And the faces of the major feud between boxing
and MMA is Dana White, who's the CEO and
president of the UFC, and Oscar De La Hoya,
former boxing champion, who is also the president
of Golden Boy Promotions, and he's the manager of Ryan Garcia.
So here's what happened with the feud.
Now, they have always been feuding
because Oscar De La Hoya likes to talk crap about
MMA, UFC, but Dana White in particular.
Dana White's always said that boxing has gone down
the tubes, and he points to people like
Oscar De La Hoya as a promoter, as an example.
But the feud came to a head recently during the Ryan Garcia-Connor-Ben
fight, which was put together by Zuffa and was aired on Paramount.
And Dana White had a lot to do with that.
Now, Oscar De La Hoya represents Ryan Garcia.
Correct.
Now, Oscar De La Hoya was supposed to be at the fight,
but he didn't show up at the fight.
How come?
Because he was afraid.
He said that he was afraid that he was going to be set up, meaning he
was going to show up to the fight and he was going to be embarrassed.
Either they were going to put him in a weird seat
or not give him access.
Are we getting, like, paranoid, coked out, Oscar de la Hoya?
That's exactly what it was.
So, Dana White, if you can pull up the Latin Nation story,
Dana White actually talked about it.
Yeah, I have it here.
He actually talked about it.
Now, can we play it for a second?
Let's play it.
Let's see what Dana White has to say.
Oh, we don't get audio there.
Oh, we're not getting audio right now?
Technical difficulties because we're doing it live, my friend.
That's fine.
I'll give you...
So, you can see him talking basically...
Please, paraphrase for us.
Absolutely.
So, basically, Dana White says
that Oscar de la Hoya is out of his mind.
Yeah.
He had a ticket.
He knew what he was going to say.
He had access to the VIP area,
and he was going to be walking out with Ryan Garcia.
But Oscar De La Hoya got all paranoid and didn't want to be embarrassed
because even though Ryan Garcia is his fighter,
he really didn't have anything
to do with putting these fights together.
And now Zuffa is also putting together
the Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua fight.
Yeah, a big one coming up.
Now, the other promoter,
the guy that represents Anthony Joshua, who's Eddie Hearn,
Who is also a rival of Oscar De La Hoya
Within boxing
Is now teaming up with Oscar
To basically talk ---- about Dana White
And trying to keep him from
Taking over boxing
The way Dana White is saying that he's going to do
Do you feel like boxing needs
New blood per se
In the promoter side of things
Because here's what UFC did right
UFC would get the best fighters
To fight the best fighters
Whereas in boxing they protect fighters
They have the star fighters fighting cans
for the most part, basically, fighters that aren't good
to make sure they stay undefeated
to then have one big
money fight at the end. But then, it's kind of like
what happened with...
It's kind of what happened with Floyd Mayweather
and Manny Pacquiao. They end up making
these big fights later on in their careers
instead of allowing them to fight in their primes.
So, the UFC model is
forget about keeping them undefeated.
We want the prime fighters at all times.
At all times. So, that influence, you know,
and the way they put together the fighters, the way they
produce the fight from top to bottom is changing.
