A donated instrument becomes more than an instrument,
it becomes an opportunity.
We are delighted to introduce to you
the Robert Franz Play It Forward Instrument Lending Library.
We will begin by inviting our community
to donate instruments that may be sitting unused
in closets, basements, or attics.
Working together, the WSO
and the Rotary Club of Canada South will help ensure that donated
instruments are assessed, cleaned,
repaired where necessary, and prepared for their next
chapter. Once an instrument is ready,
it will be cataloged into the Windsor Public Library system
where community members can borrow it using their library card.
Just like borrowing a book,
you can request an instrument
and have it delivered to the library branch that's most
convenient for you. Someone
who has always wanted to learn an instrument but couldn't justify the
cost of purchasing one will now have the opportunity to try.
Today I'm donating a silver flute. It was
passed on to me by my mother.
I think it's a great opportunity for everyone else to get the chance to
learn as well. I feel blessed to have something like
this in my family already for so many years
and how grateful of an opportunity is it for me
to be able to see not just one person but our
whole community have the opportunity to use it as well.
As a parent intuitively I knew that music
was really important for brain development
and so I enrolled them in music as soon as they were old
enough to play and that's been part of our life ever since.
Really any instrument is great. It all
you know functions the same way in your brain.
It helps to engage both hemispheres of your brain
simultaneously. This program brings together what each
of our partners does best. The Windsor
Symphony Orchestra brings expertise in music,
instruments and the importance of music education.
Rotary brings its incredible ability
to mobilize community members around a shared goal of making
a difference.
And the Windsor Public Library brings
its expertise in lending, connecting people with
resources and making those resources accessible to everyone.
