In the far eastern part of Siberia lies Yakutia, the largest republic of the Russian Federation—a territory five times the size of France with barely one million inhabitants. It is also the coldest inhabited region on Earth.
Christophe arrives in Yakutsk, still frozen at the end of winter. After crossing the icy river and finding a warm chapka, he travels north toward Olieneck, a remote settlement deep in the Siberian forest. There, he meets the Evenks, nomadic reindeer herders whose lives are shaped by snow, silence, and endurance. He takes part in the annual reindeer herders’ festival, where nomads compete on sledges and skis.
Later, Christophe heads into the taiga, sharing the daily life of a camp and discovering a harsh and ancestral world, where survival depends on the extraordinary bond between humans and their reindeer.
