It comes amid an intensification of bullying,
harassment and political pressure against sovereign countries,
particularly in recent weeks in an effort to force them to change
their vote on the Cuban resolution against the blockade,
which will be considered this 27th and 28th of October.
The U.S. Secretary of State himself,
who in my humble opinion has an unhealthy obsession with Cuba,
has been reaching out directly to head of state and government
in a desperate attempt to pressure them
into changing their country's positions
and votes on the resolution.
This is an unacceptable campaign of political bullying
and intimidation.
aimed at interfere with the sovereign decisions of the UN member states.
This exposes the lengths to which Washington is willing to go.
Sir, I thought...
Good morning, everyone.
First of all, I would like to thank you,
all of you, to be with us today, this morning.
In the eastern end of the time,
I will read a brief statement and later my colleagues,
they will distribute it among you.
So good morning.
We appear before all of you today to denounce the holding next Monday,
on 19 October, at
the United Nations headquarters of an event convened
by the permanent mission of the United
States under the provocative title,
Cuba Libre, the Oppression, Havana Heights.
We denounce this event in the strongest possible terms.
It is a politically motivated exercise,
organized in a questionable manner, whose clear purpose
is to target Cuba, promote a hostile narrative against our country,
and use the premises
of the United Nations to advance the political agenda
of the United States government against
a sovereign member state.
Here I have the copy of the invitation,
of course, they didn't send us, but we have very
good friends all over around the world,
that is something that they cannot say.
And it says, like we said in Cuba,
if you have a friend, you have the sugar cane factory.
So here he said, the representative
of the United States of America to the United Nations,
ambassador, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
request the pleasure of the company of the permanent
representative, blah, blah, blah, blah, Monday,
October 19, 1.30 to 2.30, United Nations
headquarters, conference room 6.
And we have also the concept note. Here you have, we have
some interesting topics in this note.
For example, it said the panelist names are not
being shared prior to the event. Why is that?
What is the reason for the secret? Why they
don't know to present the people that are going
to talk during this event? Of course,
We know that these people,
they are not coming to say that on January 29, 2026, the President
of the United States signing an executive order established sanctions
to any foreign company or foreign country that sell oil to Cuba.
That is the reason because Cuba have
not received any oil tanker since during the last 10 months,
just one, coming from Russia as a humanitarian air.
or they are not coming to say
that Cuba has 7,000 containers in the international ports
that no shipping company wants to take to Cuba
because they are afraid to be sanctioned.
Because on May 1, 2026,
the President of the United States signed an executive order
to establish secondary sanctions to any company, to any country
that established bilateral
or maintained bilateral trade relations with Cuba,
like it is their rights.
The paper said also the meeting will be open to invited press. I'm not
sure if you have been invited,
but it's obvious that they want to produce a media show. And to
do that, they need a press that publish what they want to publish
and not what you consider
interesting to publish.
It also said that there will be no ability to provide an intervention.
So it's just to go there, listen what they have to say, and halas.
They are not interested in anything else.
They are not interested to know your opinion
about what they are talking about.
And, of course, it's an event by invitation,
which is not the practice in the UN.
Like a practice in the UN is to organize events
that everybody can attend,
everybody has the right to make comments,
and everybody has the right to have an exchange.
So, going back to my statement, let us be clear.
The United Nations is not a platform for political persecution,
interference in the internal affair of the state,
or campaigns aimed at undermining their sovereignty.
Such an initiative violates the rules governing the use
of UN premises, including Administrative Instruction ST/IA/2019/4,
which requires that events held in the UN facilities
be consistent with the purpose and principles of the UN Charter
and respect the dignity of the organization.
The double standards are also evident.
The United States continues to accumulate unpaid assessed contributions
to the regular budget of the United Nations,
undermining the organization's financial stability
while using public funds and taxpayer money to organize meetings
that have nothing to do with the UN agenda.
While the United States organized an event to attack Cuba
at the UN headquarters, it deliberately avoided addressing
the only item on the UN agenda specifically devoted to Cuba,
which is the necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial
embargo that the United States itself imposed in our country.
This is not an isolated initiative.
It comes amid an intensification of bullying,
harassment and political pressure against sovereign countries,
particularly in recent weeks, in an effort to force them to change
their vote on the Cuban resolution against the blockade,
which will be considered this 27th and 28th of October.
The U.S. Secretary of State himself, who,
in my humble opinion, has an unhealthy obsession with Cuba,
has been reaching out directly to Havana's state
and government in a desperate attempt to pressure them into changing
their country's positions and votes on the resolution.
This is an unacceptable campaign of political bullying
and intimidation aimed
and interfered with the sovereign decisions of the U.N. member states.
This exposes the lengths to which Washington is willing to go.
Having said that,
the upcoming U.S. event is nothing more than a political charade,
intending to distract international attention
from the mounting rejection of the blockade
and to undermine support for the draft resolution.
I have to be very clear.
Cuba will not be intimidated, blackmailed, or silenced.
We call on all member states to uphold the U.N. Charter,
reject coercion and double standards,
and support the resolution to end the U.S. blockade against Cuba on 27
and 28 October
as its devastating impact
on the Cuban people has reached unprecedented levels this year.
The issue before the international community is clear.
The United States should stop attacking Cuba
and comply with the repeated demands of the international community
to end its illegal and inhumane blockade.
Cuba is not a threat.
The blockade is I insist Cuba is not a threat
the blockade is thank you very much. Have a good day
