This tutorial demonstrates how to create a professional tree topper bow using denim ribbon. The instructor shares a specific numerical formula to ensure consistency across multiple bows and explains how to layer loops of decreasing size to create a full, voluminous look that sits atop a Christmas tree with cascading tails.
Let's make a tree topper bow. We're gonna use some denim. Okay, so you can do this with any
ribbon. You can do it with several different ribbons. The formula that I use is 5-4-3-2
and then I can't remember if I do 2-1. I have to look at it when I get to that part.
Okay, first things first. I usually give two yards for a tail. Okay, let's do that first.
Okay, ribbon, if you're gonna be a pain, I'm gonna take you off and throw you in the floor.
Okay, so then I'll do like 28 inch tail. Okay, oh I didn't need to. Okay, and then we'll do
like a 14 inch tail. Okay, there we go. So, that's how I start it. Okay, that's it. It's
in the floor you go. Pain in the butt ribbon. Okay, yeah, that was aggravating me.
So, sometimes I will do 8 inch tree topper bows. Sometimes I will do 7. It depends on
tails. So, there's one at 2 yards and one at 2 times 28 inches and then 14.
So, if they have a super large tree, then I'll start at 8 inches. If they don't have a super
large tree, I'll go 7 inches. Because this bow maker is out at 7 inches, let's go right a little
bit past 7 inches. Okay, so a little bit past 7 inches. We're going to do 5 on each side.
Yes, it is share bear you here. Two, that was Dawn. Did you see? Three, four, and five. Okay,
we have five. All right, so you see how this kind of creates that first little ring. Okay, now
did I do five on this side? One, two, three, four, five. I was about to jip that side.
Okay, so it's kind of like a circle, right? So, we've got our circle established.
Now, we're going to do four and we're going to come in to about six.
So, what you can do is kind of move some aside and just kind of hover over. Okay, this is three
on this side, three on this side. Now, four, four. Now, I'll just start to pull these out a little
bit. The reason I do this is because, for one, it gives me a little bit more room to work with
and I'm kind of counting and making sure that I have what I thought I have at this point.
Okay, now we're going to do three. Three is going to go at five. That looks right.
So, you see what it is? It's progressively smaller. I like to have a formula because sometimes
people will have multiple trees and they want them to look the same. So, one, two, this is three
here. Here we go, three. Okay, so pull that out. Okay, then we go down again to four.
See, isn't that pretty? Look at that. See how pretty that looks? Okay, two and then one right
there on the top. I'm going to show you a second one, but this is going to be the big expensive
tree topper bow that I do. I don't remember what we tried. So, this is 60, 65. I can't remember.
Do you remember? Were these 60, 65? And then the other one was 50, the one that was the double.
Right. Okay, so there's quite an indention on this one. You still want to hold it.
Slide it around. Make sure you're staying in the center. Okay, on these. Oh, you know what? I think
they have my antique wire out there. I like this sound. So, we can use this size. They have my
antique wire out there. I forgot. So, we can use sisal. You just want something that's covered, that's
a little thicker. So, I generally don't give pipe cleaners for tree topper bows because they're
going to need more to get around the tree. So, maybe like 28 inches is about what I usually give.
There we go. So, we got the whole thing. All right, so now we're going to do our normal stuff.
We're gonna start to fluff it. This is also why I fluffed them while they were on so I can keep
track and make sure I get them all and I go layer by layer. See how nice and big that side is
to the other side? This is the type of tree topper bow that sits on the top of the tree.
So, it's a top tree topper bow. That kind of sounds funny, but I think you know what I mean
because there are different kinds. Generally, in my experience, if they want the kind that
sits on the top, mostly they want like a red one. Okay, and then your tails, you put one tail
on each side like this and then when they set it on top of the tree, it looks like this
and then the tails cascade down the sides. See isn't that pretty? All right, so that's the top
tree topper.
