On top of breaking news, a Gwinnett County Superior Court judge has granted a $5,000
bond for the mother charged in her one-year-old son's hot car death.
Deja Coleman faces murder and child cruelty charges, and now we have Fox 5's Caitlin Pratt
to explain.
That Gwinnett County mother charged in the hot car death of her one-year-old son will
be allowed to leave jail.
Her attorney's telling me that they expect to try and make bond tonight and get her out
of the Gwinnett County facility where she's been since July, since her arrest by Lawrenceville
police.
So let's take you back to July and to what police say happened.
Today was a bond hearing here at the courthouse.
She has been behind bars, though, since that incident.
In July, when police say she dropped two of her three children off at a daycare, went
on to go to her job at a local hospital here.
The baby, though, still in the back seat while the other two were at the daycare.
A colleague ended their shift, went out, saw the infant, alerted authorities.
They broke that window out and got to little Daniel, but it was too late.
We did catch up with her attorneys after the bond hearing today.
Here's what they had to say.
I mean, that would be our hope, would be that we could, you know, get back in and draft
the order, get it to the judge and the D.A., get them to approve it, get that over to the
jail and then obviously, you know, coordinate a bonding company to be there.
The judge did order her to be on house arrest with some ankle monitoring.
So there's a little bit of logistics that have to go through, but that would be our
goal would hopefully be today.
We have some, you know, some things to figure out when Stacia gets out.
Obviously, we've had some sort of limited communication with her just because being
incarcerated in custody, it's kind of hard to be able to communicate with her.
So we haven't figured all that out yet.
And there are some conditions about Deja Coleman's release out on bond.
She has to be under house arrest.
She has to wear an ankle bracelet.
She can't have any sort of conversations about the case with anyone involved.
She is, though, allowed to see her children ages four and six who have been in the care
of the daycare director up until this point.
That's the latest here in Gwinnett County.
I'm Caitlin Pratt, Fox 5 News.
Big development there.
Caitlin, thank you.
New at noon.
