But first, the Department of Homeland Security admitted ICE agents took
immigrants they arrested in September to a Roxbury warehouse before deportation.
News Twelve's Chris Keating outside of that facility.
He has more on why this is controversial. Chris.
Good afternoon. The use of this warehouse out here on Route 46 in Roxbury
by ICE agents defies a federal court order, one in which a judge said
that this property should not be used until an environmental review is finished.
However, we have learned that ICE agents took 14 people
to this warehouse on two separate dates.
That was the 4th and 8th of September, following arrests in nearby Dover Township.
This information comes from New Jersey Congressman Anna Lilia Mejia,
who was contacted by Homeland Security concerning this matter.
A federal court had ruled at an earlier date that this site
was not to be used until after that environmental review.
The congressman told us through a statement, "This was no accident.
ICE officers deliberately misled the municipality
and state by conducting processing operations with supervisory knowledge."
This all came about after reports from family members of those detained.
They reported their loved ones were taken to Roxbury and once processed
at this site, they were then taken to detention centers like Delaney Hall.
Before this new information came to light, New Jersey's attorney general had
been investigating complaints from those family members.
Now, all along here, Governor Chell has been reviewing and what these people have
been complaining about, and she even had her attorney general file a lawsuit saying
that this property does not contain the sewer or water capacity needed
for immigration processing that would be needed by Homeland Security.
In the meantime, we have reached out to the Department
of Homeland Security for more information on this.
That's the latest in Roxbury. I'm Chris Keating, News Twelve, New Jersey.
