Well, right now, runners are gearing up
for the 49th Detroit Free Press Marathon.
Less than 48 hours away, and excitement is, of course, building.
Fox 2's Camille LeMire is live at Huntington Place.
Camille, how's it going out there? It looks busy.
Oh, it's busy. It's been busy since 1 o'clock.
Everyone coming to pick up their registration,
their bibs, their t-shirts, getting official.
Because, like you said,
less than 48 hours away until the Detroit Free Press Marathon.
And joining us right now is Aaron Veltovin.
You are the executive director and president,
or wait, give me, VP, director.
It doesn't matter.
I'm the race director.
He's the head honcho.
Okay, that's all that matters.
Let's talk about today and let's talk about Sunday.
Yeah, I mean, today everybody is excited.
They're picking up their bibs after months of training.
It's finally race weekend for them.
So we've got, you know,
thousands of people coming here from all over the world.
over 35 countries represented.
It's going to be our largest field in our 49-year history,
so it starts today. And how exciting.
I mean, people literally from all over the world,
people have been coming up to us thinking we work here asking
for help. They have all these
cool foreign accents. I mean, we really feel,
it feels really cool to be in Detroit right now.
It's great. I mean, people are experiencing
the city for the first time. We've got a lot
of new participants that have never run us before.
So they're coming into Detroit,
They're getting the Detroit experience today, and they're going
to get an amazing Detroit and Windsor experience on Sunday.
Perfect.
And speaking of Detroit-Windsor,
we're going to be talking to Tal over here, who runs the tunnel.
My photographer, of course, getting some cool video.
But talk to me about this international friendship that we have.
Listen, we've been best friends for 150 years.
Regardless of what's happening in Ottawa and Washington,
we're still best friends.
And this race is a great example of the friendship
and the connection that our two countries have.
And we're so happy to be part of it.
Talk about the tunnel and how cool it is.
It's part of the race.
It's awesome.
The only underwater mile for a marathon in North America.
Listen, how often do you get to run through the tunnel?
Once a year, four hours, that's it.
We're so happy to be part of it.
Hashtag take the tunnel.
And over the bridge and then under the tunnel, right?
Absolutely.
Over the bridge, under the tunnel.
You start to get a wee bit tired when you approach the tunnel,
but we promise we're going to fill you full of energy and probably some
Timbits to get you through the tunnel and get you back into Detroit.
Sounds awesome. Okay, so there you have it.
We'll be back at 6 o'clock with more, but that is what's going on here,
Jessica. I will send it back to you in the studio.
