How to make the best Chowder from Animal Crossing Pocket Camp
Warm your bones with a hearty chowder you can make anywhere...even in the wild! Here's how to make it.
What You Need:
Milk Roux:
4 TBL butter
5 TBL flour
1 12 oz. can evaporate milk
2 TBL parmesan cheese
2 TBL cream cheese
Root Veggies
4 carrots, diced
4 small red potatoes, diced
Aromatics:
2 TBL butter
1 medium onion, minced
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
3 stalks celery, minced
2 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp black pepper
1 TBL chicken stock base
Salt and pepper to taste
Liquid:
3 cups water or broth
Optional additions:
2-3 cups cooked meat or veggie protein, large dice
For Milk Roux: In a large saucepan, melt butter. Add flour and whisk until combined. Cook for a minute or two. Slowly add in milk, whisking out all the lumps. Once it comes to a boil, remove from the heat and add parmesan cheese and cream cheese. Whisk to combine then set aside. Place in a small tupperware container.
Slice your veggies and aromatics. See the video to see how to achieve hayashi cut. Place aromatics in one bowl, the aromatics in another. Place meat or veggie protein in another. If cooking in the wild, place them in leak-proof containers.
In a large pot, place the contents of your aromatics container and cook over medium heat. Let it cook for 5-8 minutes or until lightly brown. Add root veggies and your liquid. Bring to a boil and cover. Cook on low for 20 minutes or until veggies are cooked.
Carefully ladle in bit of broth into the milk roux. Whisk until smooth. Add the sauce to the pot and bring to a rolling boil. Cook until desired consistency is reached. Stir in meat and stir until warmed through. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Ladle into bowls and serve hot. Recipe by Jammy Cooks.
