The NFL is back, baby!
Patriots, Seahawks,
Raybould, McDonald's,
May, Darnold's.
We're back on the field tonight in Seattle,
and I could not be any happier.
We're gonna break it all down,
give you my shines, lines, parlay for the game,
plus my takes on the Jets,
getting revenge on Robert Sala.
My discussion with Aaron Rodgers
on the ceiling for his Steelers.
Well, Lamar Jackson told me about
what the New Look Ravens offense is gonna look like.
Shine time starts right now.
The Seahawks, Super Bowl champions for the second time.
That's a long time ago,
and we'll need to play better,
we'll need to coach better
to give ourselves a chance in that environment.
You know, we got our work cut out for us,
but it's exciting, man.
Excited to have football back and just ready to go.
We got a good team,
so I'm looking forward to see what we got.
We've been practicing for everybody in the league has,
and it's like they wanna play a game,
so this is when it matters,
and looking forward to getting out there.
You know, tough challenge.
I'm excited to see us go out there and play.
We gotta play good to win.
There's a reason why they won the Super Bowl.
You know, they're really talented,
and we got our work cut out for us,
and we gotta go out there and make plays and communicate,
and play fast and play within ourselves.
Take a deep breath and go let it rip
and let's rock and roll.
Oh, if you don't have the chills,
check your pulse.
Tonight is the night.
Football's back.
Let's go!
Super Bowl rematch.
Patriots in Seattle.
Take on the Seahawks opening night.
12th man gonna be rockin' and rollin'.
Seahawks celebrate the second championship
in franchise history, raise a banner.
Those fans are amazing.
They look to start their title defense
with a win against a team that they absolutely destroyed
and beat down in Santa Clara back in February,
and honestly, I don't know how the Patriots
find a way to change the outcome in the ballgame tonight.
Seattle won the Super Bowl.
Seattle was not a fluke.
Seattle is loaded.
Seattle is going to have all sorts of joy,
jubilation, buzz, great vibes on the heels of this,
and winning a championship, and the confetti falling,
and everything that goes into the mix
and into the conversation,
and Sam Darnold's obviously gonna have
another outstanding season.
I'm a big fan of Sam Darnold.
The beginning of his career, he got ruined by the Jets,
and at the end of the day,
needed that year with Kyle Shanahan
to appreciate the finer things about being a quarterback.
The last two years, go back to Minnesota,
last year winning a championship.
This is what I expected from Sam Darnold out of USC
a lifetime ago before the draft in 2018,
so I think that Darnold has a great home.
I think Jackson Smith and Jigva
are gonna have an unbelievable night tonight,
just like he did against the New England Patriots
in the Super Bowl.
I think Darnold is gonna dominate.
I think that JSN is gonna dominate.
I think Mike McDonald's defense is fantastic.
The energy that they play with on defense is incredible.
McDonald's gonna make sure
that his team is ready to rock and roll,
and I just love everything about this.
Now, of course, Drake May on the other side,
we understand what he brings to the table
with his unbelievable talent,
and he was number two on my list for MVP last year,
and he's got a shiny new toy and weapon with A.J. Brown,
and I think A.J. Brown's gonna have a monster game,
great debut.
I think he's gonna be absolutely fantastic tonight,
fantastic this season.
Obviously, when you think about Mike Drable,
you think about the defense.
You think about, obviously, a well-coached,
buttoned-up team in terms of just understanding
how to win tight games, how to win close games.
Christian Gonzalez got paid,
so Vrabel and Elliott Wolfe and Bob Kraft
take care of that before the season starts.
Gonzalez is now the highest-paid corner in the NFL,
moves ahead of Witherspoon from the Seattle Seahawks,
who was the highest-paid corner in the NFL,
so they obviously, and they have the same agent,
by the way, little one-upsman in terms of the contract
and then the play on the field tonight,
and I expect this game to be absolutely tremendous
and absolutely terrific,
and I think the Seahawks are gonna end up winning.
I think they're gonna end up winning by seven to 10 points.
This is not one of those games where you look at it
and say, I needed to see a Super Bowl rematch here
in any way, shape, or form.
I think the Patriots, if you look at their schedule,
are gonna start 0-4.
Like, I think the Patriots are gonna have,
with that offensive line, a miserable start to the season.
They have Seattle in Seattle, loss.
Pittsburgh at home, loss.
Jacksonville in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville's better, that's a loss.
And they're not beating the Bills
in lovely western New York.
It's not gonna happen.
So I'm thrilled that football is back.
I am amped about this season.
Feels like, if you look at the Seahawks' schedule,
that people are kinda sleeping on Seattle.
I think the Seahawks are gonna be a strong team.
They did have some defections.
Lost Clint Kubiak, their offensive coordinator.
He's now the new head coach of the Raiders.
But I think that you're gonna see Seattle
get off to a brilliant start.
New England, Arizona, Washington, Chargers, 49ers.
And the Chargers and 49ers, those games
are in the great Northwest in front of those amazing fans.
I expect them to be able to win all of those games.
Denver will be tough, but getting the Chiefs at home,
that's a win.
You know I love the Bears, that's a win.
I think Seattle's gonna be terrific and tremendous.
Oh, I'm so amped that football is back.
I'm so amped that the season starts tonight.
I'm so fired up that we get to see the Seahawks
get all this kind of attention.
But nobody wanted to see Patriot Seahawks
in an extension of that Super Bowl on opening night.
And I think we're gonna see, as much as I love
the A.J. Brown pickup, mirror image
of what transpired on Super Bowl Sunday.
I think we're gonna get a monster game from Sam Darnold,
monster game from our guy Jackson Smith and Jigba,
and I can't wait to see that banner go up tonight
in the great Northwest.
I'm gonna give you my betting picks
for tonight's opener in a little bit.
But first, Robert Sala insists he holds no grudges
against the Jets out of his week one showdown
as the new head coach of the Titans.
The Jets should have a grudge.
I'm gonna tell you why it's a must win next on Shine Time.
One of the most underrated fascinating games
on a great banger of a week one NFL slate,
the Robert Sala revenge game,
with the Jets traveling to Nashville
to face their former coach.
He, of course, is now the head man of the Tennessee Titans.
The question is, who is seeking revenge on who?
I've said it before, and I don't BS when I say it,
or, you know, like New York is still a special place.
Gave me my first opportunity as a head coach.
Our desire to win week one, beat the Jets,
is because it's week one, and nothing more.
I'm forever grateful for all the opportunity they gave.
I don't hold grudges.
Really, under the radar team, I think,
they've got a chance to be pretty good.
I think, because it's Aaron Glenn
coming off of an atrocious season.
First year for Glenn as the head coach of the Jets,
and he replaced Robert Sala,
and Sala was awful coaching the Jets.
Didn't do anything right.
His in-game management, his clock management,
how he handled the press, quarterbacks,
achievement over achievement,
went to throw a challenge flag.
Robert Sala was terrible as the head coach of the Jets.
And the fact that he's now coaching the Titans,
you hope if you're a Titans fan, he learned.
I'm surprised he got a second bite at the apple, honestly.
Seriously, he was that bad in New York.
Aaron Glenn somehow was worse.
Which is why I think week one for Aaron Glenn
is a must-win.
And I know how that sounds.
But week one for the Jets, and Aaron Glenn most especially,
going up against Robert Sala is a must-win.
You have to win that game.
If you can't win this game,
then all the hopes that I have for the Jets,
they're in the toilet.
I love this back page of the New York Post,
let there be flight,
because I think that Garrett Wilson and Brees Hall
are gonna be dynamite.
Like I think both these guys,
Wilson at receiver, Hall at running back,
I really think when it's all said and done,
these guys are gonna be top 10 at their positions.
And I think going up against a defense
that has no talent, no teeth,
I expect them to dominate on Sunday.
I expect Geno Smith to have a smashing debut in 2026,
second go around now with the Jets.
Jets offensive line is good.
I like the weapons at the skilled position.
I firmly believe the Titans had a miserable camp,
miserable off season, and it's there.
You look at the Jets schedule,
I count seven to nine wins.
I said the Jets will start 2-0,
beat Tennessee, and then have the ability
to beat the Green Bay Packers at home.
We're not going to have Josh Jacobs or Micah Parsons.
You can't go 2-0 if you don't start 1-0.
So let's go.
And I'm of the opinion that Aaron Glenn learned something
based upon how atrocious last year was.
And Mugee did an excellent job
giving him the requisite talent.
I love the DeMera Davis move.
I love tangibles, intangibles, leadership, all of it.
We refuse to lower the bar when it comes to Jets football.
I think the Jets should be
an entertaining, fun-to-watch team this year.
Seriously, I firmly believe that.
It must start week one in a winnable game.
Can't your former head coach,
who did nothing right when he was coaching the Jets,
go into Tennessee and beat the Titans?
I could argue facing off against a Falcons team
led by Tua Tungavailoa qualifies a must-win
for the Steelers in week one,
but that's not what I spoke with Aaron Rodgers about
on my SiriusXM show on Tuesday.
My focus was on the bigger picture
and if Rodgers thinks a deep playoff run
for Pittsburgh is possible this final season.
I count 11 teams that I bet in their building
they think their team can make a run
to Championship Sunday.
I feel like people on the outside are sleeping on Pittsburgh.
Do you put your Steelers in that mix
of that eight to 12 teams that can make a run
to Championship Sunday in the Super Bowl?
Yeah, of course, of course.
I mean, that's why I came back,
because I believe in the guys.
I like what Pat Graham has done on defense.
You know, we added a few guys
I think that impact players for us.
We added Jaquan Brisker, safety, who was in Chicago.
We added Jamal Bean, who's a veteran,
been in Tampa for a long time.
We added Sebastian Joseph Day,
who's a great rotational interior D lineman.
And I liked the way that we drafted too.
You know, we got some good value
out of some of our later round picks.
Listen, the spot with Aaron Rodgers,
30 minutes of gold on my SiriusXM radio show
on Channel Sports this week was absolutely terrific
on so many different levels.
But specifically for this season, listen, I love this.
And when I asked Rodgers about Pittsburgh this season,
if you noticed, I know that you did,
first thing he did was talk about the defense
and talk about Patrick Graham
and talk about the new players on that side of the football.
And I agree with him.
And I also think that T.J. Watt is gonna get back to form
and resemble the T.J. Watt that we saw in prior years,
where he was a force, a factor,
one of the best players in the National Football League,
regardless of position.
I think the Steelers' defense is gonna be really good.
I think the Steelers' offense is gonna be great.
I think that this is gonna be a well-coached team.
I think Mike McCarthy's fantastic.
Right guy, right time.
They haven't won a playoff game
since Mike Tomlin and the Steelers
beat Alex Smith and the Chiefs.
That's Prima Holmes.
That's a lifetime ago.
So yes, I'm with Rodgers,
and I've said as much here on Shine Time.
I have three teams from that division,
the Bengals, Ravens, and the Steelers,
all making the playoffs.
I think that Rodgers loves the weapons he has
at his disposal,
loves being back with Mike McCarthy, obviously.
Won a Super Bowl together,
won MVPs together in Green Bay,
and I think the Pittsburgh Steelers
will absolutely not only make the playoffs,
they will have the ability to win a playoff game
and make a run.
I think Rodgers has a ton of gas left in the tank.
I can't wait to watch it this season.
The Steelers are in trial.
The Baltimore Ravens have a lot of new
heading into this season.
Among them, the head coach, Jesse Vinton.
The offensive coordinator, Declan Doyle.
So what is the offense gonna look like?
With Lamar Jackson having a new offensive coordinator.
What should Ravens fans expect from this offense?
I can't call it what this offense is.
Everywhere, there's a lot of moving parts
with our offense, man.
There's guys flying around.
I don't wanna say it's like a one-trick pony
because it's far from that.
It's everything, everything you need in the offense.
Play action, no drop back.
Run game is everything you want in the offensive system.
And like coaches, like I just said with Coach Jesse,
the attention to detail, he's overly preaching
that he want every guy to know what everyone's doing
basically with the offense.
So he's just making everyone's job a lot easier.
And I just can't wait to showcase it.
Oh man, I mean, if I'm a Ravens fan,
I'm getting the chills.
So elaborate on that.
When you start talking about showcasing it,
what is this offense gonna look like
in terms of those explosive plays?
Like you're a two-time MVP.
How is it gonna take your game,
your name to a different level?
I can't call it until we're out there on the field.
But from practice, just the insight of practice
and what I've been seeing on film,
it's like, man, I don't believe a defense
is prepared for what's in store for us
or what's in store for them.
Doyle obviously is a well-respected young offensive mind,
worked with Ben Johnson in Chicago.
And when I had Lamar Jackson on my Sirius XM radio show,
he raved about it.
And at the end of the day,
can't wait to showcase the Baltimore offense.
These defenses are gonna have no idea what's in store.
I love when he dropped that bar on us.
Absolutely incredible.
Jackson was not 100% physically last year.
So you saw the sack total was the worst it's ever been
in terms of getting sacked the most in a season
in his career.
The rushing yards were at an all-time low for Lamar.
Listen, this is a three-time ball player
in terms of being a first-team All-Pro quarterback,
two-time NFL MVP.
And he sounded so energized by the ability
to just thrive in Declan Doyle's offense.
And he thinks Derrick Henry's gonna push 2,000 yards.
He's ecstatic about Dave Flowers,
ecstatic about Jacoby Lane.
I think that the pressure this offense,
how multiple it's gonna be,
the RPOs, he'll be on their center,
be in the shotgun, the balance on offense,
the creativity from Doyle calling plays,
defenses having no idea what's in store, just amazing.
And yeah, he can't wait to showcase it.
Not hyperbole to believe this is gonna be the best year
on offense in Lamar Jackson's already Hall of Fame career.
By the way, he needs a new contract at some point
at the end of the year.
I'm sure that that's part of his focus as well
in terms of play well.
He's gonna get paid, gonna get the bag.
I think every single defense is gonna have to be
on their heels in terms of Jackson,
what he's gonna bring to the table.
And I think you're gonna see a dynamite season
from Lamar as a runner, as a thrower.
He's super intelligent, he's super passionate,
and he has locked it.
I have the privilege of interviewing Jackson
every year of his career before the season starts.
This was the most amped I've ever heard Lamar Jackson
before an NFL season.
I think he's about to put the NFL on notice.
Up next, it's time for the first edition
of Shine's Lines for the NFL season.
We got a little parlay cooking that you don't wanna miss.
NFL kickoff meets Shine's Lines next on Shine Time.
Ah yes, welcome back to Shine Time.
And every Friday throughout the football season,
I'm gonna be picking alongside a special guest
each and every week, our five favorite games
against the spread of the NFL every single week.
I'm also gonna make sure that I share my picks
for every NFL game.
Now today, not Friday, but we're picking every game
all season long.
Listen, it's kickoff, so we have to spread some love
and we're loving the spread.
So here's my exclusive Shine Time parlay
you can hop on for the Super Bowl rematch
starting with the new guy, A.J. Brown.
Yeah, I think we'll have an immediate impact.
61 or more receiving yards,
we'll put that in the Shine Time parlay.
Jackson Smith and Jigma, 83 or more receiving yards.
I think he's gonna have a monster game.
And I think he's gonna be outstanding this year
once again for the Seattle Seahawks.
And I think the Seahawks are gonna win by seven to 10 points
so I think they're gonna cover the spread.
You can get this one at a tasty plus, 5.50.
You're welcome, America and Canada.
That's the show.
If you missed any portion of the show,
just do what I do and rewatch the show
over and over and over again.
