Founded in New York in 1871, The Photographic Times was one of the most influential photography journals of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Published monthly, it served both professional and amateur photographers during a period when photography was rapidly evolving from a scientific process into an artistic and commercial medium.

The magazine featured technical articles, equipment reviews, photographic criticism, exhibition reports, industry news, and reproductions of notable photographs. It also documented major developments in camera technology, printing processes, and photographic practice, providing a valuable record of the medium's growth.

By the June 1909 issue, The Photographic Times had become an established authority within the photographic community, reflecting the changing tastes, techniques, and ambitions of photographers during photography's formative years.
