This new patient is a 39-year-old man.
He's a relative of the patient zero, this man who
traveled from DRC to Kenya
and who died of Ebola here in Nairobi last week. According to the
Ministry of Health,
the two men came in close contact and that's how he was contaminated.
Still according to the Ministry of Health,
he developed the first symptoms while he was already
in quarantine here in Nairobi.
He was experiencing joint pain, fatigue as well as fever and that's
That's how the doctors discovered that he had Ebola,
so he was tested and the test came
back positive.
So he was transported to a designated facility where doctors have
been trained to treat Ebola
patients.
Now, there are two good news.
First, his chances of recovery are pretty high
because he was attended very early after
the first symptoms occurred.
And then, since he was already in quarantine
when the first symptoms appeared, he did not
contaminate anyone here in Nairobi,
so the chances to be contaminated here in Nairobi
remain very low at the moment.
But despite that, the Kenyan government wants
to reassure the population that it is ready.
241 beds are available for Ebola patients
in different hospitals across the country,
the Ministry of Health is still tracing contacts of the patient zero.
128 people have been
identified so far but 15 of them are yet to be found.
So the Ministry of Health is calling
on Kenyans to remain calm
and to visit nearby hospitals as soon as they experience the following
symptoms in order to avoid an Ebola outbreak in Kenya.
These symptoms are fever, fatigue,
joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea and unexplained death.
