Something changed beneath Yellowstone this summer — but not in the way most people expect.

New Yellowstone Volcano Observatory data shows that uplift along the northern rim of the caldera stopped, August seismicity remained low, and no earthquake swarms were detected. At the same time, new geological research is challenging parts of what scientists thought they knew about Yellowstone’s last supereruption and even the mapped boundary of the caldera itself.
Scientists are also improving monitoring of Yellowstone’s hydrothermal system, where explosions caused by superheated water remain one of the park’s most immediate geological hazards.

In this DiscoverTube documentary, we look at the latest Yellowstone data, new USGS research, the halted ground uplift, recent geyser activity, hydrothermal explosions, and the discoveries that could reshape how scientists understand the volcano.
