What London REALLY Looked Like Before the Great Fire of 1666

Basically, in this video, I use AI to "resurrect" London — the lost city of wood that stood for a thousand years before the Great Fire of 1666 erased it in four days. It's not just about looking at buildings; we walk the narrow jettied lanes where the upper floors almost touched overhead, cross Old London Bridge with its seven-story houses stacked above the Thames, and step inside Old St Paul's Cathedral — the colossal Gothic giant that stood where the famous dome stands today. We contrast that vibrant reality — the Globe Theatre, the Frost Fairs on the frozen river, the marketplace running through the nave of a working cathedral — with the brick-and-stone city that replaced it.

We also break down the exact night the Great Fire of London began, in a baker's shop on Pudding Lane, and how one strong east wind turned a blaze the Lord Mayor dismissed into a firestorm that destroyed 13,000 houses, 87 parish churches and four-fifths of the medieval city inside its Roman walls. It's crazy to see what was actually lost in the ashes — the stones of St Paul's flying like grenades, melted lead running down the streets — and that we can only walk this London at all because two men, Samuel Pepys and John Evelyn, troubled to write it down.
