AI GeneratedA candidate for U.S. Senator in Texas delivers a campaign speech framing the election as a battle between grassroots people-power and a corrupt political establishment. He contrasts his own history of public service and bipartisan achievements with the alleged corruption of Attorney General Ken Paxton, pledging to end corporate influence in politics.
Going up against a lot of money.
This race reminds me of that story in the Bible
of a shepherd boy who goes up against a giant.
For 40 days, Goliath taunts and teases.
On the day of the fight, he shows up in full armor.
He's carrying so many weapons,
he has to get someone else to hold his shield.
We are going up against our own Goliaths,
those billionaire mega donors, those corporate PACs,
the entire Washington, D.C. establishment.
Their power is real.
but so is ours. David may not have
been as big or as strong as Goliath.
He may not have had as
many weapons, but he had hope and he had a slingshot.
You are my slingshot. The people of
Texas are my slingshot.
And on November 3rd, those Goliaths aren't going to know what hit them.
I am so, so happy to be back home
in Central Texas.
Last night, last night I was in Fort Worth
for a live town hall with CNN where i took
questions directly from Texas voters because
if you're applying for the job of U.S. Senator
if you're applying for the job of representing 31
million Texans you should show up to the job
interview but as you probably know one person
wasn't there Attorney General Ken Paxton Ken
Paxton showed up in London for the Fourth of
July to party with the British he showed up he showed up
in Dubai for New Year's Eve to party
with his fugitive friends he will literally show up anywhere
but a debate stage here in Texas
you you have my word i will always show
up for you i will always listen to you
and i will always
fight for you we are building a movement
to take back our state and take back our country
We are uniting Texans from all backgrounds and beliefs onto one team
to take on this broken, corrupt political system.
I have traveled to every corner
of this state over the last year.
I've gone from Beaumont to El Paso.
I've gone from Amarillo to Brownsville and everywhere in between.
big cities and small towns red areas
and blue areas alike and we have had tens of thousands
of Texans showing up to rally with us i stay till
the very end of all these events i get to hear
from folks directly i cannot tell you the number of people
who come up to me at the end of these
events and whisper i'm not a democrat like they're
in the witness protection program i can't tell you
the number of young people who come up to me
and say it's the first political event
they've ever attended.
That, that, that is how we change
the politics of this state and of this
country. We, we have recruited more than 60,000 volunteers
who are knocking on doors and making
phone calls and writing text messages.
And if you haven't yet, when you go home tonight, I hope you
will visit our website and sign up to volunteer yourself
and we have shattered grassroots
fundraising records all without taking all all
without taking a dime from corporate PACs this
is a people-powered campaign and on november 3rd we
are going to do something extraordinary
we are going to do something historic we are going
to end 30 years of one party rule in this state
and and we are going to elect
a senator who's going to serve
all 31 million texans we we've
we've forgotten that that's what politics
is supposed to be about it's supposed to be about
service elected officials aren't supposed
to serve themselves they're not supposed to serve
their mega donors they are supposed to serve us they
are supposed to serve the people we have
strayed from that. I first learned the meaning
of service from my great-grandfather, my Papi.
He was a barber in Port O'Connor, Texas on the Gulf Coast,
and he served this country in World
War II in the Pacific Theater.
Papi was a member of the greatest generation, a group of Americans
who asked not what their country could do for them,
but what they could do for their country.
and whether he was cutting his neighbor's hair
or fighting fascism on the other side of the world
poppy was always serving other people he
was a a faithful man that's the best word i can think of
to describe him, he was a devout Christian
and he tried to actually live like Jesus who in the words
of scripture came not to be served but to serve
and that's how my poppy lived his life, my poppy
came not to be served but to serve and that's
that's what inspired me to go into public service
first as a public school teacher on the west side
of San Antonio and now as a public official in the
Texas House, I entered the classroom in the fall
of 2011 right after the Texas Legislature cut
more than five billion dollars from public education
I saw the impact of those cuts
firsthand. I saw programs get eliminated.
I saw students slip through the cracks. I saw class
sizes grow. At one point, I had 45 students in one classroom.
There weren't enough desks for all
those kids, so I had students sitting on the air conditioning unit.
In the wealthiest country in
human history in the 21st century children sitting
on the air conditioning unit and that made me mad
I ended up leading an education non-profit here in Central Texas
and then when a seat in that very
same legislature that had cut those five billion dollars
from our public schools opened up in my
hometown of Round Rock, Texas, I threw my hat
in the ring, shout out Round Rock biggest donuts in the
world, I threw my hat in the ring, I
was 28 years old, I had never run for office before, I was a
Democrat running in a Trump district in a county
that was so red it hadn't voted for a Democrat
for president since Jimmy Carter.
I was told by the powers that be in the Democratic Party
that that race was a lost cause.
I was told that even if it was possible to flip a district like
that, I was too young. I didn't have the money.
I didn't have the political connections to pull
off an upset like that.
But my neighbors and I, we ran an aggressive, authentic, at times
unorthodox campaign that brought people together
and on election night we flipped that district
with 51% of the vote and now
and now I'm in my fourth term
in the Texas House where I have
brought Democrats and Republicans together
to pass 60 bipartisan bills bills that lower the
cost of housing the cost of child care the cost
of prescription drugs including insulin bills that
raise teacher pay and cut property taxes.
I ran for office not to be served, but to serve
And then there's Ken Paxton,
the most corrupt politician in Texas. You may know that three
years ago, Ken Paxton was impeached by his own party,
by his fellow Republicans for using his
public office his position of public trust to enrich himself
and his donors at the expense
of the people of Texas Ken Paxton represents everything
that's wrong with this broken
corrupt political system he doesn't serve us he
serves himself you may have seen the reporting
that since taking office Ken Paxton has increased
his net worth by 27 million dollars you may have
seen the reporting that as a public official
Ken Paxton now owns 15 homes while most Texans
struggle to afford one it's it's hard it's hard
to get 15 homes in a game of Monopoly I don't know
how Ken Paxton got 15 homes he has taken bribes from wealthy donors all
while he blocks overtime
pay for Texas workers and guts our healthcare
this this is the rot at the core of this broken
system. It's why so many Texans can't get ahead
no matter how hard they work. It's why we can't
afford the basics in this economy.
We have an affordability crisis because we have a corruption
crisis. We can't afford because
for five decades now, billionaire
mega donors have been buying
politicians in both political parties.
And then those puppets turn around and rig the rules of
the economy in favor of those mega donors
at our expense they've been doing it they've been stealing
from the American people for five decades
with their bribes with their bailouts with their
billionaire tax breaks trickle
down economics is not a theory it
is theft we we can't afford gas
or groceries or health care
because the system has been rigged by billionaires and corrupt
politicians like Ken Paxton I
in the state house have brought both parties together to cut your
taxes and cap the cost of insulin but we got
to do a lot more than that this election is about
whether we will have a senator who puts money in your pocket
or puts money in their own together
we can beat the most corrupt
politician in Texas and make life
affordable again we are going up
against a lot, these mega donors have already spent 200 million dollars
to try to defeat this
movement that we're building in Texas, they are pouring
so much money into this race, they're
spending money on attack ads making me look like
a real scary guy, they are spending their money
misleading the people of this state, they
are spending their money to buy this election and
we can't let them, the reason they're doing
this is because they know that I don't work for them
I don't take corporate PAC money and I never will.
They, they know, they know, they know that when we win this race,
we are going to ban corporate PACs and super PACs
so they can't flood our elections with their money.
they know, they know, they know that we are going
to ban members of Congress in both parties from
trading stocks and enriching themselves
while they're in public office, they know, they know
we are going to ban gerrymandering in every state
in the union, red states and blue states, oh and
they know that we are gerrymandering in every can
you hear me now? And they know that we are going
to pass term limits so we can show career
politicians going up against a lot of money
this race reminds me of that story in the Bible of a shepherd boy
who goes up against a giant
for 40 days Goliath taunts
and teases, on the day of the fight he shows up in full armor, he's
carrying so many weapons he has to get someone else

but he had hope and he had a slingshot. You are
my slingshot. The people of Texas are my slingshot.
And on November 3rd, those Goliaths aren't going
to know what hit them.
We have so much work to do, San Marcos,
so much work to do, but I am
confident I feel it in my bones that if we
do that work we are going to win this election on
November 3rd and we're going to elect a senator
who will serve for being God bless let's go win
