Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers due to a superficial blood clot in his calf, the team announced Thursday.⠀
Dr. Andrea Lubitz, a vascular surgeon at Temple Health, said treatment for a superficial blood clot depends on its location. #philadelphiaeagles #bloodclot #fyp #health #jalenhurts

Acting producer John Paul spoke with physicians and fans today.
John, this was apparently discovered before Hertz suited up
for last Sunday's game in London.
That's true. They even did an ultrasound
while they were over there in London.
But doctors said, hey, we'll keep an eye on it, but you can still play.
Well, that all changed,
and today we learned that he will not be suiting up on Sunday.
Now, I did talk with doctors.
They say the treatments for this kind of an injury,
they vary, and so does the timeline for recovery.
Tanner McKee was on the practice field this afternoon,
now the likely starter for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Just hours earlier, the Eagles revealed Jalen Hurts won't take
the field after finding a blood clot.
As a quarterback, especially as a backup quarterback,
you have to be ready at a moment's notice.
The organization put out a statement today saying they're trying
to figure out a course of treatment for QB1.
They also revealed this timeline.
On October 4th, Jalen Hurts was cleared during the Rams game,
but continued practicing in full.
Last Thursday, the 8th, he went
to the training room after practice for treatment,
where he told the medical staff about that injury.
The next day, he received treatment and then practiced in full.
After flying to London for the Jaguars game,
an ultrasound performed that Saturday, the 10th,
revealed a superficial blood clot.
Cleared to play on Sunday, then received treatment Monday,
Tuesday, and even practiced this Wednesday.
That night, follow-up ultrasound revealed the blood clot had moved.
It's all location-based for this.
So usually what you do first off
when somebody has a superficial clot is you kind of just rest things.
I spoke with Dr. Andrea Lovett
of Temple Health, who's a vascular surgeon.
She says superficial blood clots are generally treated
with compresses and painkillers.
But some patients may need more extensive help.
If that's the case, you could be out even longer.
The truth is it could take as long
as six weeks for everything to resolve.
Players hope they see Jalen back on the field soon.
We've been brothers for the last four years,
so obviously hope all the best for him.
Brian, this is not the same thing that pitcher Zach Wheeler had
that had him out for six months.
He had deep vein, and Jalen Hurts has what's known as artificial.
It's not as serious.
However, it can develop to more serious ones,
so that's why they are really taking this one day at a time
and being careful on how this proceeds.
We're live in South Philadelphia.

Brian.
Been a rough stretch for the Eagles.
Of course, hoping for the best for Jalen Hurts.
Thank you.
