As autumn begins, Chinese tradition describes a shift from outward activity toward gathering, conserving, and settling inward.

In this video, we explore how this seasonal rhythm is reflected in traditional daily routines: sleeping and rising earlier, calming the mind, conserving vital energy, and adjusting our inner state to the changes taking place in nature.

We also look at the Chinese character 安 (ān), the relationship between autumn and 肺 (fèi), the lungs, and the traditional philosophy of 五行 (Wǔxíng), the Five Phases. Even the changing clarity of water across the seasons offers a way to observe how Chinese thought connects human life with the larger rhythms of nature.

Tea, incense, and meditation then become more than individual practices—they are ways of slowing down, gathering the spirit, and returning attention inward.

This video is adapted from a HECHINESE members course exploring Chinese seasonal wisdom, traditional philosophy, and the relationship between human life and the natural world.
