Day 13, Landon says no place he'd rather be.
With more than 600 kilometres behind him,
and nearly $50,000 raised for Autism Nova
Scotia, Landon Smith is getting closer
to finishing a run to the top of Cape Breton
Island that honours one of his family members, his nephew Weston.
I just wanted to bring awareness
and some funds for Autism Nova Scotia to help it with
other kids and try to make some type of an impact.
Smith set out at the other end of the province
in Shelburne County with the goal to raise
$5,000, but through community support, Smith has smashed that goal.
The money will go towards Autism Nova Scotia's summer camps,
which creates a safe camp space
for kids with the disorder.
I'm pretty blown away, pretty ecstatic about it.
I can't really wrap my mind around it yet, but it's pretty crazy.
The road hasn't been easy.
He's walked through rain, wind,
and since he's got to Cape Breton, he's fighting more
of an uphill battle.
But he isn't alone on the journey.
His family is driving alongside him for when Smith needs a pit stop.
Both his mom and brother can't believe the support he's received.
I just cry.
It's humbling
and very emotional.
We come from such a good area.
Everyone's so giving and their hearts are so big.
Everywhere we go, there's someone who's stopping by,
giving their support, whether it's someone
with a child with autism, or it's friends from away,
driven up four or five hours to
hop in and run.
Meanwhile, Autism Nova Scotia is grateful for the support.
Every year we have the camp, and we do,
as I say, have it in different locations, but
we always have a wait list for it.
So this is significant funding,
which is going to help support more folks to be able to come
to camp.
There's still more than 100 kilometres to go for Smith,
but he's feeling positive
about the rest of the way and the impact he's made.
