Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer follows the life and career of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a brilliant American physicist who becomes one of the key figures behind the development of the first atomic bomb during World War II. The story begins with Oppenheimer’s early academic life and his growing reputation as a scientist before he is recruited to lead the secret Manhattan Project at Los Alamos, where he brings together some of the world’s greatest scientists to develop the weapon before Nazi Germany can do so. after the successful Trinity test, the United States uses atomic bombs against Hiroshima and Nagasaki, bringing the war with Japan to an end but leaving Oppenheimer deeply troubled by the consequences of what he helped create. The film then shifts between different periods of his life, showing his changing relationship with the U.S. government, his opposition to the development of the even more powerful hydrogen bomb, and the political accusations surrounding his past associations. Eventually, a security hearing damages his reputation and removes his influence in government. Through Oppenheimer’s story, the film explores scientific ambition, political power, moral responsibility, and the devastating consequences that can come from changing the course of history.
