Tonight, two young kids are on their way back
from Ohio after they were allegedly abducted by
their own father and smuggled across state lines.
That father later taking his own life.
There's a lot to unpack here. Let's
get live to Fox News' Jessica Dupnik.
She has the very latest on a story that we've
been following all night. Jessica.
That's right. We have been tracking this one, Rupin.
We're happy to report that the four and
six-year-old little boys are safe tonight.
We checked in with Inkster Police. They were sending
folks down to Ohio, Norwalk, Ohio.
That's just near Sandusky to go bring those boys
back home here to Inkster.
A little bit of activity out here behind us. We'll let that pass.
I want to show you where this all started earlier today in Inkster,
in an Inkster neighborhood.
Apparently, the suspect, the man you spoke of there earlier,
Rup, he broke into his ex's home.
he pistol whipped her, tied her to a bed,
and then abducted his two little boys, again,
four and six years old. Now, while this was all happening,
he was telling family members that he
had the boys at Rouge Park in Detroit
and that he was having suicidal thoughts. Well, that was a way
to lead investigators in the wrong direction,
but it did lead to a massive manhunt in Rouge Park
earlier today. Come to find out,
officers were able to use flock cameras and other investigative
tools to track these little boys to a cornfield in Norwalk, Ohio.
Now, sadly, they were able to
FaceTime with those little boys.
Investigators were, and the boys said, we're in a cornfield
and dad is dead. And they said that he was shot in the head,
later learning that he died of a
self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The positive note here, those boys are okay. We talked to one of
the lieutenants over at Inkster PD today about the whole situation.
I can tell you that I spoke
with a social worker at a local hospital
and the nurses and social work staff were with the
children and were actively monitoring them
and giving them care and support. They were able to
speak with their mother and establish phone contact home
and know that they're on their way
home. Inkster police chief saying earlier today
that the reason for all of this the man was upset
over a breakup with the child's mother
and that's what started all of this. Now at last check with
Inkster police they were headed down to Ohio.
The boys were getting checked out medically. They are
okay and then they'll be heading back here
to Inkster at some point this evening to be reunited
with their family reporting live
in Inkster, Jessica Dupnik, Fox 2 News. I'm glad those kids
are physically okay but that trauma
that they may have gone through uh you can't even imagine
the fact that this father apparently took
his own life there's a cell phone they're left there in a
cornfield to fend for themselves yeah
and the chief we asked about that, he said you know that
FaceTime call just putting yourself
in that situation these little boys don't know where
they're at. They're in a strange place.
And obviously they witnessed in some capacity
what had happened to their father.
We really are thinking those little boys tonight.
We certainly are. Jessica Dupnik,
thanks for us live tonight in Inkster. Thank you,
Thank you, Jess.
