Jai Srimannarayana, once there lived a king named Tirumal Raya.
He liked to be flattered by others.
In those days, kings used to have men just for writing
and showering the words of flattery by means of poetry.
For that purpose, they used to be paid
and were honored by means of gold ornaments.
During the reign of Tirumal Raya,
there used to be a poet named Hemachandra.
He did not like telling lies.
and exaggerating the matters.
But he wanted to take gifts from the king through his poetry
in a very convincing manner. One day, he went to the king.
Unfortunately, the king was blinded in
one eye. In case Hamchandra had declared about
his blindness directly through his poetry,
no doubt the poet would have been banished from his country.
At the same time, he did not want
to tell a lie. Then, Hamachandra applied his presence of mind,
sang a song in praise of the
king, where the blindness of the king was revealed indirectly.
Let us know the summary of his song.
Maharaj, if you sit with the queen, you are just like the lord Shiva.
If you are alone,
you can be compared to Sukracharya, the guru of demons.
You have vision in one eye,
Otherwise, you would have been Dhritarashtra, the father of Kauravas.
Conveying that meaning, he read a poem.
The king was very much pleased when he was compared to the lord
Parameswara, the great Sukracharya and the king Dhritarashtra.
So far, nobody praised him in that way.
Feeling excited, he honored the poet with valuable gifts.
Do you think the poet broke his principle by telling a lie?
No, he did not.
He spoke the truth about the king's blindness indirectly.
Let us see the inner meaning of his poetry.
Hemachandra compared king with Lord Parameswara,
who is called Trinetra, when he was with the queen.
Two eyes of queens and one of his, so he had three eyes like Trinetra.
When he was alone, he had only one eye,
just like Sukracharya, who also had only one eye.
If the king had not had vision even in one eye,
he would have been compared to Dhritarashtra who was completely blind.
In this way, the poet spoke the fact in a very soft
and in an impressive manner.
Thus, our negative comments can become good compliments.
That is the power of words.
Thank you.
Jai Srimannarayana.
