After Tuesday's election,
Democrats flipped the Cobb County School Board.
They also strengthened their advantage
on the Cobb County Commission to a supermajority.
Fox 5's Angelique Proctor spent the day talking
with the Cobb County Chairwoman about the Democrat victories.
Angelique?
Well, good afternoon to you both.
Cobb County Chairwoman Lisa Cupid says she was just amazed
by these election results.
She says she is hopeful now that this supermajority
will allow the commission
to address things like housing and transportation.
Just thrilled.
It's been a long time coming to see this shift in momentum
for people of the Democratic Party here across the state.
Cobb County Chair Lisa Cupid calls Tuesday's decisive victory
for Democrats record-breaking.
Cupid says 25,000 more voters turned out Tuesday than
the midterms in 2022.
She believes it clearly means one thing.
They sent a very clear message that they want to see a change
and they want to have a hand in who is leading them.
There's a tension that's been in the air where people just want leaders
that are mindful of them as people.
And I think that we are doing a reset, a recalibration.
The Cobb County School Board flipped to Democratic on Tuesday, plus
Cupid, who was elected as the only Democrat when she first ran in 2012,
will now serve with four fellow Democrats and just one Republican.
She is a history maker of her own,
serving as the first African-American
and first female commission chair in the history of the county.
She hopes the commission will address issues to help all people.
Housing affordability can't be a bad word
because the accessibility of housing has
just been difficult for everyone.
We've also had transit become a more acute issue in our county,
so there may be some things that we can
do to strengthen transit here in the county.
Now, Commissioner-elect Kevin Redd,
some hopes to be sworn in in January. That is the very
latest from Cobb County, Angelique Proctor, Fox 5 News.
All right, some big changes on the way,
Angelique, thanks.
