This Is Downright LAUGHABLE...
Oct 14, 2026
This is downright laughable as the Vikings
are eyeing a shocking player to provide further
wide receiver depth that the team felt was needed,
but has generated a bevy of embarrassment
from fans, and Kevin O'Connell addresses
the most underutilized player on the offensive
side of the ball in trying to get him more involved.
We're going to break down all of that in this
episode of Vikings Digest, but first, you
guys are crushing it lately with the subscriber count
and new viewers, as we are just over
50 subscribers away from hitting our goal of 5,000 subs,
and as well as getting closer
to our other goal of eclipsing the subscriber count
of Vikings Digest as they are just over
or just under a thousand subscribers ahead of us right now
and it'd be really cool to jump ahead
of them before the Vikings come out of their bye week
so if you're part of the 90% of viewers
who are not yet subscribed you want to help us reach
that goal make sure to hit that subscribe
button and the bell icon so you don't miss any of the episodes
when they drop and with that let's
hop right into the first topic of the video
which is the Vikings workout Juju Smith-Schuster as
Tom Pelissero reported this earlier today,
and I just absolutely was laughing my butt
off because I couldn't believe this was real.
I thought it was a joke, honestly,
when I first saw the tweets about it, and then I
saw, oh wait, this is Tom Pelissero reporting this,
so this is actually real, and I can't
believe the Vikings are doing this,
not because I think it would be a great acquisition, but
I think that this is just absolutely hysterical,
that you're bringing in a guy for a workout
that is known more for dancing
on opposing teams' logos than scoring touchdowns.
If you guys missed our short
that we posted earlier today reacting to the news,
you can go check that out on the channel.
It was a little more heated, but I think that this is just hysterical
that Nolan Teasley somehow thinks that Juju Smith-Schuster
is an answer at wide receiver four,
battling it out with Odell Beckham Jr. to see who is going to make it.
And again, I think that at best,
Juju is going to be a practice squad guy
because again, when you look at his stats,
this is a guy that is clearly past his prime
and doesn't really have too much more to contribute.
He had some really good seasons early on,
and he was able to kind of have some contributions
in Kansas City, but again, this isn't a guy
that's going to come in here and do anything
special.
When you look at his playoff stats as well,
kind of rode the Kansas City Chiefs coattails
to a Super Bowl as well, and didn't necessarily have
to do much in the playoffs when, again,
in Pittsburgh, it was the only time that he really
was able to have any playoff performances.
But again, why are you even considering this?
Again, even if he has some gas left in the tank
or has some talent left, you really want
take a chance on a guy that has this much kind
of media stuff around him where there's going to be a
whole narrative about it and again we don't want
Minnesota we don't want people talking about the
Minnesota Vikings for the wrong reasons we want people
to be talking about the best aspects of it
and bringing in a guy who's good for the team bringing
a guy like this who is known for not
necessarily the best of things on and off
the field i don't necessarily think this is a smart
move for the Vikings
and i really hope this doesn't go any further than a workout again i
I don't think that Vikings necessarily need to make this move
because you have Juwan Jennings in there
who hopefully will get involved more.
You have Deshaun Jones who made a really good play
who I thought was going to get released by the Vikings
because of the whole suspension thing.
But he made a really good play on Sunday as well, getting involved.
Then, of course, you've got OBJ who's trying
to get thrown into the mix there
and have a rejuvenation with his career.
So again, it doesn't necessarily make sense
as to why the Vikings are bringing in a guy like Juju Smith-Schuster.
But hey, gives us something to talk about and something to laugh about.
it's just me hoping that they don't actually go out
and sign this guy and just bring him in here
just to give him a little bit of false hope
because i absolutely think this would be a terrible move
for the Vikings and just a waste of money
if we're being honest this guy like this probably
bring maybe a league minimum i think he's a veteran
so you kind of only have to pay about
a million dollars but again that million dollars feels like it could
be used towards something else
i feel like that would be a little bit better maybe some stuff
for the equipment room or some
stuff within the facility or stuff for the stadium
for that matter just reinvest that million dollars
somewhere else you don't need to go and get Juju Smith-Schuster
but let us know your guys's thoughts
down in the comments below if I'm being
a little bit too reactionary about this or if you absolutely
agree so that's going to take us into the second topic of the day
which is getting Jennings involved
as Kevin O'Connell was asked about
the wide receiver depth in the wide receiver room as well
saying that the one thing that jumps out right now
we've got some versatility and depth inside that
room and when asked about Juwan Jennings said what
I would say about Juwan is that he has done so many
things that maybe don't show up in the stat sheet
that's impacted us really being able to be a
little bit more effective with running the ball even
though we dealt with some injuries at that
running back position tight end position
and o-line position Juwan has played a big role in that
and again this is almost similar to something like
a Josh Oliver where Josh Oliver is a tight end but
he's not necessarily a pass catching tight end he's
a run blocking tight end probably the best
in football at doing it we don't have him
for the rest of the season I know but this is a fair
comparison in the sense that what he contributes
to this team isn't necessarily going to show up
on the stat sheet and I know as a wide receiver
your job is to show up on the stat sheet I totally
agree with that but sometimes we see some wide receivers
that are much better at being run
blockers than they are pass catchers again they're just playing
a position where genetics didn't give
them a big enough body to play offensive line
but they can utilize that as well as catching the ball
when they need to for being a wide receiver I'm
not saying Juwan Jennings has stone hands by any
means I think that they just have not found a way
to get him involved in the right way and I think
it is coming but at least he is contributing
in the run game in Minnesota being able to run
at a very high clip and now suddenly very effectively
and hopefully even more effectively
once Jordan Mason comes back from injury after the bye
but Kevin O'Connell did continue on
Juwan Jennings saying I do believe opportunities will come
and I do believe a play style standpoint
and a mentality standpoint it's going
to be a positive having him in that huddle and still
early on in the season i know as a coaching staff we'll use
this week to try and find different ways
to get him a little bit more activated
and we know that he has been busy with Minnesota Vikings
because he still has even though his stats
are really not very good from a receiving standpoint
five targets two receptions nine yards he has run 111 routes
which is the second most routes run by
a wide receiver on the Vikings this entire season
so he's not like he's not getting involved or
isn't out there getting reps he's getting a lot
of reps out there he's running a lot of routes
it's just he's either not there on the reads
or just isn't getting open i don't know what it is
but i'm really hoping that Kyler Murray can kind
of develop a little bit more of a connection with
him and again this is going to be a slow building process we just saw
on sunday that hey now he's
finally getting that connection
with Justin Jefferson where he trusts him to throw it in
hey if it's triple coverage down there screw it Jet
is down there i can just throw it in his
vicinity he's going to come down with it even
that catch along the sideline that one-handed catch
he saw he was covered basically perfectly
but you know Justin Jefferson has the best hands in the
NFL so all you got to do throw it up near where
his hands can reach it boom he's going to come
down with it so now you got that connection building
a little bit more he already started
building it with Addison while Jefferson was out
for a bit you already know he's got that connection
with Parkinson and now we have the bye week
for him to develop that a little bit further with
Juwan Jennings as far as a wide receiver depth
with coming back off the bye Kevin O'Connell
was saying that it's going to be huge for them
as he was saying that I think as a whole right now
we feel pretty good about the depth
and just different skill sets the special teams aspect
that we've seen from that group and then
also knowing we should be in a good position to have
a 100% Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison back in the lineup as well
which will be huge for us
and of course again that'll
also be the biggest thing for this Vikings offense going forward
is having Justin Jefferson having Jordan Addison
hitting TJ Hockenson back as well because we found
out that okay he's just got a concussion we're going
to be good on that got a video coming on
that as well to bring to you guys as well as all
the stuff that Kevin O'Connell covered in his
presser because he was up there for about 25 minutes today
and a lot of that was coach speak
but he did have a lot of gems in there like
talking about the Juwan Jennings side of things
I really do hope Juwan Jennings is able to get more involved
because I think he's being very
severely underutilized in Minnesota this is a guy
that last year was asked to step into a
wide receiver one role in San Francisco
and was really good at it and Minnesota runs a very similar
kind of offense then Kyle Shanahan is running in San Francisco
because him and Kevin O'Connell
come from that Sean McVay coaching tree naturally they
are going to adapt a lot of those
kind of play schemes and personalities well I mean Sean McVay came
from Kyle Shanahan but you guys
know what I mean in that sense
but I think with you bringing Juwan Jennings in here you know that
he can run in this kind of offense
and can contribute as well so now it's just a matter
of getting him those opportunities building
that connection with Kyler Murray and that trust so
that Kyler Murray can throw it up near where his area
is at and force it and not force it but slip
it into those kind of tight coverages
and make sure that he's getting involved in getting those
passes and opening up this Vikings offense even more
because we are seeing the stepping stones
in the beginnings of what this offense offense
for the Vikings is supposed to look like and if
it's getting like this more
and more every week we could be seeing the late season form of this
Vikings looking the best that it will be all year
and that is exactly the right time that you want
it to happen as you're gearing up for a postseason run
and have the team fully clicking and fully
healthy and that is hopefully what the Vikings can
do here let us know your guys's thoughts down in
the comments below as that's going to do it
for this episode of Vikings Digest again thank you
guys so much for liking subscribing hitting that bell icon
so you don't miss the episodes when they
drop now I've been your host Griffin take care
