Alaska's Most Brutal Hike Almost Broke Us!

RV Trip Across America
Oct 7, 2026

We took on the Harding Icefield Trail in Kenai Fjords National Park.. one of the most incredible and demanding day hikes in all of Alaska! But we weren’t doing it alone. We brought all four of our kids.. including our 3-year-old, to see just how far our family could make it. Starting near Exit Glacier in Seward, Alaska, the trail climbs through dense forest, past waterfalls, into exposed alpine terrain, snow and ice, avalanche areas, and huge views over Exit Glacier before reaching the Harding Icefield — the largest icefield entirely within the United States. The full hike is roughly 8 miles round trip with around 3,500 feet of elevation gain, (12.9 km length with roughly 1,067 m vertical.) This is part of our family's journey RVing Alaska in our 45-foot Foretravel motorcoach, exploring Seward, Exit Glacier, Kenai Fjords National Park and some of the wildest places we’ve ever taken our RV. Can our family make it to the top of the Harding Icefield Trail? Watch to find out. 👀
