When fighting broke out in Jenina between
the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces
and the Sudanese army, Hussein Ismail was captured by the RSF fighters.
For at least five days, at night,
a man came into the room and raped me. Then he left,
and another would come in and so on.
To this day, I still have severe pain in my legs.
Afterwards, they simply abandoned me in a school and left.
That was when I started losing my
memory for months i couldn't even remember my children's names
since the conflict began in 2023 systematic rape has
been used as a weapon of war on a scale never
before seen in Darfur
the NGO Handicap International provides psychosocial support
to victims of war crimes
although the organization cannot initiate legal proceedings itself it
contributes to the collection of information
that international justice bodies can draw on.
We use these testimonies in our advocacy
so that the working group can help us share them
with decision-makers and donors,
without putting the people we support at risk.
Despite Chad's brief withdrawal from the ICC,
the Chadian League for Human Rights continues
to investigate war crimes committed in Sudan.
Its work continues in Adre, a Chadian town on the Sudanese border
that hosts the country's largest refugee settlement.
While the Chadian League for Human Rights condemns
and regrets Chad's withdrawal from
the International Criminal Court,
Omar Yacoub still believes prosecutions will go ahead.
Chad's withdrawal from the ICC will not stop justice from being done.
If someone commits a crime in Sudan and then comes here to hide,
thinking they can escape
trial, they are mistaken.
The government, meanwhile,
says ongoing ICC investigations that require Chad's support
will be able to proceed to completion without restrictions.
