The '50s and '60s sportscars of the Sussex Trophy are rightly a crowd favourite here at the Goodwood Revival presented by Dunlop. Tojeiro-Jaguars battling Jaguar D-Types and Lotus 15 is Goodwood bread and butter. This year, the racing was as superb as ever and we even had Chris Harris and Marino Franchitti racing a gorgeous Maserati Tipo 61 'Birdcage.'
Time to relive another epic.

Today at the 2026 Goodwood Revival and we are racing for the Sussex Trophy as they get going.
45 minutes on the clock everybody away and well look to the inside or ahead already goes Grimes
into the lead holding on from Paul into Magic Corner we go all neat and tidy car out wide though
further back picks up a bit of the grass that's Pearson in the detour Longbow still out onto the
does so everybody clears him as well all clear out on track we go yeah but Tati didn't get the
best of starts has sunk down into the pack maybe sharing that car with William Nuttall that we
just saw in the previous Richmond and Gordon Trophy but ideal start from our race leader
at the moment as they're filtering through all keeping fairly fairly close together and fairly
kind to each other as they filter through they're aware that it is a 45 minute race
so there's no point to do any silly moves the six though going down the inside that's
our one of our Dajero Jaguars McCrae and Cottingham car this on board then with the
the flat iron the Lister Jag all over the back of the 66 a little further back or at 66 actually
up in started up in fifth losing a bit of ground up into second place great start for the second
the Lister Costin Jarvis in the 54 getting the jump on Cypher Sam's Lister Jag and Knobbly which
has just lost a position but really Bonomi Grimes from Pole in the Lotus 15 doing what he needs to
do and already starting to extend that list excuse me it's Ben Colbert apologies in the Lister Knobbly
looks up into second spot and now looking to try and close in on our leaders as we go side by side
this is Hanson and the Lister Jag down the inside of McCrae's Dajero Jag can the Dajero hold on no
the Dajero Jag trying to make a move to the inside now the 144 side by side with the six
the Dajero Jag on the inside back through and up a place yeah the 56 great start started down
in sixth place so Colvin sharing that car with Colling Turkington to a box at some point to hand
and the top two are starting to escape a little bit up the road look at the sector to seal the
Grimes car that has the fastest overall everyone's just trying to swap themselves out and you might
have the less experienced less faster drivers start the race they might drop back through but
then of course when they stick in the more pro drivers they'll be able to make their ways further
up the order the 71 was having a little think about going down the inside that's our Jag
D type Longos the Pearson and Suzuki car they've actually had not the best of starts losing the
seven places no this fight though is one that's uh really starting to kick up a gear with the
Dajero Jag still chasing uh the uh what will be the uh top five positions in this race out in front
nearly two and a half seconds the gap uh for Bonomy Grimes in the Lotus 16 leading from Ben
Colbert in the 56 as it starts to get a little dicey down the inside through goes the 71 the D
type Longos fair few those in the fields are down the inside of Mike Rankin's Lister Jag
Costin further back in the pack yes so the 71 of Gary Pearson on board that at the moment the 1955
works car and having that moment of course at turn one so we watch out as they go further
up the order now the number six is trying to make gains up through having a nice battle
with the Jarvis and Malvern Lister Costin Chevrolet yeah and that is a battle going back
and forth James Thorpe as we ride on board he'll be handing over the car to Tom Christensen
when we get the pit window open in the number 16 which started in 10th spot low down the inside
that would be brave and gets a little out of shape as we ride on board looking at the car
in front dicey i'm not sure whether it was a mistake where they were intentional to go down
the inside it was going to be late late and brave but i think maybe uh it was you can just see in
the background just ducking and diving to try and pick a way through and uh they have got some spits
of rain in the previous race but it has stopped now so the Betty and Nuttall car trying to find
their way back through it has closed up though the the six on the back of the 17 so they've
cleared to the Jarvis and Malvern car and the Cottingham McKay car coming through and there's
the 41 that's pulled over on the side of the road our Lister Costin that was the Mark Donner
and Simona Di Silvestro car which actually won the Sussex trophy back in 2016 Chris Ward was
aboard that uh many years ago but not able to continue in this race these two these two uh
still going at it the Tajera, Jag, McKay uh at the wheel currently in fourth spot now actually
right on the back of Cypher Sam uh who is uh down to third position as i think we've got a safety
car out on the circuit i imagine that'll be for Donner's Lister Jag and the recovery of that
but race control says safety car there is confirmation so once all the drivers have
seen that they will slow down we'll get the safety car out on track and that'll bunch the pack up
yeah i'm just gonna try and see where abouts that car has stopped i'm able to kind of see where it
is um but obviously race control feeling that they need to throw a safety car like you said
it will bunch the the fill up so they will have to slow down um so the gap that that Bonomi was
stretching at the front will come down to pretty much zero which will be frustrating for for him
but he has of course got a very fast teammate a great combination between those two in Jolly
and a hugely experienced driver so i don't think he needs to worry too much just needs to nail the
start once we do get underway hopefully there'll be a fast cleanup and then he can take control of
this race once again and i think crucially just before the safety car that Tajera Jag
which is really making moves the number six of McKay has managed to get Cypher Sam and up into
third spot from ninth on the grid all the way up into third just as the safety car was called
tucked in behind Ben Culber then who started down in sixth in the list of knobbly up into second
and from pole then that gap now wiped out for Bonomi Grimes in his Lotus 15. Johnny Molnar i feel
like you don't need to have your fingers crossed since Bonomi's got it all under control uh fastest
lap of the race and actually that is by two well 1.1 seconds should i say but compared to the car
you can see directly behind him the 56 of the Colburn and Turkington so he's got it under control
they'll be coming around no move yet to to move uh the car stricken 41 on the side of the road
and that is on as they're just coming up to Fordwater then into St Mary's so i have to agree
that it's just sorry just the entry of St Mary's on the exit of Fordwater so i agree that's not the
no also just uh as the grid settles underneath the safety car i think James Thorpe
managed to pick off Chris Harris as well and get himself up into ninth spot the Harris
Franchitti car the number 25 the Maserati uh this is what birdcage really isn't it top down
uh a position into tenth losing positions from the start having started uh in eighth spot there it is
with the white and double blue stripes down the inside uh as it's all fun and games in the pit
lane it's all friendly here it is they look far too relaxed for me they'll be hopping in very soon
um pit window will be opening in around about six and a half minutes time just a little bit more
so uh a bit tactical as well because we've got a whole host obviously we've got on track at the
moment 24 cars are missing uh the wood one that of course it's pulled over to to the side
but that pit lane here at Goodworth's very small very tight so you need to almost keep an eye on
what the crews are doing around you if they are friendly and willing to share information they
might let you know when they're coming into to the pit so you don't come at the same time because
we got all cars coming in at once they literally would struggle to fit well they wouldn't fit in
this pit lane to pull over to the side it would be a little bit of a mess as well that's the thing
isn't it there is a huge amount of strategy involved in the Sussex trophy this year becoming
a two driver race if you all pile in depending especially on where you are you could well really
lose a lot of time way more than the 60 seconds that is mandated so sometimes it might be worth
either well either side it's taking a gamble isn't it is it coming in a little bit earlier
than you thought you might or is it staying out that little bit later also depends who's driving
the car we have a hugely talented field but some of these drivers are obviously the owners and some
are the professionals they do it day to day as well but it is an incredible uh mixture of talent
up and down the grid and they'll all have their strengths and weaknesses and those you've got
eagle eyes on our timing tower left of screen let's see the 16 keep dropping down they've got
intermittent transponder issue so don't talk to me about it transponders they'll be dropping
the name of the day don't worry it's happened to me earlier when i thought someone's dropped
down and no it has been the transponder so all the Thorpe and Christensen fans out there don't
panic it's a transponder issue for now for now for now uh five laps have passed it there is the
vehicle uh for uh the the list of costing at the back of the pack there is uh the modem waiting
to get in and helmet on so one would suggest that maybe once we get out of this four and a
half minutes or so that we're waiting for as the pit lane will open whether the number 91 car our
leader will be straight in yep so he's having a look at the timing uh timing out there to see
well who's maybe in what sort of times what the benchmark time is marshall's doing a great job
to recover the car big shout out to them we wouldn't be able to race if it wasn't for for
them their hard work and dedication being out in all types of weather luckily for them it's
no rain as forecast for the remainder of the day and i believe not forecast for tomorrow as well
that is your race leading car bonami grimes waiting to hand over in the pit lane is johnny
moland no radios in these cars because of course they didn't have radios back here in the day so
it's if you look at the pit wall as we might catch some of it but i'm looking at it as out
of the commentary box window plenty of pit bulls will be flying up and down and the hang on the
has got going so the car that's brought out the the safety car our listener maserati
has managed to get going again uh belted himself back in and it's martin die that's actually behind
the the wheel of that so we'll have to come in uh into the pits so i wonder this we've just
counted across another lap harry we should be back underway next time round yeah so good to
back going under his own steam started down in 27th and the
lister maserati but the safety car lights still on once they go out we will get back to racing
speeds pit lane is going to open in three minutes time and we'll stay open until 15 minutes to go
of this sussex trophy to round out another spectacular day here at the goodwood revival
and actually the the maserati that was on the side of the road by fred martin die
is the sole surviving works lister so pretty special car but the lights have gone off on
the safety car so that means one thing harry will be getting underway 32 and a half minutes
of the race remaining remember pit stop window open in two and a half minutes time so keep an
eye out those that might be diving into the pits early some might want to go a little bit longer
if they've maybe got the faster driver in the car so this order will start to change quite
drastically when those start coming into the pits and keep an eye on that tagero jag uh with the
number six really feisty start for the race down in six now that he's right on the back of our race
leaders on the safety car restart could be a real force in the last half an hour or so of this
sussex trophy as safety car lights have gone off and now it is all about tactics and getting ready
to really put your foot to the floor and get back going colin turkington getting his helmet
on he'll be taking over from ben colburn in the 56th the second place man i think the safety car
should have got going by now and we are back racing as we break into the chicane out of the
corner with one lap and then the pit lane will be open for service bonami grimes leads the pole
in the lotus 15 being chased down by ben colburn in the lister nobly look out for the tagero jag
though which is already showing its nose through madwig yeah this is aero jack looming large in
the mirrors of the lister chevrolet just in front gonna be putting uh colburn under all sorts of
pressure as they go down into the first part of four walls they'll bleed and then quickly
intercept mary's perfect start by grimes out front colburn having to go slightly defensive
it's gonna be brave you're gonna send one down the insides of mary's at late from behind
but looming large i think it's only a matter of time before uh we see mckay throw one down
really close under braking mckay pushing colburn almost out of the corners less than three tenths
of a second splitting the really good restart for the tagero jack but mckay is going to want
to get a move on here because he'll know that grimes is suddenly starting uh suddenly starting
to extend that gap 1.2 seconds now the race leader is out in front and there is the visible gap one
two and three with cypher sam in fourth as the lights come on the headlights come on we'll start
to lose the light gradually but we got this race underway a little earlier than usual so hopefully
that shouldn't be an issue as it was yesterday slowing it down for the chicane then out after
seven laps to complete and turn on to lap number eight how good is the exits from mckay the tagero
jack looks out to the inside line of madwig and colburn has a little look to his inside mirror
to make a move the drivers will now be aware the pit board from goodwood on the entry to pit lane
will be letting the drivers know that the pit window is open obviously going to look out for
the call from their team as to when to to come in we caught a shot earlier on of the the lap that
the 223 the dark and daniel cooper monaco t49 was doing a great job coming through we're just
being told an extra three minutes is going to be added on to the race so i'm being told uh in my
ear so plenty more racing action it's gonna be a couple of laps of course added on but still
makes a difference uh and uh staying out there 2.1 seconds the gap now out in front this is
is open and we will have actually just uh added up the time again 31 minutes and 51 seconds and
counting so we'll see what that brings but as the fan in front it's not bothering bottomy grimes who
is continuing uh to lead and here though is a huge gaggle of cars lunging to the inside uh and trying
at the wheel down in six spots as we've got cars entering the pit lane our race leader is into the
pits yes and then we're right on board here as they're going to look out to how busy the pit
lane is and how narrow it is harry there is a minimum pit stop time just to allow those that
may be a little bit slower getting in and out and also to make the drivers not rush because of how
narrow this pit lane is so outcomes bottom a great job in will go johnny adjusting the belts
sliding in quite nicely and uh it'll be a two driver two-man job to try and help them
button the drivers in mechanic on the other side and then grimes helping him strap in and they
probably think about rushing as i said there's a minimum pit stop time and it's usually plenty of
time so you might actually have to be held there for a little bit the final adjustments of the
device making sure those belts are tight thumbs up they'll then fire up the car and off they go
yeah others following suit as well coming into the pit lane ben colburn staying out though and
taking the lead and there goes uh now uh at the wheel johnny moland in the 91 back into this race
so dropping down the field should come out uh in about 16th place also following them in was
cypher sam handing over to gordon shedden uh and uh we'll all we also had in the will nuttall
batati car so will nuttall now getting in to the lotus 15 as well the cake stayed out
in the tagero jag and is up into second and there is the tagero jag seven tenths now
behind the 56 of ben colburn slightly further down the order keep an eye on the
number 60 so the number 60 sorry no the number 71 the orders changes i'm looking at my timing
screen uh it's in fourth place at the moment it's nearly set the fastest lap of the race so
looking super strong that's pearson behind the wheel of the jack d type long nose with that hold
hand over to suzuki but still the battle which is is for the lead at the moment on track
it's still range between uh colburn and mckay here is that battle though alice you were just
talking about now third and fourth and fifth actually on the road as it currently stands
as more come in for their pit stops further back in the pack so pit lane is open and we've already
added almost three minutes of time so we have now just under half an hour left of this sussex
trophy cup here comes a move uh for the race lead on track at the moment we'll see how it shapes out
these two teams still to pit ben colburn leading the race but being chased by mccague in the
tajero jack both are owed a pit stop when will they take it i think they're both enjoying their
time out on track at the moment does anybody feel into the pits at the end of this lap yes
the tajero jack bites first yeah and i'm just looking at the timing screen as well
moland and was instantly fast as if anyone in that last stage and he's literally just gone out
uh out there he is in a little bit of traffic when they when they do come back out of the pitch
you can see the signs there on the left hand side of your screen letting drivers know that
pit window is open just in case they can't spot their pit board on a busy pit wall gordon sheddon
is in the car of number 17 and we've got the 58 that's gone off that is the uh is the kelly and
chevrolet j4 uh with young and back yeah it looks like it's stopped i wonder if that might
suddenly lead to another safety car which could really turn the race on its head as moves further
back uh in the pack also coming in we saw uh the flat iron james thought handing over to tom
christensen as it all starts to shape out but staying out on the track ben colburn holding
the lead in the 56 lister nobly there is the tagero jack that has looked so quick now on the
hands of james cottingham yeah so our race leader from when we pitted has overtaken them and gone
past so moland just set the fastest lap of the race a 125.5 at the moment as that stands the
closest person to that is colburn on a 27.7 so it's two seconds quicker is our well gonna be
i would expect our race leader when we got to the end of these pit stops gordon sheddon is out there
going fast fast if anyone in the first sector he's then going to be looking to put under pressure
the hansen and mitchell car and also james cottingham in the number six yeah in terms of
feeding out of the pit lane we will have james cottingham who is about six and a half seconds back
now from from johnny moland who's now the wheel of the 91 it was the 91 car that held the lead
before pitting first so we're looking at that as the effective net lead with a six second gap
between them this is the current leader johnny ben colburn who has not pitted has a gap of 13.8
seconds and looking to come in but if we do get a potential safety car alice that could mean trouble
because you cannot pit under a safety so the pit lane will close so the longer you leave it of
course the longer you risk uh getting caught up with the safety car and then of course the field
will bunch up and then yeah it'll come into the pits and you kind of really are screwed from from
that point onward another faster snap out there from from grimes uh the jarvis and molden car is
going quickly as well that fastest lap actually from guys has just been stolen by the salmon
shedding car so they're looking pretty good in down it in 12th place at the moment up goes the
hand of ben colburn which to let everyone know around him that he is coming into the pit so
jumping in will be former touring car champion colin turkington yeah i think that's the right
move as well from the 56 just in case there was any kind of safety car i think we were getting
away with it anyway but let's see how this unfolds colin turkington waiting there as the door flies
open and then colburn undoes his belts help from the mechanic there as well takes the seat insert
nice and easy and smooth cool calm and collected from turkington as he gets a bit of help in
getting the belts done up so taking over the actual lead of the race now it's not a theoretical
lead it's the 71 the jack type long nose that was setting pretty impressive time still yet to
to pit there is a our leader once everyone does come into pit if everything runs smoothly
tucked up behind the number 74 at the moment that's our cooper jag t38 but it's yet to pit so
the colburn car still in the pits then they will have dropped it maybe slightly further down the
oil than they would have liked so our second and third technically place cards are just coming
out of the chicane now there is our current race leader but of course yet to pit as i've already
mentioned yeah so the top four really all owed a pit stop as uh oh we stuck no colin turkington
can't get out he needs to he needs to kick start i was thinking it's quite a long pit stop from
there so they're trying to connect a battery pack to to fire it up they're being told by the marshals
to stop they're going to try and bump start it are they able to do so you have to switch the car
off when you do a pit stop and of course it doesn't start again then uh you want to lose a whole heap
of time he is out of the pit but wow harry they are going to drop all the way down and look at
the time of stream down to 17th make that 18th now just losing a place to the 223 of the cooper
monaco so that has been absolute disaster and here is our race leader actually essentially coming up
to possibly lap them but of course yet to pit but they are that's going to chuck them way outside
yeah that was going so well for the colbert turkington car but that is all it takes to see
it fall away from you but all is not lost yet still 23 minutes on the clock to go for this
suffix trophy race let's see if anything can come back to them already had one safety car
who knows we can get another as the peak car and the number 600 comes into the pits so that allows
up another position in the 91 which is our effective race leader now being uh chased by
the likes of uh well was cypher sam now gordon shedden in the 17 looking to recover up across
second place early doors this is your race leader the jaggy type long nose piercing at the wheel
should hand over to suzuki once they come into pit lane that is gordon shedden
the bowman car is doing fastest lap after fastest lap at the moment sheddon's trying to rival him in
the 17 not able to do so at the moment is probably about half a second pace difference
uh for now so we got the 74 that's just pulling out of the way
the t38 jag just letting them through that far yet to pit as well so we're just going to wait
and see where colburn and turkington are when they do cross the line leaders now into the pits and
the colburn turkington car harry down in 18th yeah it's a really tough ride for that one as
our race leaders are in for their owed pit stop the driver change will then
ensue there as the 29 takes over as the race leader most of the rear of that one is another
list of jag nobly there though we are following the 91 our pole sitter who will take effective
net lead once the number 29 comes in for its mandatory pit stop and that's a special car the
number 29 is sterling moss won the silverstone grand prix sports car race in that very car back
in 1958 so hugely special riding on board though with it technically our lead car johnny mowman
behind the wheel we get a perfect view he's gonna get the car nice and straight for the
just tickle that inside curb on the right and then getting it straight and even more curve
you could say possibly on the left hand side for the second part of set marys before bleeding uphill
plenty of tricky braking zones here at goodwood and you've got to try and make try and get the
car as straight as possible for them probably the trickiest part is where the 29 is coming into now
though our list of jagger knobbly coming into woodgum how many times we see drivers lock up
and run wide there was that spots of rain on the camera lens there harry you uh you it certainly
looks like it doesn't it so i wonder if that might just have an impact in these last 20 minutes or so
we had a damp start to the morning we're expecting maybe a bit of rain today as the 29 race leader
comes into the pits hands up and ready for their driver change that should allow then the 91 to get
back into the lead of this race ahead of gordon shen and johnny molum who is continuing to put
in the lap times a 124 353 last time around miles clear of the rest of the pack only one car yet to
pit and that is the number 70 called the cooper jag down in sixth place the elecab and seleki car
so they'll happen to come into the pits pretty soon but of course as you mentioned there
in comes our race leader and that has set three our overall leader
is 14.5 seconds then further back there we've got the jarvis malvin car
the list of chevrolet costin a further 5.8 seconds back from shedding
keeping an eye on where colin turkington is recovering from and it's uh not looking great
they're now down in 15th position after that slow pit stop with an issue with the car getting back
going again and running out wide onto the grass oh just giving pause for thought there for our
race leader and now with johnny molum at the wheel a sharp intake of breath perhaps from the pit wall
they are frighteningly quick out there but they have a nearly 15 second gap and it's mistakes
like that that can cost you big time yeah the grass is wet the grass is slippy so they can quite
quickly even just dip a wheel lightly that could be used spinning round and that 14.5 second gap
would come down quite rapidly to shed them behind we're still going to get plenty of traffic
for those to navigate that's the t49 monaco the the mayors and half a car which is just being
lapped and then the 71 that was leading the race but now after having boxers trying to have a look
where they are down in 18th place so here's a replay of johnny getting a little bit too
close close for comfort on the exit of lavent oh and you can see not surprised by that reaction
from bonami at all you can see what that's done uh as well the pressure intense in the car and in
the pit lane as well but our race leader out in front then still actually the gaps come down with
that little off but 13.7 seconds to this guy this man gordon shedden cypher sam was at the wheel
to start now gordon shedden uh in the 17.7 seconds up the hill from uh the 54 car the lister
chevrolet costin that's with uh now malvin at the wheel and uh the tagero jag so quick
in the early stages with mckay get the wheel now james cottingham now just still worth keeping an
eye on that tagero jack just to see it's got uh the number one four four it's got its lister jag
knobbly counterpart for company quite close behind half a second between fourth and fifth
but your top 10 as well rounded out by marcel fastler uh down at the 10th spot check in on
a few places now and it's just on the fringes of the top 10 right behind uh marcel fastler's
lister jack costa closest battle out on circuit at the moment ben will be for fourth sorry harry
for for fourth place six tenths is the gap between the zero jagger of mccagan cottingham and then
is uh chasing them down pretty much doing exchanging personal best lap time and there
were a couple of tenths of each other pace wise so it could again come to the traffic and that's
what we're seeing on screen now just navigating past the 71 yeah that was the uh also the tagero
jag with the uh lister jag right behind it this is second place man gordon shedden loving the
hand placements of the wheel really having to wring the neck of the tagero jag looking beautiful
reunited with the goodwood motor circuit there is cypher sound fingers crossed did a really good
opening stint and actually having started in second lost the place early doors good recovery
job actually so far oh we've got a car spinning off backwards and now back on to the circuit i
the other list the jag yeah yeah and at one of every two factory 1951 lemon entries by
lister had a spin and that looked like that was at woodcock corner kicked up a load of grass
on the exit again tricky braking zone as we've mentioned riding on board with our race leader
you can see the heaps of traffic they've got to get past it's a 49 on the left hand side our t49
monaco that it nearly runs into the back of uh just to to get it stopped then slightly further
up the road is the looks like the red 223 another one on monaco t49s three second time penalty
speeding in the pit lane that's the car 141 that was the martin die car which found itself in a
but about seven laps down uh is donnie who has taken over but with a three second time penalty
now for speeding in the pit lane as the pit window is now closed everybody though has done their pit
stop in time yeah no one's going to be getting into trouble for not coming in the pits as you
said everyone has done their pit stop so gap staying around about 14 seconds out front let's
have a look a little bit further back the gaps close down between our fourth and fifth driver
past the number 14 goes our race leader he will have a little bit of breathing space before he
hits the likes of number 29 and number nine that'll be the graham moss and jack rules club
our lister jaguar knobbly of course those getting lap tarry are in their own battles
at the moment so they've got to keep an eye on the mirrors because they'll be aware that there's
a faster car quickly approaching but of course they don't want to give too much time up to the
driver that they're fighting as on the screen now number nine currently down in 11th place
is our taggero jagger of hancroft and worth nice battle though over six and seven there's not much
between uh tom christensen who is chasing down uh should be chris ward uh in the jag d type
long nose so it's the jack flat iron versus the long nose uh in sixth and seventh uh which is
looking a little bit tasty the 66 ahead of the 16 and here it is now uh mr lemon the danish
sensation chasing down uh chris ward and james thorne doing a good opening step before handing
make a good partnership these two do to success last year and closing in under braking through
the right hander and look at that the back end kicking out he loves driving it i remember the
race last year with the jango and he was always drifting sideways and it's opened up the door
though slightly but then the straight line speed comes back in the favor of the long nose
and the flat tire just has to stay back but through the corner chris ward
absolutely hanging the tail out and i think probably loving every minute of it yeah as i
said we often see him getting sideways drifting at the rear of any car that he might be driving
getting ever so close oh you can see in the background there that's just chris's style
he's having so much fun almost synchronized uh synchronized uh rear spinning there for
these two but they keep on going across the line into magic we go this is the closest battle out
on track reasonably close between fourth and minimum moment eight tenths between them but
this is less than half a second between these two jaguars in the sussex trophy here on day two of
the 2026 goodwood revival and what a day we've been treated to so far and what a treats to end
with some of these amazing sports cars reunited and back on this circuit there's a jarvis
mulvin car which uh in a bit of a race of their own at the moment they've got a 14 second gap
to the car in front and a 4.4 second gap to the chaiseiro jaguar cottingham behind so a bit of
a lonely race for them at the moment slightly further back we've still got the battle going
on for fourth place between cottingham and hansen lovely shot there as they go through woodcut
corner connor turkett is doing a good job of recovering in this race he's got inside the top
10 now uh just and is now though got a bit of a gap to close up to marcel fastler in ninth
yeah so plenty of information being passed on on the pit boards for the drivers to know how long
of the race the gap possibly to the car in front behind
still chris warne is keeping it based on christensen for the moment last time round
lap time wise they pretty much set the most identical time so pace is the same i feel
though looking and maybe christensen has probably got the the pace it's just about
over chris ward it's just about finding a way through maybe traffic could help them yeah quite
possibly tk on the hunt as we go on the inside of a bit of traffic that's uh the number two mr
jack further i think actually went on the grass harry looking at that trying to avoid chris ward
going on the outside hopefully they've recovered okay as a perfect he's never pointing straight
in a car i don't think it's almost like it's just teasing tom christensen yeah he's saying
look i'm drifting and you still can't get past up and over at the crest downhill braking
into the right hander a really beautiful example of jaguar sports cars and the different shapes
and aerodynamic philosophies but this is a really good run for tom christensen can he
keep it going this is where he gets a good run but then just we get through the left-hand king
then suddenly the long nose starts to come back but a little bit shaky under braking late move
from tk down the inside tom christensen making the move when it matters and through he spotted
the gap and he didn't need a second chance yeah fed up of waiting behind chris ward still drifting
on the outs outside of the chicane let's have a look now tom christensen's gonna know that he's
gonna have a slightly more power down the straight and that was late on the brakes and i was thinking
at one point he wasn't gonna get it stopped but he had it fully under control does christensen
gaining up a spot into sixth place for now look like chris wall just almost hit a little bit of
a bump and just that unsettled the car and that was all that tom christensen needed but chris wall
is not gonna give this one up without a fight and now the hunted has become the hunter over sixth and
seventh place this your closest battle out on track out in front the gap growing to nearly 15 seconds
now brilliant run for the lotus 15 started by bottoming grimes handing over to johnny moland
with cypher sand doing a good job kicking things off for the list of jag at the number 17 and now
handing over to gordon sheddon christensen knows he needs to try and make the great gains in the
corners because that d type long nose even back in its day had a better top speed compared to
let's say a 491 ferrari maxing out in 1955 172 mile an hour so christensen i'm sure is fully aware
that those d type long nose are pretty fast in australia and he's done a good good job of making
the most of that twistier section of the goodwood circuit in that middle sector and he's spread out
a gap now towards you can see visibly that gap just extending now tom christensen now in clear
air but you never know traffic may come a cropper once again there's the place going through followed
by the tagero jag which is uh just uh what hasn't really made through in roads but hasn't really
lost ground either stayed the same in james cottingham's hands yeah it's come down by a few
tenths and uh cottingham is a couple of tenths slower this current lap in the first sector than
so uh there's the 144 so we could with seven minutes left still maybe have a change for the
final podium positions but i feel like scott's been fairly consistent navigating the the traffic
pretty well so it's got to be a mistake or a real bad luck with with the traffic for him to maybe
lose this third place and that tagero jag at this stuttix trophy and this i mean just looking at the
different cars that we have available to us is really pushing the limits of that the backend
kicking out the driver having to work so hard on the steering wheel as through goes the the
lister jag knobbly with mitchell at the wheel i mean this is just such an interesting era to look
at transitioning through the technologies well you had that jaguar d type of the listers that
we're seeing with the sort of large capacity front engine power and then you've got the lotus 15 which
the car leading colin chapman's example of him pursuing that kind of likeness in a more lower
frontal area design and then you throw in the cooper monaco's there the maserati bird cages as
well and uh yeah you start to see the hints moving towards a more mid-engine sports car formula yeah
we've got some bad news though for the thorpe and christensen fans out there a 10 second time
for car 16 for a short pit stop and it was short by 1.7 seconds and the one car 144
as well which is currently in fifth place gets an 11 second time penalty for a short pit stop by 5.7
seconds so that will promote the lights of wards up probably yeah i would say up the order definitely
past christensen but not at the moment in front of the handsome mitchell car so those two they
were battling if it stays like this at time wide they will swap around yeah and it was 60 seconds
that you needed to do for your pit stop minimum time and it's not much but every single second
counts in racing and with just over five and a half minutes remaining it's all looking rather
good for johnny moland and bonami grinds in the lotus 15 nearly 20 seconds ahead of cypher sam
there is johnny moland and that beautiful piece of machinery you just don't see sports car like
this sports cars like this anymore and i know that's a really obvious statement to make but
nothing reminds you more of of that than when you come to the good revival once a year no exactly
that harry we've got a few more for one more penalty coming in car 600 a three second penalty
for speeding in the pit lane so they're just filtering through those penalties now as the
leader getting boxed by the 71 uh of course got a big gap so nothing to to worry about there so
that actually drops the uh so that was the 71 sorry 19th place so gap at the front last time
round pace has dropped of course from this traffic but still moaning in full control
battles further back looking how close they are tell you what cottingham has closed that gap down
to uh molden in third place so we're thinking that maybe four seconds he wasn't going to be
able to do it but with four minutes of the clock remaining and three minutes ago it was four seconds
he's at half the gap so we could have a change for the final podium paying position so brilliant
and then we'll go down the gear shifts into the braking zone but out in front 16 seconds that a
genuine x works team lotus 15 race by graham hill throughout the 1959 season this is third place
and that gap you're right alice 1.6 seconds now the tagero jag coming to life once again
in the closing stages of the sussex trophy but with three and a half minutes of traffic
right in the way i wonder if that is the reason why the gap has just come down though even more
with that traffic yeah i think so they obviously they are in their their own battle so that's a
battle that we've got on screen it's for 12th place and i uh between the 223
and the number are so as you said they're in their own battles and away from the 223 the
through scott marvin there's a little bit of breathing space for him but yeah i think
definitely traffic of course depends can be a bit lucky where you of course catch it that
gap though still showing at two seconds i think that's going to increase um when they go across
the line slowing down for the chicane one to zero jag two to ten two to zero jags but in different
one of the front one a little further back and it boiled it oh a really tight squeeze in the
middle there doesn't matter if you're fighting over a race win or fighting over 17th place
you see a gap they are going for it yes they certainly are and still they're for two and a
half minutes left to go i think that we could see him changing a place not for the top two
but looking at through the history of laps that cottingham has had
some pace over over malvin the last couple of laps again could have been traffic
but out front 16.9 seconds was the gap across the line shed and just losing a little bit of pace
compared to moden we need some a disaster effectively for either of these top two to
lose the win or a podium spot penalty possibly but i think the penalties have stopped coming in
at the moment so i think they've uh they've survived getting any penalties
here comes gordon shedden navigating the chicane for what will be the penultimate time
with a minute and a half on the clock and depending on where they are on the track once
the clock has counted down to zero the chequered flag will be out to end the days running here at
but not before johnny molum and bottoming grimes see it first in all fairness molum if he didn't
want to do another lap which of course he definitely will want to do another lap because
he's got enough time enough buffer to actually slow down to to win this race so on this lap but
of course he's not going to be doing doing that and a remarkable drive so far from pole
in the hands of bottoming grimes really good qualifying yesterday as well from then
one of the final series three type 15s built by lotus campaigned by graham hill
for team lotus in 1959 multiple wins including the british grand prix
support race raced at the goodwood tt by hill and alan stacy and it really is a rare
x works lotus with a full international pedigree which will cross the line for one more lap
so this will be the final lap and that gap between third and fourth stretched open a little bit still
keep an eye on the sectors but a nervous weight in the pit lane they don't need to be nervous
mola's got it all over the track yeah i think he just had a bit of a play with them by uh showing
off and going on the grass ever so slightly and then that had of course grimes hand over mouth
but he was all under control what a pairing have dominated this race been hugely competitive
brimes had opened the gap of course at the start then we had that safety car when it closed but
as soon as the safety car came in harry he was able to again stretch the legs and hold handed
the car over to johnny molan who has the fastest lap by eight tenths of a second to his nearest
rival so real solid jobs the last few cars for him to to land and then that'll be job done looking
to put the lotus 15 back on the top step we've had taggero jags on the trot in 2021 and 2022
with james cottingham lotus 15s with ollie brian at 23 and 24 the d type long nose with chris ward
last year but the chequered flag is there bonami grimes waiting on the pit wall
that his teammate johnny myler who crosses the line and wins the sussex trophy the lotus 15
reigns supreme once more in goodwish and coming through to take second a strong performance
from gordon shennan and cypher sam as there is movement to be had right at the line there can
the taggero jaguar find a way through third place still to be decided just the chicane to go
cottingham fancies third here he's left it all the way to the line but he's gonna run out of tarmac
and just holding on goes malvin and jarvis in the list of chevrolet costin holding on to third
after that lake surge on the final lap from james cottingham's taggero jag yeah the extra grunt
of the chevy engine in the 54 just helped him hold on as it went across the line but a real good
final lap from james cottingham we're gonna have a spinner so this is our battle oh this is a 223
that goes round oh on two wheels in a big harsh drop back down and not quite a double 360 actually
maybe just might do it be done facing the right direction as well i'll tell you what that's uh
that's the cooper monaco t49 uh and that's had a few skirmishes in the last half of this race
having a bit of fun out there but that could have been a bit too much fun couldn't it in the end but
luckily for for the mark daniel cart and tom dark there's a sam breathing a sigh of relief
but gordon had it under control 18 seconds with the gap to the leader and then 16 seconds behind
for our third place a crew of jarvis and malvin but brilliant to see the smile there from simon
sam place that's what it means doesn't it you know to race here at goodwood that is enough
to to be competitive to be up there in the fight it's just the cherry on top yeah they they come
these are such special cars they're so unique so much history behind every single one so they treat
them of course with plenty of respect but you're sticking racing drivers in these cars of course
they're going to want to win and what a better place to to get a historic win here
