Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe video provides a guide to early autumn home decorating, focusing on creating a cozy atmosphere through a mix of garden-sourced materials, thrifted finds, and budget-friendly store items. The creator shares practical tips for incorporating textures and colors to transition the home and porch into the fall season.
The days are still warm, but there's that first little hint of autumn in the air.
The evenings are getting shorter, and it's time to start adding warm colors,
soft textures, and all the little details that make a home feel cozy. Today I'm going to be doing
a little early autumn decorating, and I hope you'll join me. Entryway has been in need of
a refresh for quite some time now, and I decided to add in these dried tassels from our corn
from our garden, and they add just such a fun fall texture. And then to flesh it out a bit,
I added in some faux florals. I love these berries, they're just so pretty. And I also added
in some dried hydrangeas from our garden as well, and it really works to incorporate both
dried florals and faux florals together. It just opens up a lot more possibilities
than what you might just have with dried things that you find around your garden.
I found this adorable sweet little stitched sign at the thrift store a couple months ago.
It's blue and white, so it's right up my alley, and it's just so lovely, and I wanted to hang it
right in our entryway as a little greeting when we see it. When we think of autumn, we probably
think of all the cozy textures, including baskets and quilts. And just a tip, if you want the look
of an antique quilt but you can't necessarily afford to buy an entire quilt, often at antique
malls or other shops like that, you can find pieces of old quilts. And they're just little
bits of quilts that were falling apart that have been cut up and are being sold as decorative
objects, and you can completely use those in your decor. You can tuck them into baskets like this,
you can use them as doilies or table runners, frame them and hang them on the wall, so many
different possibilities, but it's a much more budget-friendly way to add that texture into your
decor. It's been so exciting as our hydrangea bush in the back has gotten larger and larger over the
years that I've been able to just cut freely and put hydrangeas all around the house, dry them,
use them in projects, and not feel like I'm totally decimating the bush. So if you have an
abundance of hydrangeas, this is a great way to dry them and have them look beautiful all through
the fall. All I did was take a very long length of twine, made a loop at one end, tied on a little
bundle of hydrangeas, and then kept adding hydrangeas and wrapping the twine round and round into a long
garland. More recently I have been checking out the dollar store for craft supplies and seasonal items,
and I've actually been pretty impressed in some areas. These ribbons were $1.25 a piece,
and you really can't find that at most craft stores for that price. I decided on the orange
because I liked how it popped against the dark wood of the old windows. I wanted to make it a
little more fun and interesting, so I turned it into a ruffle ribbon by pulling the wire partly
out of one side and bunching up that side of the ribbon, and then completely removing the wire from
the other side of the ribbon, which turned it into this pretty little ruffle. When I tied it in a bow,
it sort of ended up looking like a pretzel, but I also kind of like it, so you can let me know
what you think below if you like the ruffle pretzel ribbon or if you just would prefer
regular straight ribbon. I was looking for some pillow shams to freshen up our bedroom,
and I found these beautiful green and white twall ruffled pillow shams on Amazon. They're 100% cotton
and they have the sweetest little pattern on them. I'll link them in the description below if you're
interested. Autumn is not quite here yet, but I am doing a few things to my porch to get it ready
for the season, including hanging a new wreath with more of the dollar store ribbon and adding
a few mums around my porch. I save my thrifted baskets all year long just to be able to use them
on my porch in autumn, so I can just set my plastic mum pots right inside of the baskets.
You can typically find these sort of baskets at the thrift store for just a few dollars,
and they make a great cover for the ordinary plastic mum pots. Also, if you need a little prop
in your basket to prop up your mum, dollar store wire baskets work very well for this.
And if your wire basket is too tall, you can gently step on it to squish it down to the
appropriate height. Pumpkins are not yet available in stores around here, so I'll be adding those
later on in the season, so be sure to stay tuned for more autumn porch decor.
