You know, some fans wanting to witness a World Series game in person,
they are reeling from the sticker shock today.
Jenna Sachs is in the newsroom with what game tickets are going for
and the warning to anyone looking to snag a deal.
Jenna, what are you seeing? How high are these prices?
I mean, they're very high.
You can't get single game tickets
right now through the Brewers website.
I called the box office today just to see what would happen.
I spent about an hour on hold,
only to be told all four games are sold out.
So that said, you can find seats
on fan ticket reselling websites for a premium.
So let's start with SeatGeek.
That's the MLB's fan-to-fan ticket marketplace.
Tickets for game one range from about $2,700 for a terrace seat
to nearly $14,000 right now behind home plate.
So on StubHub,
tickets range from about $2,300 for standing room to $13,500.
and a similar situation over on Ticket King
with tickets between $3,000 and $9,700.
Now, those are, of course, the far ends of the spectrum.
Many tickets seem to fall in the $3,500 to $6,000 range,
but still a wide range there for the price and thousands of dollars,
a lot more than some people wanted to pay.
Yeah, do I sell my car? Do I go to the World Series?
Yeah.
Jenna, as our Contact Six reporter, I mean,
you know that some ticket resellers,
They're more reliable, really, than others.
Absolutely.
I think a lot of people are looking all over
the Internet right now for affordable seats.
So we spoke with the Division of Trade
and Consumer Protection about this topic.
So first, here's some advice.
Use an established platform that will guarantee your ticket.
The policy language should be on its website.
You should also use a credit card.
That's just good advice in general
because they offer better protection against fraudulent charges.
and be skeptical of what you find
on social media like Instagram or Facebook.
Be careful of what you click there.
And then if you do buy a ticket,
you should always insist on an in-app transfer of the ticket.
And here's what I mean by that.
Once you purchase it, you're going to want
to be sure that it loads into your MLB ballpark app
and that you have the barcode.
Don't just take a PDF image of barcodes.
That's not an electronic ticket that won't get you in the doors.
Also, it's always good to be on the lookout for copycat websites.
Look for misspellings in the name or lookalike domains.
And if the seats are priced drastically below market value,
that is almost always a scam.
And the last thing we want is someone showing up at the game,
all excited, having spent a lot of money and being denied entry.
Be a bummer.
Hey, Jenna, let's talk merch.
where can people get official World Series gear?
Well, I think we saw some of them out today. The
official clothing is available at the Brewers team store
at American Family Field. There are
two locations there.
One is at the left field gate and the other is at the home plate gate
entrance. The store's hours have been extended after last night's game.
They'll be open Monday
through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We're told the Brewers team
store will take orders over the phone they can
also ship to your house or arrange in-store pickup
you can also email them orders at team store
at brewers.com and they're going to have the locker
room caps and the t-shirts worn by the team the on-field hoodies
and novelty items like pins and
pendants so you can find what you want
And Jenna, the knockoff merchandise has arrived. The tents
have popped up all over Milwaukee. Uh, some fans, I mean, they might
not care if their shirt is not
authentic but they could risk up ending up being disappointed
if they buy one of those, right? That's
always a risk. The item they order, especially
if they're doing it online, it may not arrive. It may
be poor quality when it comes
or they could be exposing their payment information to a scammer
so the Wisconsin Department of Consumer Protection says always
be on the lookout for imposter
websites that are designed to look identical
to the trustworthy sellers you know and you can maybe
you recognize them because they'll have really steep discounts.
Also, it's good to know your
seller online. Using a little-known retailer is just riskier.
And instead of clicking on
promotional links or ads you find,
go directly to the source, you know, and trust. Just being very
cautious of the websites that you're going to,
that too good to be true. If you can find the
latest, greatest jersey that's out there and it is 50%,
75% off, that has to be a red flag for
consumers. Yeah, and you also just run the risk
of an item that takes a really long time to arrive
or it just doesn't arrive at all.
So that's just a little advice about your money while we're all
cheering on the team. Ashley and Ben?
All right, that's great advice, Jenna. You getting tickets?
You know, I've been watching at home and I've been pretty happy.
I'll, you know, save that money for
a home improvement or something.
I think your husband would look good in a purple tuxedo going
to the ballpark and cheering on the Brew Crew.
