Welcome back in everybody for weeks and weeks and weeks and months.
We've been looking at this
house in the Olney section of Philadelphia.
Many people have called it the house of horrors. We're
hearing now that they've wrapped up the excavation.
There you see a picture of five women. There are
two boxes because seven women could be linked to this case.
Five are definitely linked to this
case. So they're wrapping up the work on site.
However, this investigation is far from over.
We want to get out to Jennifer Lee,
who is on the scene for us this morning.
Jennifer,
I want to make sure that Jen Lee can hear us.
But once again, you're looking...
So we're here at the 400 block of Chew Avenue in Olney.
And a lot of you guys know that Philadelphia police,
as well as the FBI,
have been doing the painstaking search the last few weeks.
Of course, this is the home of Eugene Hirschman,
who was arrested back in June.
And once authorities got involved and searched the home,
they realized that this is connected to seven missing women
and you can see now that the
authorities who have been doing
the search they've actually all left they say they're finished
with what they were looking for they said they did find some
of the stuff that they were looking for
of course you know investigators say initially
they had found some digital evidence about a
million pictures videos and of course
that's how they learned about the connection to these missing
women. Once they saw that evidence,
a source telling us that they had to come back to see if
they could find some of the other pieces of items,
some of the stuff they saw in those images and
videos, so they can come and find those.
And we're told they did find some of what they were looking
for. But, you know, the road is back open.
We know neighbors, they say it's been a lot, especially
with the reason as to why this investigation
is happening in the first place. A lot of people
have been disturbed the last few months
because this investigation all launched back in June
when Hirschman was first arrested.
So he was arrested down in Old City initially. It was a
traffic stop and we were told that when he
was arrested they found drugs, a fake DEA badge as
well as weapons.
So he is now facing federal charges as a result for that.
But you know this
is going to be still a very long and ongoing investigation here.
And some of the missing
women have been identified.
Our photojournalist, Mark LaValle, if he could show the picture that
is there on the window.
We've been told the family of Gabriella Morando, who has been missing,
they actually left her picture right there with her dog.
Obviously, these families have been
searching for their loved ones.
So this is a case that investigators definitely are not taking
lightly at all. So very heartbreaking for those families,
disturbing for this community, and also
the inconvenience of having this road closed for days on end.
But we can tell you that heavy
machinery that was used to sift through the dirt in the backyard,
some of the other machinery that
was needed to do that painstaking work,
as well as all of the crews from the FBI and Philadelphia
police are now gone uh wrapped up this portion of the investigation
but again it's going to be a
lengthy one and we'll continue to stay in touch with authorities
and bring you the latest information
when we get it all right Jen Lee on the scene
for us Jen thank you yeah Jennifer had mentioned
the pictures a lot of loved ones believe
that you know may have been the last place their loved ones
may have been before their demise
and they want the prosecutor they want the investigators to
know who they're helping, absolutely
who they're looking for who they're trying to get some answers about
and this is why we've seen
a multi-agency effort Jennifer Lee had mentioned and once again we've
seen a series of not only the excavating they
also had luminol to look for any potential blood inside
the home as well this is uh certainly going
to be an active investigation and the big question
what happened to those women of course they were seen
on the digital evidence which is leading them
to believe that these women may have been killed inside the home.
There's about a million different
pieces of digital evidence
and they've gone through about 40% of the evidence so far.
So when we say they're far from over,
they're certainly far from over. If they need to get
back to the scene to do more excavating,
more additional additional work on site,
they certainly will. But as Jennifer mentioned,
it's been kind of a whirlwind for neighbors.
A lot of the roadway has been shut down
as they bring in that equipment you saw.
they must have seen something on that digital evidence
because as you know police officers do
not reveal their hand they don't want
to give any evidence out early the fact that they're saying
that they've seen something you have to wonder what
that is all right well certainly uh we're
staying on top of this case Jennifer Lee on the scene for us
and she'll have more live at four
we're going to take a quick little break
as we head back outside we'll also update
