There are less than two weeks to go until the Budget and we've just sat down with the Chancellor, John Healey, at the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund in Bangkok.

We spoke on the day we learned that the UK economy grew steadily in August, following strong growth in June and July. Momentum may have faded a little, but Britain remains one of the fastest-growing economies in the G7.

The challenge is that war in the Gulf is driving up inflation and borrowing costs.

Households are already contending with higher mortgage rates. Food and energy prices are expected to rise in the months ahead.
