All right, we got to get into the news of the day as Montez Sweat has been suspended per Brad Biggs for the next two games for violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug substance policy. That means that he will miss this Sunday's game versus Atlanta and the following Thursday's game versus New England. And now, number one, right, the first thought that pops into my mind after everything that I talked about on this morning's episode is, are you telling me you were using PEDs and you still couldn't make an impact? But we don't know what substances it was. We don't know how he was, you know, I would assume this was using them to get yourself back healthy, to help you to recover faster, right? And you end up getting popped off on that. But bottom line of all of it, you hate to see it. You hate that he, I mean, there's a part of you that kind of just hates that he got caught. But then you look at, okay, well, what does this mean for the defense in actuality? Because like I said this morning, Montez Sweat has not been a major factor for the Chicago Bears team over the last, you know, four or five games. There's only been five games in the season, but we've continued to have pretty much the same conversation about Montez Sweat to this point. He's the 16th highest paid edge in the NFL. He is the third highest-ranking cap hit among the edge market in the NFL, and yet he has the 32nd most pressure rate with a 10.7 pressure rate. You're not seeing enough from Montez Sweat. Yeah, maybe the sack numbers make you feel better as you continue through, but for the most part, this is something where, you know, as far as impact on the defense, having that go-to guy, I think what this changes a heck of a lot more is. shamar turner is now a name that you probably see brought up maybe the chicago bears end up having to add somebody uh to the roster because what you're not going to see is the Bears put Shamar out there and just say hey it's all you full regalia we're going all in with you no matter what get out there and make an impact he hasn't practiced enough he hasn't had enough of those uh he hasn't been a part of this system enough for the um the two years that he has been here but what i do think this speaks to number one is hey Austin Booker you talked about getting more snaps i don't know if you guys saw a big shout out to Herb Howard for putting this information out there on the twitter site he said Austin Booker said you know he's just hungry for more snaps he wants to get more snaps and he knows that more snaps mean more production he got more snaps and you saw the production go up he is at four and a half sacks now and he said did something change was there something different that happened in your game and he said no i just got more of an opportunity I got more sacks well now you're going to get the most opportunity you are the number one you are the one and by the way this might have been the case anyway Bears fans like if we're being real honest about this this probably was the conversation no matter what you're the guy on the scouting report that they're paying attention to four and a half sacks on the season have been able to get pretty consistent pressure even in some of the worst defensive line situations and now you know we've been talking about who's that guy opposite Montez Sweat what realistically the conversation is Who is that guy opposite of Austin Booker? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below on that. Do you feel like this is a moment for Austin Booker to really take off and really plant his flag and say, I am the number one defensive end on this team that this team has been needing and all I needed was the opportunity to show it because you are going to get to prove that this week. Now, what is going to be very interesting is you're going to have to watch closely to the injury report, because what I would assume you're going to see is somebody who has been better on the interior than the exterior. And Daoud Dengbo is going to really get that that opportunity is going to really be the one who you say, hey, you're going to be playing the edge. We want to mix you in with Shamar. We're going to rotate you in and out. and over the next couple of weeks you're going to get to prove kind of are you worth the big contract that the Chicago Bears gave you but what I love about this is you get an opportunity now to see okay number one who is Austin Booker number two how's DA going to mix and match without Montez Sweat on this defense because that's something that we have talked about in the future that probably is going to be the case and now with the PED situation next to his name as well as you head into the offseason it'll be very interesting to see what the bears end up doing with Montez Sweat if this is a player that they view as a part of their organization moving forward if this is a player that they view as as a real part of the winning process defensively because you know as much as you want to say oh this is a blow for the bears over the next two games is it Montez Sweat has not been impactful in the run game Montez Sweat has not been impactful in the pass game it's kind of crazy that off of PEDs you also still weren't impactful but maybe this speaks to Montez Sweat still dealing with some kind of injury that he was trying to overcome and need a little something extra to try and help him with but either way the bottom line here is that you're in a situation now where your young players have to step up I would assume you're going to see Shamar Turner activated off of the PUP list he has to be activated before the 15th anyway so that is one that I kind of thought was going to be activated no matter what but if he is a full go yet again how much of that snap share does he get is he the guy that you look at and you say hey opposite Austin Booker we view you two as the future and maybe this is a turning point for this Bears defense if you can find two diamonds in the rough it's going to be very interesting to see how they utilize this i think that you know a name that is kind of going by the wayside and the snap count would kind of dictate why as well you haven't seen a ton of him uh on on the high snaps every single week but this is a moment for me where hey because you've got to move Dayo Odeyemi outside Jordan Vandenberg where you've been buddy what are you not showing in practice that isn't getting you back on the field here during the regular season i think that this is this is also a moment for Jordan Vandenberg to be able to step up for Jordan Vandenberg to be able to show hey i can get in there with James Lynch and shine in the middle if you have the talent this is the time to prove that you have the talent you know what like i want to say that this is a big a big blow to the defense i want to say that this is a big loss for the defense but it's very difficult for me to feel that way when again i keep i keep going back to it Montez Sweat just has not been the Montez Sweat that we thought that he was going to be coming back in this season let me know how you guys feel like i said in the comments below i'll be down there talking with you guys as well as always it is your boy Pat the Designer back at it again y'all stay safe out there Chicago Bear down one love and uh appreciate everybody who showed support again as i said through this tough time with the breeze man you guys came back and rocked out with the morning post heavily big shout out to you guys man bear down one love peace
