This video provides a tutorial on creating professional decorative bows for trees and stairways. The instructor demonstrates how to measure ribbon for various sizes, the importance of long tails for a high-end look, and how to use pleated ribbon as a backing for stairway bows to create an elegant drape.
So if I'm going to do one where I'm going to make them two bows, one for each side of the tree,
still going to give them a yard because I'm going to tell you what they're looking for
are the long tails. It's one of the reasons why they want the tree topper bows. Okay,
then we'll do kind of a shorter one. I always say like 28 inches. There we go. Okay,
it is full. That's why they like that one. Okay, okay, now we're just going to do a short one,
you know, like 14 inches or so. So no matter which bow I make, I'm going to give them this amount of
tails. This bow is not going to be as big, but they think it's big because it has these really
long tails. Alright, so we're going to do seven inches. Okay, and seven, seven. So even if you
pay, let's say you pay $20 for a roll of this on 50 yard ribbon, you're going to be able to get
several tree topper bows out of it. So if you charge 50 to $60 for a tree topper bow, they
don't take very long to make. You're going to be able to get several out of these ribbons.
You're going to be good. Okay, so we've got four. Okay, there we go. So four at seven.
Now we go down to six. So six, six. We're gonna do that three times. Okay, this is the third one.
He fell over, so he's giving me a little hard time.
So this is three over here. This is the third one over here. Okay, right now we're gonna go
to five. Okay, so you can see it's very similar. What's going to be different is they get two
instead of one. Listen to me. Come off of that little sucker. Thank you. Now I can flow you
like I want. I hate the spools. I hate spools, y'all. I am not a spool fan. I'd rather take them
all off and just have them somewhere. And then one at about four. Yeah, and this, it got on the floor
and it started twisting on itself. Now I can fix it because I got it off of that little board.
Can you see the amount of mess behind there where that crack pan is?
The thought of that just scares me. I'm gonna have to get back there and clean it.
Okay, pull that out. There's our indention. Okay, and we'll use the sisal.
I might have to go in search of my stuff. Okay, yeah, don't worry. You'll,
you'll be able to watch them again and I'm also putting them over in the training
and I'll probably break them up into pieces so that we can do the separate bows and separate
videos. But you'll get to watch the whole thing as well. You see how pretty that is? And then they
put this on one side of the tree and they get a second one that's the same exact bow and they put
that on the other side of the tree. So I generally sell, I think I sell these bows for 35.
And so if they're going to buy two of them, if they buy two of them, I generally give it to
them for like 60 or 65 because then it's pretty much the same as a tree topper bow, but they get,
they can get two. Some people just put one in the front and so this is generally what they'll get.
I keep wanting to go out this way because that's what I'm used to. So if you see me do that, that's
why. You see? And then if you can see the zip tie in there, which generally you can, you're just
going to take a piece of your ribbon and I do this for these bows that are going to go outdoors or on
a tree because you don't want something that doesn't look finished. So I just fold it over
and I just go right around that zip tie, tie it. I like to give myself plenty of room
to tie it. I just trim it off and then generally I will twist the tie. This is also a really great
stairway bow. Now, a lot of times for stairway bows, you can make a bow like this. Oh crap,
I don't know where that ribbon is. Okay, y'all, I'm going to make Ross come over tomorrow because
I have to buy my ribbon, the pleated. All right, I'll show y'all what I generally put in the back
for the stairway bows. Yeah. So you see this here thing.
You see this bow right here, this ribbon right here. This is called pleated ribbon. Okay.
And I generally will put this in the back of these. Okay. If I'm going to put it on a stairway
and then I have another bow that I do for a stairway that actually includes a swag,
which is a totally different bow. And okay, here's the thing. These bows,
we are going through some summer, some fall, some Christmas, but these bows can be used all year
round. It doesn't have to be just for Christmas. So if I do a bow for a stairway, I can do a bow
for a stairway for a wedding, just like I can for Christmas or fall or spring or whatever.
So just because we're using it for a specific season doesn't mean you can't transfer it to
all of the seasons. I'm guessing. It's not solid red. Oh, perfect. Yeah, I don't think I have a solid
red one. All right, here we go. So this is pleated ribbon. Okay. Can you see it? I gotta lean y'all
back down. So when I'm going to do a stairway bow, I try to give them about two yards.
This ribbon, and you can find this at Hobby Lobby. You don't really want to try to make
a bow with it. It's very difficult, but it makes an excellent backing for stairway bows.
So all you do is find the center. This is kind of stuck. Okay. Find the center, pinch it,
put it behind, and just tie it on with your tie like this. Now look. I'm gonna pull y'all up.
Can you see? Look at that. So then when it's sitting up against a stairway,
it's draping down like this. People get emotionally attached to things like this,
and it doesn't take a lot extra to do this because the ribbon already comes this way.
All you have to do is put it in the back. So you just work with what it gives you already.
There's really nothing extra you have to do to it.
