Just When I Thought My MOM Forgot Me… THIS Happened 😭 #dementia
I’ll never forget this moment.
We were live on TikTok, and Mama said my name.
It’s been months since I’ve heard her say it. Months since she’s known it.
And when I tell you it made my whole day — I mean it. 😭💜
I rushed home to tell my husband!
It’s moments like this that remind me: she’s still in there.
We talk so much about the losses that come with dementia — memory, language, awareness — but there are still flashes of light.
Even though she didn’t remember her birthday on this day (which she usually knows), she remembered me.
That meant everything.
And here’s what I believe:
She may not say it, but I think she still knows some things.
A part of me thinks she doesn’t stay at my house for overnights anymore not because she can’t — but because, in her own way, she’s choosing what feels right to her.

I try to honor her independence, even in the midst of decline. Because this journey is about grace, love, and letting them be who they are on any given day.
