Making the Best of a Difficult Diagnosis | A Day in the Life of a Dementia Caregiver
Dementia is a horrible diagnosis, but every day doesn’t have to be a horrible day.
Come spend the day with me and Mama as I make a Walmart run for snacks for her and some of the other residents, share a little love around the memory care facility, and take Mama out to IHOP for some good food and quality time.
Then it’s back to the facility where Mama and I do what we do best—cut up, laugh and enjoy each other.
This is the real side of dementia caregiving. Yes, there are hard days. There is grief, confusion and loss. But there can also be laughter, outings, good food, playful moments and JOY.
I can’t change Mama’s diagnosis. But while she’s still here, I can keep finding ways to make the best of the time we have.
If you’re caring for a parent or loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia, remember: every good moment counts.
