So, a lot of folks are going to be traveling, eventually they're going to be either driving or they're going to be flying, getting back because it's back to our routines, getting back ready for work and school.
So, because there's so many people that are expected to travel, Philadelphia International Airport, they're operating more than 2,100 planes because they want to accommodate everyone.
So, today is the day. Let's check back in with Ellen, see how well things look relatively quiet behind you, Ellen. Good morning.
Yes, it's been a lovely morning here at the airport. Lines have been moving very quickly on this Labor Day. Let's take a look.
TSA workers have it flowing like a well-oiled machine. These guys are always so nice to us.
Most travelers say they made sure they left extra early just in case they ran into any major delays or cancellations.
Now, AAA says this will be the busiest day of the long holiday weekend with 17 million folks traveling nationally, hundreds of thousands in our neck of the woods.
Now, most people will be driving back from their weekend getaways, so you can expect a lot of traffic out on the roads.
Now, the wait time at security was down to two minutes just a few minutes ago. It's back up to three to eight minutes, but that is not bad at all.
Forty-two flights are delayed right now. That's up from 32 about an hour ago.
Two flights are canceled, so as always, make sure you check the status of your flight if you're flying out of Philly or if you're getting ready to come pick someone up.
Now, a whole lot of lucky people heading to Florida today to go on a cruise.
We talked to one man who had his flight canceled yesterday because of that awful Amazon plane crash in Miami.
But we also talked to a lovely, wonderful couple and asked how they're feeling about this Labor Day travel.
As you can see, it's smooth traveling, you know, so it's good to go.
And you got to get away and go see your family.
What did you think about traveling on Labor Day? Were you nervous?
I was. I actually rushed my husband because he's a late person as far as traveling.
He's a last-minute person, so I said we need to be here by four, right?
He said we need to be here by five.
So as you can see, it's four.
You won.
And I won, yes.
But I'm very surprised that it's not as congested as I thought it was going to be.
So I'm envious.
That couple epitomizes a happy marriage, right?
What's the old saying? Happy wife, happy life.
Well, they were just adorable.
But if you are heading out today, make sure you, you know, check your flights.
And if you are driving, AAA expects the busiest time will be later today.
So get on the road as soon as possible to avoid some of those big traffic jams on the road, guys.
Absolutely. When the wife says we got to leave now, you better leave.
Let's go.
Ellen.
Wifey knows best.
That is true. Thank you.
Well, we have to get to this top story.
Yesterday, and folks are still talking about it, of course, because it's going to be an ongoing investigation.
Five people are dead and five others injured after an Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport.
Let's show you the scene right here.
So this saw a close-up of the plane.
It happened while the plane was attempting to land at Miami from San Juan, Puerto Rico around 2 p.m.
The Boeing Prime Air 767 overran the runway.
It skidded right across and hit multiple cars before the engine side, you'll see it in just a moment, burst into flames.
Authorities say several people were trapped inside their cars.
Witnesses recalling the moments.
I was nearby, and I came right here, and I looked and I saw, you know, the tail, and there was a lot of emergency vehicles that said in this direction.
It's crazy.
We had a very complex fire.
Engine compartments that were on fire, including a search and rescue of the pilot and co-pilot that were trapped in this aircraft.
Three people are currently in critical condition.
Officials say while the crash site is not a danger to the public, locals are being asked to stay away because there is still a fuel leak.
The NTSB is investigating.
