minutes
to see how they're going to continue to protect
the surrounding properties and get a handle on this here.
We see flames creeping up again.
And this part of the roof that we're looking at right now,
when we first got here, it was still standing.
It went up into a point.
We've seen the flames.
I'll bring that down to just a little part of roof left over here.
And in the last few minutes, we saw a lot of collapsing.
We're hearing a lot of popping right now.
We know that that part of that roof collapsed.
We certainly heard when that happened.
And several pops, at least a half a dozen popping noises.
It's unclear exactly what that was.
could have been something in the home you got
to remember what what do you
have in your home you got appliances
you've got electronics that stuff when
it meets fire it tends
to implode like I think we're hearing right now I don't
know for sure but I've got to imagine
that could have been a microwave or some
kind of appliance that went up
and we're hearing all those pops but we continue
to watch these crews here
and they're they're letting the the flames do their
thing right now I'm seeing more flames
on this part of the round part of the
home. Looks like the front door just above the front entryway.
I've seen the flames creep out
and they're doing it quite quickly on this part.
I would imagine they're going to start getting
some water on this again soon as those flames move over again
to top the garage. Now I'm seeing the
very top of the garage and it's close to where some Phos-Chek was put
but so much water has gone
on this home as well. So they're doing all they can
to get a handle on this as unfortunately this
home is just engulfed. It is such a sad sight to see, Nick.
This is Marla Tejas joining the
coverage now in the four o'clock hour on this Friday.
We do have these dueling images here
on the ground, live pictures, courtesy of our crew,
including Nick Garcia, who you've been
listening to, and then up above those aerials from Skyfox.
And Nick, just so you know, and you can
probably see Skyfox if you look up from where you are on the ground.
It is on that tight shot of the
same home that you're showing from the ground.
This is just such a sad sight to see. We know
multiple homes have been engulfed in flames
because of the Northridge fire that has been now
burning for a few hours now.
The lead agency is Orange County Fire Authority. We talk about the
wind speeds in the area.
We talk about the high temperatures and what these firefighters are up
against as we're seeing sort of a broader view
and we're seeing that Phos-Chek that has been
dumped onto this property nick i'm wondering
and what we saw in the palisades fire and the
eaton fire a lot of that hopscotch nature
of these flames is this the only home on this
particular street that is currently in this situation
that's right marla this is the only
home so far you see how close this one is right next door
and it is not on fire right now so this
is the only one and that's you know heartbreaking nonetheless
for the people who live here but that
is the only home we're seeing on fire right now.
I saw a sky fox a little while ago we were in
another neighborhood I can't see it now
because the smoke is obstructing our view but I know that
they're providing images as well
I'm probably able to see a lot where those flames have moved into
firefighters just in the last couple minutes were zooming
with their firefighters putting water
as much as they can. At this point two or three hoses
and we know that there are water hoses on
the back side of the house as well ready to go
when they're ready for that. But like you said
Marla I mean people see these images
and I think that our region is just forever scarred and you
think right back to January 2025 and what we saw in the Palisades
and in Altadena. We're not seeing
the hopscotching just right now
and the wind has calmed down a little bit so hoping that that
continues to be the case,
this is the only home here and like I was telling
Coco earlier, the neighborhood on the next hillside
and the next ridge, we saw
tons of people, over a dozen, just standing there watching and I'm sure
concerned that this fire is going to move closer to them.
