What Early Explorers Saw in the Grand Canyon Was Not What You Were Told

The Grand Canyon has been fooling people for centuries.

In this DiscoverTube investigation, we explore the canyon’s hidden history — from Spanish soldiers who misjudged the Colorado River by nearly one hundred times, to the billion years missing from its rock record, the debate over how old the canyon really is, and the deadly flash floods that still catch visitors off guard today.

We also look at Indigenous history, Powell’s famous expedition, failing infrastructure, and the modern scientific arguments still reshaping what we think we know about this landscape.

The Grand Canyon looks timeless.

But even after 500 years of study, we may still be getting parts of it wrong.
