Everyone, of course, was asking us, like,
oh my God, you were just with Whitney the
night before.
Like, how was she?
We're like, she looked like she was on top
of the world, like feeling her best self,
which made us, of course,
divorce and separation is heavy and hard, but it made us feel good
at least that you seemed like you were in a good place with her.
Right.
Was it indicative of how you feel about
this decision to file for divorce?
Like, you feel good about it, right?
Yeah.
I mean, I'm the one who filed.
Right.
I made a choice, and you see it play out through the season.
It took me a long time to get here.
Right.
I mean, because even having that conversation with Heather in San
Francisco, it seemed like you still didn't know what she wanted to do.
It was like you could go one of two ways.
And at the end of the conversation,
Heather was like, you know, remember how you
and Justin decided to make it work last time you were in San Francisco?
Hold on to that energy.
Was there a part of you that wanted to hold
on to the energy and try to make it work?
Or do you think you decided?
It sounds like you were doing all the work for that.
Yeah.
No, I definitely wanted it to work.
I can sit here and say I gave it my all.
Yeah.
I've tried everything.
It's one of those things.
It's very sad and hard.
I am glowing because I'm finding happiness and peace.
I have peace in my heart through all the chaos.
It's sad.
It's devastating.
I love Justin.
I love my family.
And now that we know I'm getting divorced,
he and I are still focused on the kids.
So we're keeping it peaceful, amicable, and we're co-parenting well.
So it's sad.
but yeah i gave it my all i wanted it to work
but hey but also you have to choose yourself at a
certain point you know what i mean
and it's a thing to of course divorce people look at it in
different ways it's not like it's a failure
or something it's just something worked for a while
and now you have to do something else that works
for you both separately well and you have to
really consider how i was raised my mormon roots yeah i even
though i'm no longer part of the
church i've been out of the church for 20 years
and i still have that mormon programming running
in my brain that you don't get divorced like you're you don't
do that to your family and i
grew up in a divorced family i grew up with a you know
a childhood that was hard so i did not want
to do this to my kids but at some point i realized okay
that's mormon programming get that out of
your head right that's not true i felt i get called selfish
a lot for wanting a divorce the society
labels you that people label you
that and i realized it's actually more selfish of me to
stay in a situation i'm not happy in right
and also like subject your kids to an unhappy household
yeah you know how are your kids feeling about it how
are you talking to your kids about it
my kids are so amazing they they get it they're 16
and 13 right bobby's my they're both my best
friends i'm very close to my kids yeah that's
so sweet and that's what i've dove into during
this process is business and kids and also it's a thing too
because people always say they want to
like you know protect their kids
and everything kids are smart so like they're aware of stuff
like i'm sure when you guys were talking about
everything they're like ma we know oh yeah yeah
but i don't know why i pushed off the converse i pushed off doing it
and having the conversation
with them for so long i think me choosing to leave
the home yeah like separating and nesting
we put that off for so long because i'm
so scared to tell the kids but once i told the kids they're
like thank you oh okay wait that's amazing they're
like we want you happy we want dad happy want you
happy and so i think that bobby and brooks are fine
because they have two parents that love them
yeah that's all you can ask for and that's more than
a lot of kids have yeah and at 13 and 16
they're definitely aware of what's being said
on social media are they watching the show
have you seen bobby out in my comments
no is she clapping back at people oh is she mama's defender
she is my little warrior princess redheads
are fiery they are she's my daughter yeah and she's
bobby rose i had to like say okay no more oh my god
but that must have felt good you know to know
that she wanted to clap back
at your haters yeah it makes me feel good but i also don't want her
to feel like she has to do that like i'm
in the public eye she's not and so that's the hardest
thing about being on a show is your kids
are subject to what you what i go through but no
my kids are fierce i wouldn't mess with them we talked
to heather last week of course when she
she was promoting her book
and it was unfortunately timing wise the same day
that the news broke for you
and she wasn't really sure you were going to do
that or aware of it
did you kind of need it to be a decision you privately made before like
talking with your friends?
Yeah,
it was out of protection for my family and my kids
I,
I keep it pretty guarded and close to,
I hold it close to my chest to protect my kids and to protect Justin's
ability to be amicable and co-parent.
And I'll,
honesty i don't know i didn't know it was going to hit
because i thought it was going to be sealed
the filing but the judge denied
that motion you can actually see it in the filing so i was i woke
up after the event to all of that right the timing
was kind of insane have you and heather chatted
since yeah just to text she's still busy on her tour yeah yeah
so but you're good yeah i mean
it's one of those things where i just honestly i thought i
was going to be able to keep it pretty
private but do you think the judge denied it
because you are a public figure i don't know i
i spent a lot of time talking to my attorney about it
and like even post malone he couldn't get his
custody um case sealed
so it's a utah thing i guess okay yeah i mean it's public record but
it's not like i got arrested
or like i didn't do anything to harm the public i'm just getting
divorced yeah okay it was kind of frustrating
because i didn't i didn't expect that um i
probably would have waited until after,
but it was kind of a blessing in disguise
because it was like divorce,
and then we hate Whitney because she's a bad friend to Kwai.
So it kind of got like swallowed up by the toothbrush.
