The portrait hadn't seen the light of day for nearly 100 years 😮 ASMR!

Today, I would like to share the complete restoration process of *Portrait of a Boy* by an unknown late-19th-century artist. A comprehensive set of restoration procedures was carried out to return the painting to an exhibition-ready state.

The work involved removing the canvas from its stretcher, repairing tears, correcting canvas deformation, and consolidating and stabilizing the painting. The edges were lined, the stretcher was repaired, and the canvas was re-stretched onto the original stretcher. Restoration ground was applied to areas of paint loss, and surface grime and old, darkened varnish—along with overpainting (later additions not made by the original artist)—were removed. Areas of paint loss were inpainted, and the painting was finished with a new protective layer of varnish.
