AI GeneratedThe speaker explains the loss of lumber volume during the milling process, specifically how 5,000 board feet of raw material is reduced to 3,800 board feet. This reduction occurs because planing a one-inch board down to three-quarters of an inch removes 25% of the material, which ends up as sawdust.
Everybody wants to know, how come I'm taking 5,000 board feet and turning it
into 3,800? Here's your answer right here, because if you think about it, you're
taking your one inch board, you're planing them down to three quarters,
you're taking 25% of the material off your sawmill and sending it over here to
the dust pile.
