Russian attacks on Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight killed two people, including a child, and injured seven others, Ukraine's State Emergency Service said on Wednesday. In Kyiv, one person was killed and four others were injured, while fires and damage were reported in several districts, affecting private homes, a warehouse and a nonresidential building, local officials said. In Vyshhorod, north of the capital, a Russian missile strike destroyed a private home and killed a child, while three other people, including another child, were injured, officials said. The attack also sparked fires and destroyed eight garages. Ukraine has been working to counter new jet-powered Russian drones that fly at speeds and altitudes that can make them difficult for ground-based air-defence systems to intercept, prompting Kyiv to develop faster interceptor drones, although producing and deploying new weapons can take months.
