Temple University says it's investigating
a reported rape at an off-campus apartment building
near the campus in North Philadelphia.
And Shanette, this all comes at a time when sexual
assault allegations at colleges are in the national spotlight.
Yeah, Jason, it is concerning
to students who say it could happen on any college campus anywhere
and they want more awareness.
This is the off-campus housing where a rape
is reported to have happened. Temple University's
Department of Public Safety daily crime log states
that a report was made yesterday about
a rape that happened over the weekend
at 2:30 Saturday morning the report says it happened
inside the University Village residential facility
at 1701 North 10th Street Temple said in a
statement that we reached out to get Temple takes all reports
of sexual assault seriously whether
they occur on or off campus it goes on to say
because this incident occurred at a private
off-campus residence it is being addressed through
Temple student conduct code this process allows
the university to investigate allegations
and hold students accountable under university policy
tonight we talked to students about the report
of a sex assault some were aware others were not but
all we talked to are concerned including students
from another nearby university it's very scary to
know that somebody in the building
is you know going against somebody's consent i think it's
scary for me as a woman a young woman
at that my mom found out on Facebook and then called
me today about it um but i didn't see anything
from the school any emails or anything um and it
definitely is really worrying because i mean
a lot of people live here we have security guards
for a reason and she was definitely worried about it Adi Patel
and Krish Patel are freshmen at
Drexel and say they heard about
the reported sex assault i think it's a problem on all campuses it
could happen anywhere whether you're in the city you're
not in the city we just heard about the
the big Cornell case that just came out
and there's a lot going on behind that
so like I just feel like we should
be more aware of this as a community. A
Temple spokesperson says
the university recently created a sexual assault
advisory group after recent national
headlines raised important questions
involving the process of supporting victims
and responding to incidents. And
back here live Temple says that it issues a TU alerts for incidents or
emergencies that pose a hazard
or immediate threat on campus or within the
University's patrol zone. Sheba, Seanette, thank you.
