***NEW*** How to Create a Warm Fall Dining Table Without Traditional Fall Colors

Eyeballing this chandelier for a while now place Okay, okay look Hello design lovers and welcome back to creating with Mimi well If you've been searching for a decorating video for inspiration But you're tired of seeing tables filled with orange pumpkins overly themed a decor and Decorations that only last for or just a few weeks. This video is definitely for you Today I am sharing with you how I approach designing a sophisticated Tablescape one that feels elevated Timeless welcoming and warm one one that works from the first day of fall Through Thanksgiving and you could use the same tablescape for Christmas if you decide to as a designer I don't decorate just by placing pretty pieces out or on a table. Every single piece has a Purpose and every single layer creates balance Every texture it contributes to the overall feel of the tablescape or the room so throughout this video I'm going to explain directly why I selected each piece and how I'm going to style each piece So if you're excited about interested in that type of video Go ahead and get you a cup of tea sit down and enjoy what there is to follow. Let's go Whether your table or your dining room is modern Traditional timeless our formhouse or what I like to call modern formhouse All of the things and principles and techniques that I'm sharing with you today will help you create The table that feels very intentional instead of just cluttered or curated with pumpkins Now I've decorated with pumpkins in the past completely but I try to choose pumpkins that have a neutral color base and not too much of Pumpkins that actually have like the orange or the fall seasons. I Continued and I kept my white sofas. So still the majority of this space is like It is still white it is still crisp and that's why I'm calling this design that modern formhouse look Well another update that I added to this room Let's take a look at this gorgeous table with the new color One of the first techniques or or principles that I utilize in decorating a room is I try to look at that room in its Natural state and oftentimes there's tons of furniture or things that are around Even in my own home all my rooms, you know, there's you can get to the point where some of your rooms are junkie So that is not what I'm saying but one of the biggest decorating mistakes that people make is just focusing on the one thing and Ignoring everything that surrounds the place so we've been into this fall decor setup and decorating for fall with lighting a Furniture decor pieces for a minute, and I'm just gonna bring you guys into the kitchen Yes, you are looking at a different color table than what I previously had. This is not a new table because this table Is a keeper This puppy is solid she extends over 85 Inches in length and I am definitely going to keep her But I always had that in mind that even when I bought the table that was like an off-white I love the table because it had the wood grain coming through it and it was just so earthy and natural for me I think I had that table for two or three years I've switched out and I switched out the color. All I did was chalk paint it I didn't put this online or I didn't record it because I just wanted to get it done So I chalked paint at the table and now she is this rich chocolate almost mahogany Undertone that I'm simply loving because guess what? I decided to do is a warm up the space instead of it competing with the decor That's on the table as part of design this Large piece that's darkened it immediately grounds this room for me the dark wood has a way of making your space feel established or sophisticated and non-trendy Another update that I added to this room are these gorgeous new dining chairs They are fully upholstered in a beautiful light neutrals. These chairs are slipcover. You guys know I love a good slipcover. I searched long and Wide for this particular chair, and I'm actually loving the chair Not only are the chairs comfortable, but they've got hidden casters underneath so it makes Transitioning a lot smoother in and out and I reduced the amount of chairs for the space and I'm only at it Six chairs instead of the eight and that's based on the size. So my guests can easily move their chairs Without dragging them across the floor and it makes for an entire dining experience that feels Effortless, let's take a look at these fabulous chairs as I bring them into the space Next up I'm sure you've peeped out that this Fabulous light above me. It is sleek black linear and this chandelier is drop-dead gorgeous Eyeballing this chandelier for a while now and There's so many variations with it and depending on the variations determine the price So I kept looking for the variation that would suit my needs and what I purposely Wanted it to look like so this is a 12 light Sleek black modern chandelier and it suits Perfectly over this new dining table and I'm saying it's new because the color is new and it feels fresh So it is new to me and with all of the other Accents that I have in the space with the black the warmth of wood all of those textures and this is amazing it also creates a beautiful modern Contrast to what's going on around me with the white walls everything in this room and now works together Nothing feels random Everything has a goal and it feels amazing Lighting is one of those things that's often overlooked, but it should be actually considered as part of the table scape Because this fixture is long and it's linear the visual stretches the room and it stretches across the table And it exactly what I need and so the metal pieces with the ribbed glass Instead of it just being a plain glass cylinder. This glass is fluted, but it just looks amazing It looks stunning. It looks a luxe and I just love it Let me show you a close-up of this light fixture because I am in love with this fixture Design before you decorate So before I place a single item or decorative accessory on the table. I already know Exactly the feeling that I'm trying to create That's something that I want to encourage you guys to think about before you go shopping What is the feeling that you're looking for is instead ask yourself? What should I buy that way? You're not just picking up random things and then you get it home and you don't like it, right? You should also ask yourself. How do I want to use this in the room? How is this going to make me feel in the room? I have a tip and I say if I can design it or if I can use it or think about it in three different ways It goes home For this room. My answer to all of those questions was I wanted it to be simple. I wanted it to be warm I wanted it to be relaxed sophisticated. I want to have an organic vibe Inviting and I wanted something timeless and I literally hit each and every one of those checkpoints With what this tablescape is going to look like every decorated decision will support those words When you begin to decorate with emotion instead of just purchasing individual objects The room and the filling immediately becomes more cohesive with one another This is another principle that I practice Restraint I have to restrain myself because things are so beautiful I just want to see it all the time But sometimes you can put too many items into one space usually when I'm decorating and I have these large Floral treatments on the table my tables minimize so it's either one or the other I'm covering negative space, which is a good part of design. Yes, your eye needs to rest somewhere So therefore I don't want to have super super busy unless I'm having a party Unless I'm entertaining or a wedding or a big party then it's all gonna be over-the-top everywhere You look it's going to be gorgeous. It's going to be beautiful. So that's the exception but for this everyday table I am allowing portions of the table to remain Visibly empty for a purpose. So this will not be an over decorated table today Foundation to the table is everything that is the next tip whenever I'm designing a room I start with the largest pieces first or the largest areas the sofa the rug the cocktail table Those are very large pieces today instead of covering this table with the tablecloth I'm gonna allow the finish to remain exposed Why because I think this table is beautiful by itself. It is a masterpiece It is a statement by itself the warm wood tones it immediately Establishes for me a color palette this dark brown is my color palette The first thing I'm going to start with today is the centerpiece This centerpiece I really thought about and Many people assume that one large floral arrangement Automatically creates the most dramatic impact, but I'm going to show you guys something a little bit different today With the centerpiece that I'm choosing sometimes that's true right depending on the size of the table the shape of the table if it's a round table than one large floral is It that is the impact so I'm creating five separate moments across this linear table And I think it's going to be fun. I'm using five sculptural vases Yes, I will link the vases for you guys because they're stunning and as always once they're gone They're gone They're not that tall and they're not that big and that's because of the overall simplicity that I want this table to actually have Let's take a look at how I'm setting the table up All right, these are my centerpieces Look how gorgeous this is Okay, I'll give you guys a close-up Look at this You've got all of the textures this texture into the shape here The top of it. It's just so organic and Light I'm going to I actually have six of these one is a little bit larger, but I want to keep this very seamless and I want it to just speak volumes in Terms of the table in itself being the art piece. I think I'll sit one here I'll sit one here and I do need to line them up and The last one I will sit down here alright, so this time around I only added six chairs and One reason being I want to really utilize this banquette area because I can get one two Three four people to sit just on this bench alone and I want them to be uber uber Comfortable and so if I add a chair here It kind of gives this make this area a little bit stiffer a little bit smaller To maneuver through so I didn't want to add a chair here and I'm loving that that that element that I'm changing Okay Let's talk about these chairs and how I am loving the fact that they are so Comfortable and just relaxing and lounging and yes, they are fully upholstered. That is okay Because they're slip covered. I don't even know if I mentioned that earlier Everything can come off and it can be washed The other thing is I've already added my fabric protector spray that I have I Live by this stuff and I tell everybody about this fabric protector spray because I love it that much I have it for the outside as you can see that sofa is still out there. It is white. I have one two three white sofas Chairs tables everything outside is white But once I use this protector on it Even if it gets soiled I can just wash it and it will come right off before this I had chairs that were oh, I can't even remember Okay, I had All of the chairs were light in color. These last chairs that were just here were white and I sprayed They were in the dining room and I sprayed them. This is the thing It's not like I'm going out buying new furniture for every season. I had purchased these chairs a year ago And I just stored them I actually I purchased them a little bit over a year ago and I'll just store them until I get ready to use them or The other thing that I know that I have the advantage of doing is I place things into my clients homes so I really get to see how things are working and how it Progresses for a space how it maintains and handles in the space because you know a client's gonna call you And they're gonna say I don't like the chairs that you place into my home and with my clients They literally don't see the furniture pieces that I'm selecting physically most of them Until install day or after install day They trust me and they trust my expertise and guidance that I give them examples of something But the final choosing of materials or the final choosing not necessarily the material stone is different I don't place stone into a client's house until they approve it because that is so permanent It's not like a chair. So I will have them approve different stones back splashes Sinks things of that nature, but the decor portion of it tables chairs faucets Lighting all of that stuff that makes a room. It's chosen without their consideration and they Absolutely love it. I have not had an install where a client told me Oh, I don't like these chairs or I don't like this lighting and I'm not bragging I've just been blessed in that way that my clients are completely satisfied with the products and materials that I place in their home Back to this because I can go on and on these chairs so far have been durable For me, I am loving this combination of having this light And so now you guys get to see that having the dark table with light chairs What I'm placing on top now you get to see what I'm saying When I explain to you that this is this is a focal point by itself I don't need necessarily a tablecloth. Now. Will I use a tablecloth? Yes There are some applications that I absolutely want to use a tablecloth But when I stained this table and painted this table dark, I had this concept already in mind These were purchased some time ago when I saw them I knew that I wanted to use them on a dining table again. I go back to that matrix How can I use this? Can I use this in three different locations for instance this I can place in the cabinet behind me And I know this is a whole nother video But I can place this in the cabinet behind me and it is another moment It is a moment of design that I will actually love and appreciate This table and the centerpiece by itself. It is a moment. I really don't need to do anything else with it I haven't decided if I'm going to add floral to the centerpieces but I'll make that determination once I start setting everything up and Seeing how I actually feel with it And if I do add some floral it will be that moment where I add the seasonal decor I've already shared with you guys some of the seasonal decor that I've used this year Throughout my home and the seasonal decor that frankly is everywhere. So I hope you guys were able to grab some of these pieces because the floral becomes another layer of texture and Notice that I'm not Overcrowding each vase. I'm just keeping it simplistically and sometimes less is truly more The next element or the next tip I would say it would be to layer your dinnerware Now we move to my favorite part of the entire table and that's the dinnerware So for today's design, I've selected these gorgeous brown plates They the plates are so beautiful. It looks like you want to actually eat it. Okay, that's how gorgeous they are Brown is having such a huge moment in interior design. We're seeing it in furniture. We're seeing it in wall treatments We're seeing it in cabinetry paint colors Textiles and we're seeing it in accessories What I love about the brown and the chocolate brown is that it feels earthy without feeling Trendy right it pairs beautifully with creams with ivories olive greens burgundy taupes Brass other wood tones. This chocolate brown is going to wear for a long time in this space with design I think I'll probably have this table this color for at least four or five years And then I might go back to the lighter color I don't know but as I place each dinner plate on the table Notice how the light shimmers down on the dinner plate and the placement and it becomes the focal point Because my table is super long it's over eight feet long scale matters Scale matters So I'm choosing a larger plate and a larger bowl to create more of a visual weight for the table These larger pieces help anchor each place setting and they also create a luxurious Feeling before anyone ever sits down. Let's take a look at how I layer the table with the dinnerware Okay today I am using a placemat Keep in mind that this table looks gorgeous without the placemat I don't need a placemat for this table setting I can just place the brown plates on with some beige napkins and it would do the trick these placemats that I picked up because I like what they do for this season and It has like a brown on brown tone floral the trim. This is scalloped. The trim is scalloped So there is a shape that I am Complementing the vase with so I will place the placemats here. Oh That looks lovely I'm only setting up six place settings today But I think I have eight to ten of these placemats and these will become my everyday placemats for This table, it's just always comfortable to have a placemat for me I don't necessarily want my skin to just touch wood We sit under the air conditioning when we eat so that we're comfortable. Sometimes these things can be a little cold So to warm it up I'm using the placemat the other thing that I want to share with you guys instead of using a placemat I could have run a runner on each end of the table So one runner here and one runner on the opposite side instead of doing I might do that a center design There's so many ways that I can actually use and run with runners or tablecloths But for today, I am merely just going to utilize This placemat and I love it because of the floral And I think I'll sit my extra here on that end of the table oh gosh This looks so fabulous To it just I don't know It's just beautiful for the fall and it just looks amazing instead of having I wanted something that had texture I wanted something that had a little bit more of a color a tone on tone just to add layers Instead of it just being a plain beige Tablecloth because this is everyday for me. This is not for I'm not setting this table up for entertainment I'm not setting it up because I'm having the girls over or I'm having a party. This is just an everyday family Look, all right. I decided to go with this brown plate and it is Gorgeous, I think I mentioned it before I want to eat the plate. That's how beautiful this plate looks Let me share it with you guys It's it's the perfect color brown and it's got indentions specs the the indentions create a Spackle effect, but this plate looks so organic and so natural It makes it look like it was Hand-carved so I'm gonna place Okay, okay look look at this combination look at this combination together This is so beautiful. Oh Gosh, okay. I am loving these brown plates. These are my forever keeper. I'm gonna keep these plates I want to keep these plates. I want my granddaughter to have these plates because I think that they are beautiful No, I don't really get into a lot of fine China. I have fine China that Was given to me as gifts But I don't necessarily want to see or serve with fine China every day This for me is so organic like this is me This is to have something that looks beautiful and it looks like it was Handmade is something that I would cherish So let's place that there We'll place one here and then the extra I will put over here I'm just standing back and I'm looking at it from this point and it's stunning the Contrast the texture that I'm creating with this tablescape and these placemats It's like art This is truly like art. All right, let's keep going These bowls are equally as beautiful now with this color and this set and design You can get the bowl a deep bowl like this Which I love because if this becomes my everyday bowl right now I have white bowls for every day But this may be become my everyday bowl meaning that I would grab this before I grab anything else okay, I'm gonna set that just like so and Okay, I'll give you guys an overview as to what this looks like but it's gorgeous Oh, I meant to say I started off saying this this bowl comes in two different shapes You can have the deep bowl or you can have the flat bowl. That's over exaggerated well for me the Over-exaggerated bowl took up too much of the plate and I wanted to see This effect I wanted to see the plate I wanted to see the bowl and can you imagine your first course? Are you serving soup? Clam chowder in the winter time with some nice warm bread and I can taste the clam I can taste the shrimp. I can taste the lobster Okay I'm a foodie. Yes. I am a foodie. I can taste it and This so I'll place the bowl and I'm placing the bowl Directly on top of the plate instead of having a napkin underneath it I really want to hone in on that brown color. I really want to hone in On just what this is doing for me having this tone on tone for the plate This color is just it's just rich. It's a rich color and I'm loving it I know that I share it with you guys. I think last year that brown was coming back It's one of my favorite colors this tone the set and even though I do a lot of pink floral Can you even if I put in pink with this and I haven't decided if I'm at floral to this or not I may but I used to have a brown dining room I did and I think I had a brown office where all the this was before we were color drenching This this was 20 years ago The entire room was brown and it was so gorgeous every time I walked in there. I absolutely loved it Alright, so that's my table set. That's my dinnerware my bowl. I'm gonna add Glasses to the table. I think that is the next element that I want to add and I have a treat for you guys with the glasses All right Okay, these you guys are not gonna believe this gorgeous glass here it's from Target Target when I saw these glasses, I was like, okay. All right Okay, so I can't put them in my basket right now, but I got to come back and get them. They are so gorgeous So I'm gonna place the glass Okay, calm down Come down. Okay. Let me give you guys a close-up of this glass because If you got can you see let's see Yeah Look at this It's fluted and it's so Delicate to me. It's just gorgeous and I um, I will place tall glasses anywhere on a table I Think that's just gorgeous So I'm gonna place that there There is nothing wrong with having your Extra glasses or extra dishes that you want on the end of the table especially if you have a dinner party and you're not sure about how many guests are going to be arriving and You just want to have it quick or if you have a smaller location and you want to place Your plates on the end of the table just so that you can have easy access. So I have two extra place settings So if anybody else wants to pull up the place sets are here Come on, get your food come and eat enjoy and it's not that big of a deal People don't feel like they are invading when you have that All right. The next thing I'm gonna add is Candles, I want to place candles around and I'm not gonna do I don't know if I'm gonna do table lights At this this time because I don't know I oh I could bring in my black table lights I could do that, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna bring in table lights I'm gonna keep that open, but I know I want to bring in candles so I'll start with my two largest candles first and In terms of size and I'm gonna place that right next to My floral treatment or right next to my vase and it's not Necessarily in the way of these people eating These two people having a conversation. So we're good all the way around and that's what I'm checking for right now. I Won't place too many items on the table because I want to keep it to a minimum and I just want to let the flatware Take center stage to be honest with you. I don't even think I'm gonna use the taller candles I'm gonna go get my smaller candles and I'm gonna put those up. I Just have to have candles at a table setting so these I will bring out and Just gently place because I don't want the candles to take over. I Only want them to act as an accent on the table almost like a pair of Shoes, so this is the size I think I've linked these below and they come in this size bottle already The candle is inside of here. This is the way it actually comes. I will link that For you guys because I think they're so easy to do and it's just gorgeous I'll bring in some smaller little tea lights that I have in glass and that I just kind of go around I'll place a couple here and go around my actual vase just to give it a little bit more texture Just mixing this up a little bit. And these are the small tea lights. You guys can get these anywhere and I'm just sitting them strategically placing them around to add a few more areas of Candlelight Not a big deal All right. So this is the majority of how I want to set up. I would probably go with just basic Silver flatware for this table setting and that's only because I don't want to compete with the gold since this is real basic I don't want to compete with the gold But I do want to add a floral treatment because I'm not having any height right here I'm not having any lights. So I do want to add a little bit of my floral. Let's do that Now it's time to add in some florals and I think this is gonna make this table scape Really really pop. This is what I meant by adding in seasonal floral without it screaming The season, you know with the orange so I wanted flowers that immediately said fall Without relying on the bright oranges the overly themed colors just for my table setting Just for what we're doing This season for the next couple of months okay, this is what this is gonna look like the florals become yet another layer of texture and I want you guys to Notice that I won't overcrowd the table because I don't want to take away from my vases But I do want to give a just a little color to the table, so Let's see what it looks like. And I think I want this color you Yes, I know that I want that color. I know that I want that. I am just going to gently play This table looks so organic. I'm going to just gently place this and this is on wires Inside of the vase no big deal, right? It's kind of looking like it's being grown right out of the vase That's what it looks like to me. You can take off the leaves if you want if the leaves are a distraction It's not for me. I'm okay with it. I Love this fact of repetition that's going on in the space I'm just repeating the same floral. It just creates rhythm on the table The only thing that I'm doing is varying the way that I'm laid laying this inside of the vase That's the only thing that I'm doing if you guys follow me on Instagram. You've already seen this floral and I hope you can get your hands on some because it is really truly truly pretty and Very simplistic. This is a table that I'm creating Yeah, you will see this type of table creation in like a model home or if you go into your local Pottery barn crate and barrel you'll see a table set up like this Because they're giving you or the store or the venue or the house the model home They want to give you an idea of how you can live in that space as well I've gone on and on and on about this table, but This is it This is it. I've created one of the most beautiful tablescapes. I think that I have ever created Now that everything has been laid out and layered together. I want you guys I'm going to give you an overlook of what this table looks like and How the dark table it anchors the room right the light placements Brighten up the dark table and the setting that chocolate dinnerware is just coming through and Providing so much richness the upholstered chairs Soften the overall look right and the black chandelier above overhead. It's just screaming luxury All of this was done on a budget literally Nothing on this table is super super expensive. The light fixture comes in so many different Variations the candle light that I place on the table. It introduces the warmth. Nothing feels like it's Overwhelming on this table, even though I've switched to a dark brown table Nothing competes with one another for attention everything compliments The element of what was put together Together I created one cohesive experience Alright now that my tablescape is completely done The only other thing that I want to do is I do want to add some cushion some pillows To this seating area back here just so my guests can be comfortable when they sit back This is a pretty deep seat and I don't want people leaning against the window So I'll have this Pillows or I have pillows that I will place here and they can actually just lean against and rest their back against the pillow So this is the first one. I'm keeping it to be pretty neutral and it really ties in with the Placemats that I placed out and the only other color that I'm going to bring in to Contrast and have a little bit of variation from the brown is this cognac color All right, and this is the pillow. I've shared this with you guys. I think I have shared it with you guys I bought like two to three sets. I think three sets of this pillow. I love it I only bought one set the first time and then I went back and bought a second one Then I said, okay, I need it again. I need more. So this pillow is so gorgeous. It's so soft It looks like a velvet it is. I don't think it's a velvet at all, but I'm loving that So this is the only color that I'm bringing in even close to an orange and it's really a burnt orange It's sort of like I call it a cognac color because it has a little red undertone, but I can use this For this part of the season and this can carry me into Christmas and I just love what it looks like next to this look. Oh Look at this. I hope the camera is capturing all of this lusciousness.
