This will SAVE the Broncos...
Oct 15, 2026
This will save the Broncos' season,
and we haven't talked about the defense much, which
is obviously a my bad type of situation,
but at the same time, something is missing from
this Broncos' defense that finally came around when we needed them to,
and we're hoping this
is going to continue going forward.
Everyone's wondering, why was Nick Bonitto not really producing?
Why are we not getting the same level of defensive pass rush,
like the guys who want to break
the sack record, all those different things?
it's because we have new players
and there are you know key pieces missing on this team we didn't
think it would matter as much as it is right now
but that that is the reason and so we'll be talking
a bit about Nick Bonitto about the defensive uh you know their effort
and their ability to make
tackles their ability to make stops uh how different it
is from last year all that different
stuff right here and why they will still be a huge factor
for why the Broncos are going to win games
this season. Make sure to subscribe, join the channel,
all that good stuff. And without further
ado, let's just kind of jump into this.
So first things first, yes, we are talking about not just
Benito, but like, you know, the team in general.
They performed much better than I expected,
if I'm being completely honest,
without Pat Surtain II and Riley Moss, our starting corners.
We were not allowing much scoring.
The tackling obviously could have been better, but overall,
you know against a backup offensive line we recorded 12 tackles
for loss in a single game
that's what you want that's you i mean it's you
know they they could have adjusted and they didn't
uh the chargers being and we just played our brand
of football Jai Baron, Brandon Jones obviously big
games with brandon getting his pick um but like you know
a lot of criticism was going Baron's way
and he stepped up big time didn't have
the hardest competition by any means and you know but it's
Still, you know, you can't underestimate Herbert and his talent
despite how poorly he's playing this year
and the system that he's working with.
That being said, I really do want to talk about, you know,
what is going on with just, like, defensively.
Three sacks for Nick Bonitto.
Two of them basically coming against the Chargers.
Before that, he only had, like, a sack on the season
or a sack and a half.
It wasn't looking great through the first month of the year.
everyone was like okay i like did we overpay
for Bedito i still think that's ridiculous
um you know he's not he's not averaging a ton of tackles
but as a pass rusher that's not really
your thing um and but overall like he's still doing
a good job i just it's it's really um
relieving to see him start to like ramp up like just get
that confidence back that he can you
know finish a sack on a guy like uh
on uh justin herbert even if it's against backup players
offensively um it's just you know getting
that feeling of bringing him down is going to help um
we thought we'd get more help on the other side with q robinson
and jonah ellis not really what
we were hoping for if i'm being completely honest
um so Sayer Benninger from predominantly orange said
that part of the reason why the broncos haven't
been able to withstand the losses of both john
franklin myers and jonathan cooper is the disappointing play
so far this season of jonah
Ellis. Ellis has been on the field for 174 snaps
in the first four weeks of the season, 62% of the
defensive snaps, and has had just two pressures,
one quarterback hit, and no sacks. Ellis hasn't
been able to be a consistent edge.
He hasn't been able to rush the passer, and he might be on the
bigger liabilities of this defense.
That's a huge disappointment considering there was hopes that he
could be a breakout year for this this would
be a breakout year for him um q robinson obviously
was showing up a little bit against the chargers
but ellis once again we're still waiting for
much of anything from him
and uh i was always more of a q robinson guy i see bigger uh bigger
flashes from him so um regarding
though the the the pieces that were missing is uh you know
Benninger went on to say that the Broncos are tied
for 15th in the NFL uh with the Bucks and
Bengals at a 51% pass rush win rate they ranked fourth
in the league last season the team's
struggles can be traced back to the losses
of defensive line lineman John Franklin Myers
and outside linebacker Jonathan Cooper
who uh accounted for a combined 15 and a half sacks and
31 quarterback hits last season both of them
um maybe even more importantly those guys helped
take the pressure off of some of the Broncos uh stars like
or in the pass rushing department like
Nick Bonitto specifically we're seeing Bonitto struggle
with the extra attention he's been
receiving in the absence of Cooper um which you know
this is when you get more attention
like he has gotten that is a you know
that's just something that Bonitto is going to have to
it's it's a sign of respect all things considered uh
and Bonitto's just gonna have to deal with that
going forward um you know Bonitto was like you know talking about
when facing the uh 0 and 4
Chargers he was you know very humble he said uh Herbert
is uh still there they have a lot of
weapons on you know the offense side of the ball
so in no way shape or form this is a game that
was considered to be a cupcake game
and that's what people are like we're suggesting the game was
um so he it's it's crazy because the two sacks he did get
is now put Bonitto as the seventh player
in Broncos history with 40 sacks
and he's done it at a really young age he's going to be around
with us for a while this is a franchise pass rusher
which does not come uh very easily i do
want to emphasize that uh people
who are like ah maybe we should trade him for somebody else no
absolutely not he's not Max Crosby
that doesn't matter he's still getting it done uh Benito has
13 quarterback pressures this season through four games uh
per Next Gen Stats last year he had 27
quarterback pressures uh through four games
so it's it was not obviously he had a better game
against the Chargers this was you know posted before
the Chargers game uh however you know
it's still not the start to the season he wants
and obviously the Chargers game was an improvement
but we're going to need more consistency out
of that against much better offensive lines um
you know it was posted by um uh Ian Hartwitz uh
that the top NFL defenses through four weeks uh
in terms of havoc percentage the Broncos were all
the way down at 20th on the list so this is not
something that uh the Broncos they were much better at last season
and are not doing what
they need to be doing now um you know
with Benito essentially by himself and i i underestimate i
thought like that a Q Robinson um was going
to provide basically what you know Jonathan Cooper
was providing for this team i was very wrong
um i guess Cooper was providing more than i expected
uh and also i mean Franklin Myers i mean he he has
been he was a staple part of that interior
defensive line now Zach Allen
is still amazing don't get me wrong that that that has been one
of the best free agent pickups that we've ever done
but um man like Franklin Myers leaving for
the Titans i mean he got his bag
but like he might be regretting that like wouldn't you rather be on
a team that's like competing in all these big games like
the Broncos are than the team that's
still winless through five weeks uh
and looks just absolutely abysmal i hope he's enjoying that money
uh because i think that he
is regretting leaving Denver significantly right now um and then we've
we've had to replace him we got Unyedem you know
in the third round from the draft uh one of
the few rookies that we kept on this team
from that draft class honestly uh and really in the
end the the defensive side of the ball
the only true lacking area that's really not doing
enough is the linebacker room Stranord he's fine Singleton
is getting targeted like no other he
cannot cover uh he is a great leader i i will
not discount that people want to discount that i won't
um but he gets lost something about you know just
you know being constantly criticized about his
lack of pass protection has like turned into him just
not wanting to improve on that or something
and now we're all suffering for it the pass rush
is not getting home so he is really
he needs to be better in pass protection
um or pass coverage i should say uh then he has been
because you know it's taking a little bit longer
for the pass rushers to get to the quarterback
so that that you know
and that's due to the losses of Franklin Myers and Jonathan Cooper
and i i will say if there's anyone that i would want
to you know join the Broncos like maybe if
the Eagles season continues to go downhill Zach Bond
is a name that I could absolutely see the
Broncos targeting in free agent
or uh by the trade deadline it would be negligent to just assume
Singleton is good enough to be a starting linebacker
on this team especially when we we
don't even know if Cooper's going to come back
this season I know he's like his trial stuff I
think when his big trial got moved until after the season
so people are waiting to see if like
whether uh he's going to be put like taken off
the exempt list allowed to play the rest of the
year or not so that's that's all kind of in the works
this week um but still like we're not going
to get Franklin Myers back that's that's
a known factor Cooper up in the air i would put it
less than 50 percent we get him back
so we got to work with what we have right now um and i i mean while
i trust that Benito will have big games i'm
not as worried about that as other people are um i was
hoping for more out of the other side of things with Ellis
and Robinson and i'm not giving up on
them by any means
but uh it's a little bit concerning how little we've gotten from them
so I'm curious what you guys think about all
this are you concerned like I am about the lack of
production from the defense uh in terms
of sacks pressures quarterback hits um are tackling issues
at moments I mean again the defense is on the field a lot
so I can't expect too much out of
them they play with a lot of tenacity
and ferocity i am not putting this on Vance Joseph i think he's
been a fantastic defensive coordinator for us
however is there areas that we can improve
absolutely you know if if we are going
to be playing this poorly offensively for our long
stretches of the season the defense has
to be amazing they cannot be average like the stats
are showing right now they have to be in the top 10
so uh and that might show its ugly head
against the Seahawks on Thursday night we will see I hope it doesn't
but I just want people to
be prepared for that so what do you guys think
about all this shout out in the comments down
below and until next video I will see you then
