While he emphasizes his economic record, a Fox News poll indicates that high living costs remain a primary concern for voters, creating a challenging environment for the GOP as Democrats leverage this economic anxiety to gain an advantage.
709, President Trump back on the campaign trail trying
to give Republicans a boost
ahead of next month's midterm elections.
But with the cost of living still top of mind
for voters, as we get to Alex Hoff,
Democrats say the president's message isn't matching
what Americans are feeling at home, Alex.
Alex Thomas, so good to be with you guys this
morning. Philly is my home city, so always happy to be on with you.
President Trump, he is betting his political star power
that he can help Republicans hold
on to Congress. But a new Fox News poll suggests
the economy could be his party's biggest obstacle.
President Trump back on the campaign trail
and back to making his case to voters.
Because of the price of oil,
Texas and Oklahoma and North Dakota and all these places,
we're making a fortune. But while
the president touts his economic record,
a new Fox News poll shows voters are still feeling the pinch.
59% say the cost of living
is the country's top economic problem.
And nearly three out of four voters rate the economy as
only fair or poor.
He's not even authorized to make those $5,000 payments.
Democrats are seizing
on the economic anxiety,
arguing the president's promises have yet to deliver relief. How many
other promises has he made in these last two years where people have
not seen anything delivered on?
But Republicans insist the president's economic
agenda needs more time. He's fighting for the
American workers out there.
He knows people are suffering. He's trying to do his best,
but it's going to take some time still.
And with control of Congress on the line,
Republicans are counting on Trump to energize
their base. No one is better
than President Trump at bringing out
the base and articulating why he's
president and why he won. But
Democrats say the president's presence on
the campaign trail could work in their
favor. I think that this is a real
problem for the Republican candidates
that are on the ballot because
I think that's how many people
are voting, like he is on the ballot.
And the White House is pushing back on
concerns about inflation, pointing to wage
growth and the president's tax cuts. But
But just weeks until Election Day,
the question is whether voters will buy that message.
Alex Thomas.
Yeah, that is the big question.
Well, now I'm curious.
The countdown is on.
Yeah.
Where's your hometown?
Oh, I'm a South Jersey gal from Lumberton.
But, you know, I worked in Philly for six years.
I miss it all the time.
You can't replicate the people anywhere else.
That is true.
And the cheesesteak.
Oh, yeah.
Well, we're certainly glad to see you.
And, yeah, you'll have to come back and visit sometime.
Sounds good.
All right.
Thank you, Alex.
Thank you, Alex.
